TOPIC | Open! Necromancer Eye Lore Contests
1 2 3 4 5 6
It isn't uncommon for the eyes of a fledgling Necromancer to become infected during the trial of survival. Such an infection may arise from the plague the dragon is facing. The eyes can swell and rarely burst, and often become overly teary to complensate. Sometimes, once and Necromancer or Servus completes their trials, the eyes never quite return to their initial state, staying large and giving them an almost baby-like look.

The swollen eyes may be a bit uncomfortable in the eye sockets, but it's nothing a Mancer can't get rid of. Besides, these giant eyes come with benefits, they aren't just a show for "extra suffering". In addition to improved sight, an innocent eyed Necro may be more acutely manipulative of disease, allowing for pinpoint and localized infections. These dragons make excellent healers of internal wounds, and are often capable of killing off individual cancer cells. On the opposite end of the spectrum, they also make excellent assassins; the most powerful innocent Necros can stop a heart from beating.

Failing the trials with swollen eyes creates a myriad of new problems. For a Ghoul, these eyes spell disaster. Their abilities uncontrolled, "acute manipulation" simply becomes "more destruction". Disease radiates from the innocent Ghoul at a much higher rate than any other, infecting everything in the vicinity all the way to the deepest recesses of life within. They could cause a great tree to shrivel and die in a matter of minutes, just by leaning on it. Furthermore, the teariness of the large eyes stays with the Ghoul until death, and (as any other Ghoulish bodily fluid) are ridden with disease, and they never stop falling, leaving a trail of death wherever they walk.

Innocent eyes, the eyes of those with otherworldly charm and knowledge. It is rumored that innocent eyed dragons are not what they seem. It is even whispered very quietly that these dragons have been replaced by something that looks like a dragon but isn't. Something other.

In general dragons who return from the trials with innocent eyes always seem wise beyond expectations. They know more than they should. They are charismatic and gain support easily, though if they see the supporters around them as friends or tools depends on the dragons.

Innocent eyed ghouls seem almost phantasmal. They move slowly, bodies clearly diseased, but with grace in each step. If they are in pain they don't seem to show it. Their ruined voices are honey sweet and gentle.

Something wise and otherworldly looks out from their shining eyes. It could be the Mother, peering out through a puppet of flesh. It could be a disease with wisps of the Shade twined into it. It could be something from another world entirely. It could be just a trick of the light.

Necromancers with innocent eyes. Doesn't seem like a possibility, does it? These creatures are far too horrific and dangerous to harbor innocent eyes. Yet, there are some who have figured out the uses, the tricks.
Any dragon who came back successful from their trial never had innocent eyes. Until one fateful day, when a twitching Necromancer came to the realization that with innocent eyes, it could trick dragons. Trick them how? Well, perhaps the dragon could lure its victim with those big, curious eyes. But being so unsightly, this was an unlikely possibility. Still, maybe it could instill trust upon those who don't trust easily...
The Necromancer came out of the trials with a feeling of intelligence, as if it'd soaked up all the knowledge there was to know in the world.
That Necromancer was highly looked up to and respected, and it wasn't long before others attempted to copy it.
Many of these dragons that tried were failed attempts. Ghouls. Looked down upon and shunned. These dragons, though exiled, knew that with their soft, glowing eyes, they could thrive.
The Ghouls went on a spree, infecting those who couldn't bear to ignore those big, round eyes, even if the dragon they belonged to was a beast.

The innocent eyes came upon suddenly, and through the knowledge of a successful Necro. But the innocent eyes are more commonly found upon those failed attempts, those ghouls that still continue to infect the vulnerable.

Innocent Eyes

There are those who say that innocent eyes mean an innocence and a childishness. There are those who say that it disguises malice, that it hides a true viciousness. These beliefs are both true and false at once.

Those with Innocent Eyes are often naive, with a childishness of vision and a tendency to see things simply - directly, even, in much the way that a child might. This does not make them any more or less malicious, kindly, callous or empathetic, simply that they act as they see fit in the moment, often impulsively, and cut through problems to their heart - though not, necessarily, without causing further problems in the doing so.

While in many of the subspecies this is not so much a problem - a Wraith, Neutralised Ghoul or Necroservus is usually bound in some kind of service, while any Necromancer worth their salt has the sense and power to undo the problems they make - in Ghouls it is another issue entirely. Often wild and feral or, if not, at the very least uncontained, an Innocent-Eyed Ghoul may unleash a plague of pandemic proportions in a moment of fear for their life, or may mutate a cure from one of their plagues that could go so far as to sever even a Necromancer's mastery of the diseases they bear.

In this way, a Ghoul with innocent eyes can be far more dangerous - and far less innocent - than they first appear.

Innocence? That a word that can truly associated to Necromancer's, not truly. To inflict illness and to take it away is the goal. To inflict suffering or to take it away, not without payment of course.

Innocent eyes tell crude lies,
in the face of those too blind to see.
If you look deep downside,
deceit festers in their eyes.

The innocent eye of a ghoul,
can hold a bit more truth.
They know the lies of their brethren,
if not helped by them,
they die.

Their innocent eyes a reminder,
of the failure they must be.
Pain and betrayal,
in their eyes.

Someday may they cry and weep.

Innocent Eye Lore! For Innocent eyed individuals some symptoms of the second Trial linger past the 23rd day. Developing during the Trial of Survival, Innocent eyes are the visible symptom of a special strain of Mother’s Plague that attacks the optic nerve. In affected dragons, excess tears are produced - the fluid viscous and cloudy - giving the eye a magnified appearance with a watery sheen. Left untreated, the membrane of the eye becomes inflamed and begins to deteriorate, eventually leading to blindness. This is quite different from what is known as Innocent eyes outside of the Trials, which in most cases is simply large eyes. Innocent eyes as it applies to the variants is most common in Ghouls and the disease is expressed in them to the most devasting effect. Already deadly, Innocent eyed Ghouls become devastating, their Plague literally dripping from them with their tears. Protecting yourself from an Innocent eyed Ghoul is effectively impossible. Curiously, Necromancers and Servus with Innocent eyes almost universally resist or outright refuse treatment. They give a range of excuses, from ‘the tears feel right, they are a gift from Mother as much as my stripes,’ to ‘they are a symbol of Mother’s virulency, found in me just as much as in Her most dangerous Ghouls.’ All variants can recall the exact moment that they contracted the disease, as if it were tied to a sudden epiphany or revelation. Are these dragons privy to secrete truths or hidden knowledge? Why do they resist treatment so vehemently, desperate to keep their eyes even unto blindness? If these questions have answers, the Innocent eyed dragon seems determined to keep its secrets. ------------- We had so many creative entries!
