She sits in a comfy patch of soft grass and watches the crowds weave in and out, catching the briefest snippets of out-of-context conversation as she does so. There are so many dragons around, many that she recognizes and many she doesn't. Either way, if they cross her path, she greets them with a smile and a nod while wishing them a happy festival. It's been quite the long time since she's been so social to someone other than her clan or her birds. A breeze tickles her cheek and she lets out a laugh that is whisked away immediately by a decently powerful gust. Her birds chitter their own excitement at the sudden uptake and flutter back to the clover and grass with practiced grace. She feels so at home here.

They're not traditional Wind flight colours, and (being a rather old triple himself) Minty is a bit of a traditionalist, but even he can admit that there really is no wrong way to wear silks. Perhaps if he's ever feeling spicy, he'll mix it up a little. But for now, his tried-and-true Wind Rep outfit is his year-round go-to.

Here, dragons who need a little break from the festivities can come and sit down to eat, have a conversation, or simply enjoy the view from the huge bay windows. It seems like all of Sornieth is laid out below. The Zephyr Steppes stretch out in every direction, with the Sea of a Thousand Currents just visible on the horizon. Dragons of all kinds are constantly flying around the Cloudsong: coming, going, or simply playing in the howling gale that fills its sails. Inside, however, it is peaceful. Only a gentle puff of air, perfumed with floral scents, stirs the observation deck. It announces the presence of a skydancer. She stands on her hind legs, wooden pipeflute in hand. Wind chimes hang from her outstretched wings. Flower petals constantly fall around her. She smiles, causing another breeze that makes the petals swirl everywhere and sets her chimes ringing. She plays a simple tune on the pipes to accompany the bells. The song is slow and meandering, mixing easily with the ringing of the chimes. Sometimes the melody is easy to identify, sometimes it seems as random as the notes hit by the jingling chimes. But somehow it always harmonizes perfectly, and is pleasant to listen to. The refreshing breeze continues to blow, keeping the air sweet and the wind chimes in motion. The skydancer stands almost perfectly still, only moving to play her pipes. It is quite a change from most of the other music that can be found in the party, which ranges from merry to downright frenetic. Hers is tranquil and meditative, casting a spell of serenity over the entire area. After some time, the last note trails off, and the skydancer smiles softly. "I hope you enjoyed my performance," she says. "I will play again after a break. In the meantime, feel free to try the refreshments in this area." She gestures to a table loaded with food. He’d observed how appreciative the visiting public had been when he’d strolled about the Mistral Jamboree in years past just enjoying the sights and sounds himself. Since he’d always gotten a good reception at home when he sang, he had no reason to think those festival-goers wouldn’t also appreciate what he had to offer, and he was determined to set up in a spot that would see plenty of traffic. He’d noted a crowd a little way off, listening to a story, it seemed - he was a little too far to catch the words clearly, but it seemed to be about something dramatic that occurred on the Windswept Plateau. Soon there was a clatter and sounds from the mob that suggested that that performance was over, so he quickly finished spreading out his blanket, with a Canorous Cap upturned upon it (and a few coins to give folks the idea) as they dispersed. He raised his wings dramatically, looked one unsuspecting dragon straight in the eye, and launched into a lively sea chanty, that, if you were an adult in the know, was mildly … “suggestive.” He could tell from the smiles and nudges that they were getting it! Once he had their attention, he offered to take requests, and the time melted away for him. When he finally had to take a break to refill his drink and get a bite to eat, he was almost surprised to see all the coin thrown his way. Even some gems! It made him want to stop and work on the romantic ballad he hadn’t quite finished, so he could try it out the next day. He hoped he could find an equally advantageous spot in the morning.

This more laid back, peaceful atmosphere is much preferred over the hectic crowd. From this vantage point, she is also able to keep an eye on her king and queen, in case anything happens. She casts a lazy eye over the festivities, watching children run and play, and other dragons enjoying the food. Her own claw twitches toward her drink, and she takes a sip. Refreshing! Ice cold, with the slight burn of rum. She twirls the little umbrella that is inside and smiles to herself. The soft music starts up again as the skydancer has finished her break. Such a soothing sound... Proxima can't help but feel grateful that she has survived all that she has, and that she was able to attend. Sometimes her life is a struggle, but it's moments like these that make it all worth it. Seeing the royal children laugh and spend time together, she promises to herself to continue fighting in order to protect these moments for them as well.

She greets the occasional passing dragon, renewing old acquaintances, and smiles at the yapping corgies out on the lawn. A little green nocturne runs up, slaps a freshly folded paper crane on the table before her and then scrambles off to his next adventure. She cups her claws in salute to the bowing performer, and sighs. Its nice to be back in Wind country.

However, even the Wind Spirit found it nice to just, hang back and lie down every once in a while, listening to the breeze, the music, and the good-natured chatter of dragons. They did admittedly miss the Obelisk that was trotting about, but it wasn't too big of a deal; they can come by the next Cloudsong Celebration! Eventually however, the knack of playful winds at their haunches urged them to wake up once more, shake off their sleepiness, and explore the rest of the Cloudsong. Practically flowing like wind over the crowds and weaving about passing airborne dragons, they found another such resting corner as a room, this time larger, with even a table of food and Skydancer who played a calming tune from her pipeflute, mixed with the chimes of her wings; a lovely combination that the Aether couldn't help but be invited by. Catching the Skydancer on her break with compliments to her music and skills, they made conversation for a while, talking about how well the festival has been going, the good atmosphere, and the history of the Cloudsong Celebration, exchanging facts and banter. Eventually, the talking came to a close, but not before the Skydancer handed Zephyr a gift "for being such a lovely dragon." The Aether couldn't help but jitter with glee. Waving goodbyes with promises of meeting back up with time, Zephyr grabbed a few bites to eat from the table, before continuing to travel all the way to the part of the cloudsong they were curious about: the very last platform of the whole structure. Compared to the hustle and bustle of the larger sections on the main body of the craft, with the stalls, giftshops, bards, and good eating, it was quiet, with few dragons to be seen either taking a breather enjoy the tranquility, or just were there because they were also exploring. A bamboo rail was on the rim of the last platform, which had no trouble bearing weight for those who liked to lean on things; even Imperials were held well. Taking a moment to saunter over and rest their arms on the railing, Zephyr took the deep breath of the fresh, clean air, and looked out to the scenery; one could very easily see the Reedcleft Ascent, the border of the Scarred Wasteland, and even the faint outline of the glimmering trees of the Starwood Strand. Despite the hardships of the flights, it was beautiful, seeing how they have adapted, and keep adapting, to live in this world. That, coupled with the beautiful music emanating from the the pretty Skydancer in the corner, did the trick--though it might also have been the fact that Oberon was carefully NOT looking at the Skydancer in question, and forcing himself to put all his focus on his equally beautiful mate. Whatever the reason, Titania was soon nibbling at several delicacies from the nearby Dessert Table while debating without heat about the merits of using flower petals and swirling leaves to accent one’s Wind Magic. As the debate continued, Oberon found himself being more drawn in almost despite himself. Being that the Twisting Crescendo underneath them had a number of such natural accoutrements within it, the seemingly random topic did, in fact, make some sense, and Weather Magic WAS one of his main passions. Leaning forward to make his point, he ran his paw almost absently over the Hornworm Viperpillar that had sidled up to him some time ago, tugging some rather fascinating silks along with him. Apparently, that strange Obelisk dragon had actually had more “treats” in his bag of tricks than a Molasses Stick, and Oberon had been in such a hurry to hide Lifeanth from Titania that he had completely missed the real gift -- which, come to think of it, might be the real reason his lovely mate had been so disgruntled when she arrived. After all, she loved silks just as much as he did… Hmmm…Now there was an idea… “Titania, love,” Oberon said, breaking into Titania’s latest point -- this one about the strength required to keep Weather Magic going within an already strong current -- "I have a gift for you, straight from the Cloudsong.” He held out the bundle of Nebula Silks with a winning smile and was rewarded almost instantly by the light sparkling in his mate’s eyes. Abruptly ending her argument, the female Fae reached out quickly for the bundle, her paws almost trembling. “Oh, Oberon, they’re beautiful!” Running her paws down the silks, in much the same manner her mate had touched the new familiar, Titania smiled widely…and then lunged forward and grabbed Oberon’s paw. “Come on! I saw an area where I can change over there….I want you to see!” Tugging firmly on her startled mate, the female Fae dragged Oberon away from the corner and any chance of his catching another glimpse of Lifeanth, let alone a chance to sneak way and chat with her. It was almost as if Titania knew what he had been up to--but she couldn’t truly suspect anything, could she? Suddenly, Oberon did not feel nearly as confident, or relieved, as he had a few minutes ago…[/columns] As Titania tugged her reluctant mate away from the area still containing a very familiar female Fae, other dragons went about their own pursuits at this weeklong celebration, without any idea how narrowly they might have avoided a rather entertaining display of Weather Magic INSIDE the Cloudsong. Or at least, MOST of them were unaware…. Athena Air Mage and Scholar (Fire Born, Arcane Adopted) Settling back into the seat she had half-risen from, the striking blue Pearlcatcher turned her attention back to the beautiful music that had just started up again, played by that very intriguing female Skydancer. The danger was past, for the moment. Of course, things could change in an instant with those two, but for now Titania was content, and Oberon was…contained. Athena smiled wryly at the thought. The old flirt really should have known better than to try to bribe his mate…but at least Titania had remembered her promise to the Clan Mother and had NOT blasted the silks--or Oberon--with magic. In fact, the older Wind Mage thought in amusement, Titania’s revenge was quite appropriate. After all, her wandering mate HAD been enjoying himself watching female dragons. So now he could watch Titania instead, while she modeled the silks Oberon himself had given her. And Athena was quite certain that Titania was going to take hours at this new hobby, carefully arranging and rearranging each strand, exploring all the different ways they could be worn….yes, Oberon was going to be kept distracted for quite a long time indeed… Laughing aloud, Athena lifted her glass to her Clanmate’s ingenuity before she turned back to the stage nearby where that delightful Skydancer had just begun another set of songs. The female Pearlcatcher leaned back and closed her eyes, humming softly as the music washed over her. It was rare indeed that Athena got to enjoy watching a Master at her work -- and she was NOT talking about the beautiful melodies emanating from those pipes. She continued to hum, lending her own soft counterpoint to the music in question, as certain other senses observed the real show, one that would only be truly visible to another Master, even if the consequences of it could be felt by everyone. Around her, the gentle wind currents continued to drift and spiral, touching the Skydancer Musician and the pipes, then heading out to touch the gathered crowd, subtly drawing everyone in further towards the corner where Skydancer sat. And as they drifted, they glowed with the power that had been used to conjure and control them, for those who could "see" it. Athena smiled. A Master indeed. This Skydancer had command of every wind current in the area, manipulating them all with seeming ease. But as the old Mage knew, nothing was ever that easy. The skill to be able to perform this kind of feat, let alone do it flawlessly and easily, was phenomenal, and the oldest Air Mage of the Elemental Gems Clan was honored that she had had a chance to witness it. Even if she ended up needing to break up a fight between two certain Faes down the line, this hour of pleasurable observance was well worth that price. Lifting her glass in a much higher toast than what she had offered before, the enraptured Mage sat back to enjoy the very great pleasure of watching a true Master work her magic, both musical and otherwise, upon everyone within hearing distance. For now, at least, everything was peaceful, and Athena was going to take full advantage of that tranquility for however long it lasted…

After all, she loved silks just as much as he did…

Hmmm…Now there was an idea…

“Titania, love,” Oberon said, breaking into Titania’s latest point -- this one about the strength required to keep Weather Magic going within an already strong current -- "I have a gift for you, straight from the Cloudsong.” He held out the bundle of Nebula Silks with a winning smile and was rewarded almost instantly by the light sparkling in his mate’s eyes.

“Come on! I saw an area where I can change over there….I want you to see!”

Tugging firmly on her startled mate, the female Fae dragged Oberon away from the corner and any chance of his catching another glimpse of Lifeanth, let alone a chance to sneak way and chat with her. It was almost as if Titania knew what he had been up to--but she couldn’t truly suspect anything, could she?

Suddenly, Oberon did not feel nearly as confident, or relieved, as he had a few minutes ago…

As Titania tugged her reluctant mate away from the area still containing a very familiar female Fae, other dragons went about their own pursuits at this weeklong celebration, without any idea how narrowly they might have avoided a rather entertaining display of Weather Magic INSIDE the Cloudsong. Or at least, MOST of them were unaware….

Athena
Air Mage and Scholar
(Fire Born,
Arcane Adopted)

Settling back into the seat she had half-risen from, the striking blue Pearlcatcher turned her attention back to the beautiful music that had just started up again, played by that very intriguing female Skydancer.

And Athena was quite certain that Titania was going to take hours at this new hobby, carefully arranging and rearranging each strand, exploring all the different ways they could be worn….yes, Oberon was going to be kept distracted for quite a long time indeed…

Laughing aloud, Athena lifted her glass to her Clanmate’s ingenuity before she turned back to the stage nearby where that delightful Skydancer had just begun another set of songs.
