A lot of the time, when I see a dragon with Spines, it’s because Spines did a really good job of hiding an otherwise-unusable tert. Unlike other “tert savers” like Sparkle, Firefly, Soap, and Stained, I don’t see a lot of other uses for Spines!
So show me dragons with Spines who have it not to hide their tert, but because it genuinely looked the best on them!
For example, I have Luster, whose Spines look like cool streaks in her feathers!

This guy is a fandragon of Belkar Bitterleaf from The Order of the Stick. The spines remind me a lot of how his buzz cut is drawn.

Psst - I like pings!
i love luster’s use of spines! i quite like how spines particularly layers between the mane of skydancers, it’s very pleasing…
for phlegmat here, i was stuck for a LONG time deliberating over sparkles or spines. sparkles blended better with the colors, but i couldnt get over how sharp and striking the spines looked, and honestly, what’s wrong with a little contrast? it really gives her character, like an intense mohawk, which matches the personality of a warmongering spirit. ugh, so good

She isn't finished, but the spiky look will fit this girl perfectly <3 (when I get to her lol)

Yugi is a fandragon, and he had spines (specifically as it appears on tundra males) to represent the long, blonde strands in the fictional character's multi-colored hair!

Luster is beautiful, the spines' golden accents mesh so well with the rest of her color palette!
Anastasia is in a similar situation - she came gened as-is, but I really liked how the spines matched the light areas of her primary, and how dangerous they made her look. Skydancer spines being so long that they are actually noticeable as part of the design is really nice.

Polly's spines look like little crystals and turned out to match the fest apparel really well.

Similarly, I initially wanted to change Serania's tert to something else more noticeable, but after dressing her up the spines turned out to already look good with all the golden accents in the apparel/skin, so I kept them.

These two below aren't gened yet, but for the Tundra the spines sort of give the mane the missing red color from Stone Poison on the wings, as well as also give him a wild look; and for the Bogsneak the spines are integral to making him look like a blooming cactus or succulent.

Oh! I have spines used very deliberately here!
