Tertiary Genes and Powers
Gene names link to AH searches for qualifying dragons
Basic
The Empty Vessel
Basic gene Sages have no natural powers. Instead, they borrow or steal their abilities from other Sages. Done by touch, the longer the contact the more power they absorb even up to a week of use. While not fatal the process can leave even willing subjects dazed and ill for days afterward.
Capsule
Chrysalis
It is known these Sages can transform items taken into their bodies. How this works varies from Sage, some able to simply decide what effects they wish to convey while others have no control whatsoever. Effects vary from simple color changes to complete transformations and even magical effects.
Circuit
Rewrite
Circuit Sages can manipulate and combine materials to create something new. Non-living matter, such as stone, is the simplest to work with. Matter that was once living being the next, and non-sentient living matter is the most difficult. Sage texts say manipulating sentient beings could be possible, that those who have attempted it paid a high price or even became Shattered Sages, altering their minds and powers permanently.
Contour
Willow Bladed
Like a willow branch or a good sword, these Sages are flexible past the point of contortion as if their bodies are made of boneless rubber when they choose to be. They can twist, flatten, and squeeze their forms into any container big enough to hold their mass without discomfort.
Flecks
Sentimental Epicure
These Sages can absorb, experience, and give a single emotion to other living beings. Emotions can range from joy, energized, exhaustion and grief. The Flecks Sage absorption does not permanently remove the emotion from the creature in question but does cause a calm state to settle over them for some time depending on the strength of the emotion and strength of the Sage. Depending on how practiced the Sage is in draining and handling emotions, they can choose to not feel the emotion. The more emotion these Sages absorb, the more their flecks color takes over their bodies until their original genes are invisible. Once this happens, the Sage must either experience the emotions themself or give them to others to return to normal.
Gembond
Geode Cruxed
Gembond Sages produce crystals all over their bodies. The types of crystals vary from fragile things like sugar and alum to much harder substances like diamonds or pure quartz. Generally, a Sage will only produce one type of crystal, but there have been cases of the types of crystal changing with a Sage's emotions, circumstances, or diet. It would not be unheard of for a Geode Cruxed Fae who produces quartz crystals to begin to produce amethyst after an extended stay at the Focal Point or other irradiated areas. Unlike normal dragons this power is generally not associated with the bite of the Onyx Cobra.
Ghost
Deathless
Sages who cannot die. This can take many forms from durable Sages whose bodies can withstand or regenerate from immense damage to parasitic Sages whose disembodied eyes can swarm an unsuspecting dragon and take them over. Rumor abound of ancient magical places where the spirit Sages live much as they did in life, merely bones, eyes and will.
Glimmer
Horizon Seers
Give a Sage with this ability a simple choice and they can tell you where the choice might take you. Especially effective with actual crossroads hence their name. The more choices however the harder this can become.
Glowtail
The Lucky Lure
For better or worse these Sages can change the luck of those around them. Some say you have to touch the shining tail of a Lucky Lure Sage to change your luck, others believe their mere proximity can bring down doom. Maybe it's both. Or maybe they just change others' perceptions?
Koi
The Charted
Sages with the tertiary gene of Koi are connected to a patch of Sornieth. It can be anything from a couple of acres to large tracts of land. These Sages are pushed to find their patch from nearly the moment they’re out of the egg. Many become renown wanderers who have seen much of the world. Once they find their land the urge to wander abates. These Sages become a traveling part of their land and can move within it in ways that are usually not possible and change it freely. But what affects the Sage affects the land as well. Any injuries or illnesses are reflected in the health of the Sage’s mapped area and any damage can injure the Sage as well.
Lace
The Veiled
These Sages see the dead, though only through practice and meditation can they make a dead soul aware of them. A physical representation of the veil between the living and the dead how they use their powers varies from spirit medium to graveyard keeper and beyond.
Okapi
The Unstrung
Able to dismantle themselves at will, Sages with the tertiary Okapi can rearrange their bodies as they see fit. Using their particular brand of ability even the smallest joints and separations can be undone and reassembled into a new configuration. Head and tail switched, wings backward these Sages can do with their bodies whatever they like!
Peacock
Glamoured Gaze
Sages with Peacock are rarely seen for who they are. The mesmeric nature of the peacock eyes on their wings and bodies inclines other dragons to like them, ranging from an attraction to the dragon in question to seeing them as looking or being entirely different than they are. The effect can wear off as the individual is away from them or even as they spend more time with the Sage and become accustomed to their particular effects. Obviously this can be detrimental to the Sage and the affected dragon. Rumor has it that some powerful Sages have learned to enrapture or entrap other dragons with this ability and specialized movements or dances and keep them hypnotized for long periods even years.
Ringlets
Children of Possibility
Only with the flexibility of a child's mind can these Sages survive. Able to see how ripples of possibility tie into the patterns of space, time, and matter these Sages are highly sought for their ability to influence events, general portability and dependency on others for care. They usually spend most of their time in a daydream state developed as a mental protection from becoming lost in their ability. They regularly react to interactions and events that haven't occurred. (Thank you to 3idolon and Delotha for lore concepts.) (Note: Originally these dragons could be Eternally Youthful. I'm accepting adult registrations now and there will be an in lore explaination and update in the future.)
Runes
Word of the Magi
Physically able to touch magic with any part of their body marked by runes, these Sages range from artisans to spies. Their abilities allow them to alter magic in living things temporarily, and in inanimate objects permanently. This magic is invisible to anyone but another Rune marked Sage, and sometimes used to pass messages - or just for graffiti.
Smirch
Trick of Light
Sages with smirch are ephemeral illusionists then can project what they see in their mind's eye into the world as an intangible but very convincing illusion. Some say this ability is hypnotic, others that these dragons simply will the illusion into reality.
Smoke
Dust in the Wind
Smoke Sages can read the past, future or far away present from the motes of their element around them. A Water Sage can read the rain or sea spray, Wind Sage can tell you what is happening at the Behemoth from the taste of the breeze, a Fire eyed Smoke Sage knows the story of the tree or the forest it came from by stirring the ashes it left behind. These powers can be unpredictable and unwieldy but if a Sage chooses to hone them and learn more about how their particular power works they can be a wellspring of information.
Sparkle
Blasphemous Glitter
These Sages are respected, perhaps even feared. But not without cause, since their power allows them to alter the elemental alignments. How the transmutation from one element to another is accomplished is a secret known only to the Sparkle Sage performing the act. Each method is unique to the dragon that uses it. As this ability runs so counter to the nature of Sorneith itself these Sages can face discrimination, which may also contribute to their secrecy over their methods.
Stained
The Memory of All
Stained Sages can gain the history of an object by looking at it with certain of their eyes. An object can be read by a Stained Sage from the smallest pebble to an apple plucked fresh from the tree. How that memory is gained is unique to each Sage, for example some experience disjointed moments from the life of the object, others abruptly have all the information about it available to them.
Thylacine
God touched
Rumor has it that a Deity quite literally touched these Sages, which one can sometimes be obvious by the color of the markings. Other times not as much. Sages with Thylacine tend to see the inner workings of the world around them more clearly, from seeing threads of a divine plan or understanding which seeds will sprout to riotous bloom.
Underbelly
Strange Stripes
Underbelly Sages see the world differently. This can manifest in many ways from a literally different sight, such as infrared, ultraviolet or radio waves to interpreting what they see very differently than other Dragons or even other Sages. They may not easily realize the difference between themselves and others. These Sages can struggle to communicate with those around them because of their perception, and despite their best intentions. But those who work with them will discover their insights can be invaluable. More than one clan has been saved from ruin by an Underbelly Sage.
Veined
Inner sight
Often healers, Sages with veined can see when something in another dragon is not as it should be, to what degree and type of sense (mental, physical, emotional, spiritual) depends on the Sage themself. Though many of these Sages are healers this power can also easily be used to manipulate others for darker ends.
