TOPIC | Animal Crossing New Horizons
Ah, I'm getting it today, I'm so excited! I've played New Leaf before, but if anyone have any starter advice specifically for New Horizons then I'd love to hear it!

@hydde
Don't be afraid to reroll! It really doesn't take long at all! They're going to show you 4 minimaps for islands, and if none of them speak to you, either reroll, or pick the most interesting one and spy on your fruit tree and neighbors! I really wanted a place that had Orange trees, and on my 7th reroll I got a place that had a heart-shaped pond and oranges. :)

@Sick
I definitely have extra Apple/Pear/Orange trees. :) Not much help on flowers right now, though I've noticed my Nook selling Tulips and Windblown varieties, so you can always grab some seeds sometime. :)

Also, I realize coordinating visiting someone's island isn't always easy, so people can feel free to add me on Discord, too, for ease of talking!

Thank you for the advice! I think I'll be aiming for peaches or cherries <;

I’m finally buying it and my dad is disproportionately excited for it.

Funny thing is, he just bought my brother Call of Duty.

This led to the sentence “Sorry [my brother’s name], we’re not playing Call of Duty anymore, we’re Animal Crossing fans now.”

Anyway, uh, could someone bring me up to speed on how it works? I’ve never played an AC game before and the only exposure I’ve had to New Horizons is Jacksepticeye’s 45 minute video of him also experiencing it for the first time. Like, what’s all this about different fruits and flowers?

A tired and slightly bored-looking night elf woman with short green hair and a burn scar on her left cheek, looking directly at the viewer. She's standing in front of a height chart for a mugshot, and her nose is bleeding.A night elf woman with purple facial tattoos and purple hair, looking at the viewer with a cocky grin. She's also standing against a height chart for a mugshot.

@antiferret I can make you the pear furniture! Let me know if you still need it. The best time for me to open my gates is around 10 pm CST. I have a little one so its best after he goes to bed lol

Also I haven't been on here since the game came out and wow! Way more pages now lol I need to go back and catch up

There will be one type of fruit and one type of flower native to your island. :) You can eventually buy seeds for the other flowers, and if you're lucky when you go island hopping you can find the other fruit trees you need. Between my friends and I we had all the fruit except oranges, which is why I just decided to reroll until I got it. :) Also, your Mom(? Can't remember if it's her or not) will send you a handful of another fruit, so you can start growing those immediately to eventually have a second fruit.

@RabidWhovian essentially it's just a really chill game about living on an island with a bunch of cute animals & you get to decide how to spend your time - whether it be collecting bugs, fish, & fossils for the museum, crafting DIY projects, upgrading your house, collecting furniture &/or clothes, making your own clothes, breeding flowers, hanging out with friends, or all of the above!

As mentioned above, this game introduced DIY projects & for those you need crafting materials, which there are a limited amount of on your island every day (eventually you can save up enough 'Nook Miles' - a type of currency - to travel to a deserted island where you can find more materials & sometimes even new villagers) so at the beginning it's best to be careful to not waste any materials & prioritize what you really need (such as tools like fishing rods, shovels, & nets, as selling bugs & fish can get you a lot of money).

But really it's up to you how you wanna play. Some people even time travel by setting their Switch's clock ahead a day so they can get to new stuff faster, as the beginning of the game is pretty slow. It's up to you! ^^

@LadyCouerlyn @cosmicsloth Thanks, both of you! I played it for like 4 hours straight after it downloaded and I think I was expecting it to be more complicated than it was... which is good, of course! I think I'm NOT going to time travel and just experience it the way it was intended. My first two villagers were Cherry and Sterling. I'm not sure how you get more villagers to show up, but I'm sure that'll come with time.

So for those of you who have online subscriptions, would you say it's worth it to get a year's subscription for animal crossing? I got a switch just for animal crossing, as I was mainly a 3DS/PC gamer. I miss when online was free, but since I will likely only have one game for a good long while, will the switch online subscription turn out to be a waste if it's just for one game that doesn't really 'need' online to be fun?
