She had her freedom as she had always wanted, but there had been no survivors from the clan she had been promised to. The victory was never one at all, simply taken from dragons she had never met by dragons she had killed to avenge them. It revolted her with guilty happiness. It was in memory of the clan which had almost been hers that she built a new one on the mountains towering above the ruined lairs. Clan Maserift was founded by Thousand Current imperials and Starfall mercenaries. Magic and knowledge would always be their highest priorities. Next time, they would see their enemies coming and be prepared. To the south was a wedge of the Tangled Wood. More to the west was the Scarred Wasteland. The Pillar of the World loomed in the north, casting a dark, clockwork hand that swept over Dragonhome. But at the heart of their home, there was a subterranean freshwater sea. There, she would build her scrying pools and whisper prayers to her god. If those prayers were unheard, then perhaps it was for the best that the earth swallow them up. The Earthshaker was kind. But Adhara mourned the labyrinth of libraries she had grown up in and the humming of thousands of mages working in tandem. Relative peace. Relative safety. They could do better than that, she believed, and that conviction already caused a ripple of the future to stretch out before her. Mage colleges, libraries, hoards of countless artifacts preserved and understood. Hatchlings, a whisper passed by her, and she thought of the young, bright lives yet to be made and how they would all converge upon the world. She would never bear any herself but those trails of future shadows stretched long into the distance like the pinpricks of a star. With this promise, she carefully shuttered away the oily knowledge of coming tragedies and chose to cage herself in hope instead. For now, she faced the horde of strange dragons who had found their way to her, ignoring the slivers of futures that baldly stared back in the twilight. The scent that swept across the mountain was thin and sweet as she breathed. "Welcome to Clan Maserift. Few of us stay for very long but you're welcome to rest here as much as you need."

The clan had been created purely by chance. Their long-bygone leaders, the founders of their clan, had interacted at length without ever knowing one another. The grain colored Buckwheat tended to his fields, his charge and purpose. Thistledowne, his eventual mate, often hid among the tall, edible grasses, laughing and playing and keeping out of sight. Despite the clashing philosophies —one preferring to remain grounded and grow slowly over time, the other free and flinging themselves to the mercy of the breeze leaving their lives to fate— the two dragons grew close, and became parents before ever becoming mates. Many of the clans first children were orphaned hatchlings that knew no other home. They accepted anyone and everyone to their home, so long as they caused no harm and helped out the clan on occasion. Even those that didn’t officially join were permitted to stay within their territory so long as they didn’t hurt anyone. In this way, they’d soon gathered a great many dragons of all kinds, with a broad range of talents. After the leaders hatched a single egg, the hatchling grew among the others the couple had adopted, none treated any differently from the other. By the time their children had grown, the son they’d hatched decided it was time to head out on his Guardian journey, and in ignoring his parents protests, accidentally baited them to chase after him in worry, and none were seen again. Despite the discord the clan was thrown into, they picked up the pieces, doing their best to look after one another, as they’d been raised too. Those newer to the clan were told the story, and were introduced to the stronger dragons of the clan. Despite the fact that none of these proud warriors, kind healers, and powerful mages were explicitly in charge, you knew to watch your step and keep from making (too much) trouble. Steven had been born some time after all this, and was used to the everyday chaos of his clan and smaller groups that made it up. He was willing to help anyone that came his way, but those that knew him well enough knew not to tick him off or mess with those he was loyal too. His kindness was a shroud by no means, but he could very easily hold his own in a fight. Alongside his sweetheart Jacq, a spirit of Autumn and the Pumpkin Queen, their enclave, the Clan of Ordered Chaos, was one to be reckoned with and depended upon, forevermore into the future, carried on by it’s children and children’s children in the years to come.

The coatl craned his neck as he looked up at the imposing stone structure. He sighed and removed his goggles to clean them before repositioning them over his pale eyes - one blinded and scarred, the other trained on the massive fortress in front of him, focusing on yet another decision he had to make. It hadn't always been this complicated. The island of Prufrock was built on simple dreams - the founder Emrys' dream of a vast library, and Eztli's own dream of a coatl colony, intertwined by the hope that like-minded dragons would join them in scholarship and companionship. Hopes and the best of intentions weren't always enough, however. There had been problems and perils, attacks and evacuations. Even though the veil was as stable as it ever was, there still remained the fact that the island was situated at a weak point along the divide between the spirit and material realms. No matter how prepared they were, no matter how stalwart and skilled their defenders, there was always the risk of danger. And so the clan leader had turned to their northern allies, seeking the safety and security of Dragonhome. Prufrock's large population of Earth dragons had migrated mainly from Oakrest and Maserift, and there had long been comings and goings between the clans. She was there by the wishes of a few of her clan mates who had travel from Oakrest and the Clan Maserift itself. Once The Clan of Fallen Stars received a formal invitation, it was enough to budge the young guardian into meeting them in person. It wasn't often that The Fallen Stars received a formal invite to anything. This meeting was to set up an out post for several different clans all alike in some way. They all carried bloodlines from one another and perhaps bringing them together in some way wasn't such a bad idea. Especially when new bonds could be forged. The scent of ink and parchment and coffee greet you, accompanied by the sound of hammers and chisels and the musical hum of magic. Distracted, you nearly bump into two coatl dragons who seemingly appear out of nowhere. "Ah, my apologies," the purple and jade coatl on the right says soothingly, shaking dust off his long black cloak. He radiates regality and arcane power, and yet you sense a layer of fragility, of wariness and weariness. After appraising you quickly, his pink eyes dance in the direction of the other coatl, and his lips quirk in a smile as he regards his companion. "We were exploring the hidden passageways and seem to have come out somewhere unexpected." "Not entirely unexpected," the other corrects. A blue tongue flicks out unconsciously as he makes a notation on an elaborate map. From him you sense a youthful joy and wonder at the unknown and unexplored. "Would that I had your sense of direction," the purple coatl chuckles before collecting himself and returning his attention to you. "Please forgive us for not welcoming you sooner. I am Vespers, one of the leaders of the island of Prufrock in the Starfall Isles." He reaches out his tail and entwines it with his companion's. "This is my mate Sootshadow, who as an Earth dragon is more familiar with these lands than I. We are overseeing preparations and weren't really anticipating guests, but you are welcome to stay as long as you would like." The pair guides you further down the hallway into a right and proper mess. Tables are covered with half-completed architectural plans and maps and half-drunk mugs of coffee. There are shelves for books, but most of them are lying on the ground. You see runes etched and chiseled into every surface not cluttered with paper, and you feel safe, like nothing could get you here. On one wall you see a painting of an island with a large pink stone spire jutting out of its center. Vespers notes your gaze. "Home," he explains, then looks around. "And one day this might be a home away from home, should it be needed." He sighs wistfully. "Of course, not everyone hatched on Prufrock wants to stay there. I call it home, but others who have traveled to this place have expressed interest in living elsewhere. Dressed beautifully, knowing how to carry herself in this well mannered and highly esteemed palace. "Hello dear." she smiles sweetly, holding the door open for you as you enter the hall. Once standing inside you see several hatchlings either sat around the center tabel working on somehting, talking or off else where entertaining themselves. There are also a few more mature dragons in the area which occasionally glance back at your form. "Fear not, all these kids have been raised to be able to fend for themselves for the most part. A few are more rowdy than others, but shouldn't cause you and trouble." the pearlcatcher states as she walks along side you then past as she sits at her desk. He radiates regality and arcane power, and yet you sense a layer of fragility, of wariness and weariness. After appraising you quickly, his pink eyes dance in the direction of the other coatl, and his lips quirk in a smile as he regards his companion. "We were exploring the hidden passageways and seem to have come out somewhere unexpected."

"Not entirely unexpected," the other corrects.

We are overseeing preparations and weren't really anticipating guests, but you are welcome to stay as long as you would like."

The pair guides you further down the hallway into a right and proper mess. Is your clan perhaps looking for new recruits?"
Rules: Prufrock wrote:
+ The gem to treasure ratio is 1g to 1000T. Fees are negotiable.
+ All dragons leave Prufrock with a name and a story, though they often change one or both to reflect the customs of their new home.
+ Due to the clan's location along an unstable veil between the material and spirit realms, nesting is not undertaken lightly. If a hatchling is desired from any of the clan's pairs, please quote or PM Salathielly to put in a nest request. The requester will be messaged with the resulting hatchlings and can adopt any of the hatchlings provided they respond within five days; they can also request the direction of the lore of any hatchling they adopt. Remaining nest mates will be posted here.
+ Ask to be put on pinglists, but if you want a hatchling from a certain pair, please contact Salathielly directly to put in a nest request.

As you approach the doors leading to The Fallen Stars' hall you see a female pearlcatcher.

The plaque on top of which reads 'Cassiopeia'.

"Please, look around. You might find your soulmate here...or something." Cassi smiles again, excited to see the young of her clan and some of her fellow clan mates off on their next adventure.

She named herself defecting from her homeland, the Mariawa Empire, where tradition dictates that only the firstborn of each nest have a name. Having sworn never to have children herself, the name is now carried on by her adopted son, Melchior. Over time, the name has been adopted by Melchior's blood relatives, descendants of his mother Shula. Two dragons around whom time seems to waver, their children have a habit of mysteriously appearing one day in different clans, completely out of the blue. There is always conflicting reports of how and how long they had been there but their presence is often felt as worryingly natural, like they had always been there.
One moment, they can be spouting off a disturbing premonition only to dismiss it the very next as having passed its time frame.

Oh. Oh dear. This is not a family so much as a war zone. Make no mistake, this pair of royal imperials despise each other. It isn't even that this is a political match. Cassandra's agenda, hidden to most in the clan, is simply one of destruction. She seeks to bring blight upon all she encounters, seeing it as a blessing from her goddess and the truest form of salvation. All hatchlings from her are born under the expectation that they one day return with her to her sire, Broodfather Dilabre, progenitor of the Bloody Flux and voice of the Plaguebringer. Prince Nestor, her rival and sometimes mate, is perhaps the only one who truly understands her -and that is why he is the one who most desires to bring her plans to ruin. Their wars are waged in secret and political dances. Their children learn to follow one or the other, or perhaps none at all.

Children of this pair learn how to be highly sarcastic out of necessity. With parents who are both clergy to different gods, lively but mostly cordial arguments are a given. Quote:
Rival mages are the progenitors of the Ambrosius-Daskalov family, however one-sided that rivalry may be. The skydancer Nusakan Daskalov serves as Clan Maserift's Interior Minister and Chancellor Adhara's second in command. A calm, bookish mage with a jack-of-all-trades repertoire of arcane skill, his descendants have a tendency to more organized and ritualistic magic. Meanwhile, the ridgeback Rastaban Ambrosius serves as the clan's head researcher. Arrogant and ambitious, his line contains many unconventional but skilled mages. His is the side where most of the rivalry comes from. Though their lines have now been joined, the two families are often on uncertain ground with each other as Rastaban continues to conspire to be more important and recognized than his compatriot.

Two mages in close proximity either leads to many fires or harmony. It's the latter in this case. Both have a tendency to be absent-minded, which allows their hatchlings many opportunities to go in pursuit of their curiosities. They almost always end up as mages themselves and therefore end up in their father's magic classes or under their mother's guidance to learn how to identify spells and enchantments.

This is what happens when an arrogant mage falls for a normal gardener with no magical abilities. He admires her competence, she respects his passion. Their children are therefore practically forced to have one or both of those traits. Germaine is the milder and more attentive parent of the two but surprisingly enough, Rastaban is fairly present himself, feeling it his duty to make sure that his progeny leave the clan as confident, skilled individuals. Being lazy is fine. Being weak is fine. But being stupid? That is unforgivable.

They are skilled in sealing their spells into charms and talismans for later use and often found hard at work among their tomes and rituals. It is not uncommon for some hatchlings to turn to their grandfather Nusakan for guidance in more conventional types of magic.

4th Generation: Bramrich + Midrin
Quote:
Descended from both Nusakan and Rastaban, hatchlings of this pair have been known to display un-paralleled genius across all fields of magic. With the full support of two mage families, most hatchlings spend every waking moment of their lives immersed in the arcane. This pair themselves are friendly and welcoming towards outsiders, freely allowing different ideas to stew together under their household.

5th Generation: Sincere + Theresia
Quote:
This pair of dragons is as thick as a pair of thieves, partially because they are. With a wise-cracking, streetwise father and a sweet-talking mother, hatchlings from this pair are raised with silver tongues and all the ethics of the street. With a knack for lockpicking and thievery, it's hard to keep anything restricted from them.

34840423.png34910589.png
5th Generation: Reinhold + Sigilind
Quote:
The mumbled chants of rituals are like lullabies to this family. With an affinity for dark and growing things, these dragons tend to secret orchards deep within the clan. Knowledgeable of all types of plants, from common daisies to those capable of surviving the most extreme climates of each elemental territory, children of this pair often go on to sow their favorite seeds in different lands. They operate under the cover of darkness, leaving no trace of their presence save for new green growth.

33689008.png33396938.png
5th Generation: Dusk + Morningsong
Quote:
Free souls at heart, these dragons find joy in roaming the rocky expanse of Dragonhome, searching for treasures to add to their hoard. Children of this pair are more at home exploring tombs than among books, a rarity in their lineage. Nonetheless most are hatched well away from the clan, on whatever adventure their parents had deigned to take at the time. They are collectors of all sorts, from mundane items like stones to more exotic items like souls. Bad things happen to those who come between these dragons and their collections.

34538197.png34511656.png
6th Generation: Copernicus + Seondeok
Quote:
Affiliated with light, these dragons welcome dawn and dusk with complex spells meant to harness the power of the sun and stars. All hatchlings grow up knowing how to read the exact time of day by the position of the sun; star maps are memorized at an early age.

Halloran Family
XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
Quote:
The Halloran Family was founded by Chancellor Adhara after the founding of Clan Maserift. That is a name that many Hallorans grow up knowing, associated with a sickly fire enchantress who died among her bees. Melchior's was the last nest she ever had. Her descendants, however, are numerous among certain clans and have a tendency to congregate together.

Aden + Apera
Quote:
An engineer and expert tunnel-maker, Aden met the lovely Imperial one day in the woods while out foraging for his clan. The more conservative spirit and protector of those woods, Apera wasn’t sure what to make of the Ridgeback, leading him away again and again, but he continually returned. Children of this pair tend to be excellent at defense and navigating the woods, creating elaborate underground structures and tunnels, and have some level of awareness of spirits.

Akhirah + Renae
Quote:
The coroner was once asked for assistance by the younger historian, having found the skeleton of a dragon during one of her digging sprees. He helped her identify how the poor soul had passed on, and they gave them a proper burial once more. Finding they’re paths kept crossing, they slowly got to know one another more. Children of this pair are very aware of spirits, and often plagued by them. Some utilize this inherent ability to calm the dead or combat it, many are scholars.

31232284.png31325324.png
Crescendo + Solaris
Quote:
Two hunters of demons and malevolent spirits, the two met when Solaris journeyed to Crescendo’s clan, intent to protect those innocents who were plagued by the darkness. She was surprised by his quiet affections, and grew to love him in turn. They’re children are sensitive to the realm of spirits, malicious and neutral alike, able to see, hear, and in most cases, interact with them. Most use this natural skill to some degree, but all are skilled in combat and know how to defend themselves from all threats, supernatural or not.

DoctorWho + SapphirusSentio
Quote:
A blind Skydancer who can interact with the spirits of the dead, and a seer who predicted his very arrival to the clan. Who can say whether she predicted that they’d fall in love? Children of this pair tend to be seers or Speakers of the Dead, occasionally assisted by kindly spirits, or helping the spirits in turn. Those that are seers can foretell the future in various ways, whether innately or perhaps through the aid of the stars, taking either an active or more passive role in telling others what may come to be.

DrFaciliar + Kessa
Quote:
This was it, his greatest achievement; he, the great Dr Faciliar, had summoned a creature from the other side into his plane of existence! The striking being of darkness and demons appeared much like a Pearlcatcher, and apparently, required a great debt from her summoner . . . Which could be paid in small by cuddles and gifts of sweets. Children of this pair tend to be physically weak, but have great stores of magic, capable of a range of things from brewing potions, changing a dragons species, coloration, or genes, summoning creatures of unholy power, and manipulation of their own and others shadows.

38508024.png38696103.png
Finn + Mila
Quote:
A wayward spirit of autumn and frost was charmed by a young magicians magic tricks, and enamored by her great beauty. Their children are often great forgers and blacksmiths, great at magic tricks, and all-around terrific performers and storytellers. They try their hardest, and while they occasionally mess things up they do their best to fix it once again. Can see spirits of all sorts, being half-spirits themselves.

37848551.png37988125.png
Herobrine + Kailani
Quote:
A dragon long-cursed to remain bound to the sea, and a sailor’s daughter with a talent for music. Her gentle notes drew him in, and in a reversal of a classic, tragic tale, Joy lured the Sea Savior from the water. Their children love the water and the sea and are excellent at controlling it.
They can be awkward around people they don’t know, and are often talented musicians, and all have an excellent sense of good and bad sorts.

34397413.png37697855.png
Jin + Sunshine
Quote:
An artist and alchemist met a quiet, compassionate scribe, but it was by no means love at first sight. It took time and much scavenging and trading before Jin could amass a great many gifts for his future lover, eventually presenting her with a large collection of tomes and scrolls, all of which were lacking in their library. Their children are well-read and know most of the lands stories, besides carrying those of their clan with them, wherever they go. Some grow to be talented alchemists like their forebears, others love to write or tell stories, and others are studious scribes.

37435280.png37285006.png
Maxwell + Willwilly
Quote:
A wayward wanderer met a young mediator who had been adopted and raised in the clan some years back. Given their jobs as greeters, one finding and the other calming, it was simply meant to be. Children of this pair tend to love the sky more than most, despite their ties to nature. Many of them balance between play and work flawlessly, some are mediators, some are daredevils, and others are unpredictable in what they’ll do, but they tend to be optimistic and give it their all!

36994395.png32971629.png
Nightraider + Leonora
Quote:
An ex-mercenary and a music-maker were able to find solace for their haphazard paths in one another. Together, they guard and keep the morale of their clan up, through thick and thin, they’ll always love one another. Children of this pair are warriors, musicians, and more rarely healers. Most of them have some form of awareness for spirits, from a curse on their mothers side.

37425895.png37380066.png
Sliver + Milkyway
Quote:
Old companions of a calmer age, the warm-hearted Nocturne with icy magic fell in love with a cool-headed lightning thief of a Pearlcatcher. Children of this pair tend to be cool-headed with the occasional wild bursts of energy, or be rowdy all-around and prefer to dive into danger that could be easily prevented.

39630820.png37855714.png
Sniper + Winter
Quote:
A merc for hire from the mountains, and a spirit who brings the snow and frost. Each of their jobs requires a certain degree of subtlety, an art form that few others see, for the rest perceive only, that death is wrought in their wake. Children of this pair tend to be skilled in archery, and lean more towards Ice-based magic than others; all have an awareness of spirits in some capacity.

37769669.png37012640.png
Steven + Jacq
Quote:
A warm, kindly healer that goes out of his way to help people, and a playful spirit once crossed paths, the former able to see the very-much-surprised latter. First the spoke, and then they woke, all in a Pearlcatcher’s bed; truly, a tale as old as time. Children of this pair tend to be kindly healers, musicians, and playful or mischievous tricksters. No matter their calling, all are trained in hand-to-hand combat and know a decent amount of spells for defense and offense. No matter how innocent and friendly they are, they know how to look after themselves and those they care for.

31233736.png37425893.png
Traveler + Colby
Quote:
A savvy engineer and a wayward traveler found calm within one another in the swirling storm of their tumultuous, uncertain lives. Their children tend to prefer to wander astray or favor machines, and like to experiment in everything they do, no matter what it is.

Emrys + Elyta
Quote:
Though both love hatchlings, the clan founder and his mate have such vastly different spheres of responsibility that they are often apart. Elyta often jokes that Em's true love is his precious library, while Emrys sometimes wonders if Ely's charge isn't himself but rather the defense of the entire clan. Regardless, they are together as frequently as they are able and have raised many a young librarian and warrior.

Rosa + Saya
Quote:
The flamboyant Rosa, descended from Oakrest's Javor and Tala, is impeccable when it comes to fashion and design. Her shy mate Saya prefers to work in the background as a secretary, balancing Rosa's exuberance with exactness.

Viskning + Verso
Quote:
Together with Verso's brother Bound, these exorcists keep the clan as safe as they can from threats posed by their close proximity to the spirit realm. Carrying on the Hunter lineage of Ink and Paige of Oakrest, they teach their children to combat all things supernatural.

Rettah + Sentis
Quote:
Rettah is a dapper hatter from Maserift; Oakrest-born information broker Sentis doesn't let her curse stop her from wearing the finest apparel. They do their best to instill their offspring with the finest instincts for fashion and gossip.

Jinx + Kelliann
Quote:
Each hatched in Oakrest but met for the first time in Prufrock. Bumbling but well-meaning Jinx helps manage the clan's inn, Tiresias Tavern, while Kelliann tends the island's peach trees and other orchards.
