They must be triple-gened. This will be your founder. [*] Find this dragon a mate. The first mate must be similarly ugly; following mates do not have to ascribe to this rule, but must be below 10kt/g in the AH. Optionally, you may use one "freebie" mate who is self-bred fodder rather than AH fodder. (No Scrying Workshop is allowed to help decide—only once you’ve locked in their mate.) [*] [b]Both founders and all subsequent mates must have koi tertiary.[/b] [*] When they're ready, breed them together. You may cherry pick the heir you prefer. [*] Find a mate for your heir much like you did for your founder in #2. Repeat as many times as it takes to get a dragon you would permanently keep [i]without gene/breed changes[/i]. She's the least aesthetic of the trio, but her siblings both got lionfish, which I'm not generally a fan of (even though the youngest wears it surprisingly well).

(I'm going ahead to use my freebie of a self-bred fodder mate because the prospective mate I got off AH has a longer breeding cooldown and I am impatient lol) It's probably a good time to talk about my mate selection process & eventual goals. For my [url=https://www1.flightrising.com/forums/qnc/3313074]first Breed Out the Ugly challenge[/url], I had fairly specific criteria: for the tert, my project hatchlings had runes, which I like in bright colors. So I would search for mates with cyan-robin-aqua terts (either runes or a gem tert that would probably not pass, but it would be cool if it did) and dark blue-purple range primaries that would look good with it. Koi is super wild though! I don't have any particular target color ranges in mind. For now, I'm just going to freestyle by selecting good-looking mates and hope it rubs off on the hatchlings. [size=5][b]Generation 2[/b][/size] @pinglist-30743 New hatchlings! A colorful trio. They really don't look like siblings at all. The firstborn is rocking the Halloween look, featuring eldritch & steel, my two favorite greens that aren't in the green range. [size=5][b]Generation 2[/b][/size] @pinglist-30743 Hatchlings are grown, so it's decision time! I've been debating what to do about the middle child, [b]Ziminiar[/b], because he's [i]almost[/i] very good. I don't like how flat his mane is with saturn. Foam would make it not flat, and would better match his primary AND his scene. I could also throw in uncommon eyes. Per the rules, gene changes aren't allowed for project purposes...so I think I'm going to make him the heir, breed him, then when he retires from heirship I can mod him freely. Here's his mate, [b]Sundrop[/b]! After spending a bunch of time on AH looking for fodder kois, I've refined my mate selection criteria: - No pie/paint. I feel like this is easy mode for koi matching and not really in the spirit of a challenge. Also, the genes are common rarity, so if I ever get on that carousel it's going to be difficult to get off. - No obs/obs/x. It is a nice look, but it feels too basic, idk. Gotta have zany colorful mates to produce zany colorful hatchlings (I know this is not how the color wheel actually works).
