They are somewhat fickle and easily distracted things, a penchant for tea and parties and excuses to partake in both of those things being nearly universal traits among every tanuki, though some are more capable of being serious than others. Tanuki are skilled, first and foremost, at disguising. Whether that be changing their appearance to be a centaur or a centerpiece on the table, tanuki are uncontested in their abilities to turn into anything, though if they disguise as any one thing for too long, they risk being unable to transform at all again. Tanuki who are skilled at magic outside of transformation are called danuki, and they are treated with much respect (or, as much respect as a trickster spirit can muster) among tanuki clans. Specifications for the tanuki subspecies are as follows Breed: tundra most common, though lore permits any species of dragon with feathers or fur (skydancers, coatl, gaolers, pearlcatchers, wildclaws, obelisks, imperials if you somehow get one) Flight: Nature exclusive Genes: All of the listed genes are disallowed: metallic, alloy, iridescent, shimmer, circuit, keel, opal, capsule, and primaries/secondaries with accent colors that aren't fade/blend or swirl/marbled (for instance: no pin/trail, no lion/nox, etc). Some tanuki, however, still feel their roots in their bones, the days when their ancestors acted all too similar to their now fierce rival, kitsune. These tanuki are much more likely to have magical abilities outside of transformation, and often have a very cruel sense of humor or a dark view of the world. Usually for their callousness, they are cast out by caring clans, which does not tend to help their image of the world.

As before stated, tanuki are very fond of parties, and are known to be great party planners as well as cooks! As long as you don't mind a possible hair or two in your tempura, that is. Tanuki that leave their home clan to live among dragons tend to pick up jobs as cooks, party planners, contractors, or musicians. They also tend to give out loans to those who need, with no interest and no definite return date, out of respect for Futatsuiwa-daimyoujin, the enshrined deity tanuki who is known for doing the same.


Tanuki names:

Tanuki can name themselves pretty silly things, like Dirt and Maple, anything nature related goes for them! Some of the more well traveled tanuki, like Tom, will have names that seem esoteric and offbeat by tanuki standards, but perhaps more acceptable in dragon society. Tanuki also tend to create entire personas for the forms they take when they imitate dragons or other beastclan, so it's not uncommon for one tanuki to have anywhere up to five names they can go by in a day.

Tanuki clothes:

Tanuki love to dress! At least one animal apparel is essentially a necessity to them, being the sort of guardians of the forest they are. They are also fond of imitating monks, so it's not uncommon for a tanuki to be seen wearing sedge hats and prayer bead necklaces and sage robes. More casual outfits are usually comprised of just a sedge hat and an apron, usually with at least some materials for enjoying tea at their side. Tanuki are also known for playing instruments and sometimes being responsible for sightings of phantom lanterns and will o wisps (chouchinbi and tanukibi, respectively) .
