At the heart of the expanse, making up the vast majority of the territory, is the Reclaimer's Glacier: a desolate landscape filled with monsters and strange magic, blizzard-battered and wholly unforgiving. As the gaols in the Fortress of Ends grow more and more populated with alien monsters and shade-infected creatures, the Icewarden has commanded his subjects to expand--into the Glacier.
The Onding Outpost is one such expansions--one of the first, in fact. With very little to guide them beyond the strict demand of their deity and the years of experience they have working within the other gaols, a trio of gaolers were left behind when construction of the Outpost was completed. They were given enough supplies to get them started, but no more. Contact has been limited. The goal of this (and the few others scattered on the edge of the Glacier) is to determine the viability of expansion into the wasteland. While the capacity of the current gaols is not common knowledge in the Ice Flight as a whole, the gaolers on this expedition know just how crucial their success is, and they have sworn to do so. "Nor will sitting here," she snaps. She gazes back out across the wall. "I'm going out there. The shade is not something to [i]hide[/i] from. We are Gaolers! This is our purpose." She locks them both under her cold gaze. "You can come, or you can stay. It makes no difference to me."
Eon and Myrrh lock eyes as Crone shoulders he way passed them. Myrrh sighs, remembers the words of Crone's mother, and follows her out. Seconds later, Eon joins them. They face the shade together.

She can feel the air shift as his heavy body steps into the space next to her, looking out at the remaining shade beasts pacing around the defenses they'd erected along the wall.
Eon lets the silence hang for a long moment. Myrrh glaces at him. "How goes the garden?" Eon smiles, a tiny uncharacteristic curl of his lips. He has begun gardening in the lower levels of the fortress, baubles of sun hung along the walls.
"Things are finally starting to spout."
"Glad to hear it."
Eon gives a heavy sigh, and sits. "Have any fled?"
Myrrh nods. "Some. Very few though. And no signs of any dragons." A blessing and a curse.
Another long beat.
"Today was reckless."
Myrrh frowns. "...It was."
"We can't keep that up. We can't let [i]Crone[/i] keep that up." Eon looks over at her. "Myrrh I know you are here by her mother's request. I know you're only here to keep her alive."
"And why do you care?" Myrrh's voice edges on a growl.
"I don't," he says passively. "But if you both die I will either be in charge or sent home as a failure, and I want neither of those. So don't die."
Myrrh shifts, prickling. "If she goes down, I cannot return to her mother with the news." She meets Eon's gaze. "I will die before Crone does. And if that cannot happen, I will throw myself to whatever beast strikes her down."
Eon, even-faced as ever, only blinks. He does not voice any objections, does not repeat his displeasure with such a turn of events. "If you need me, I will be in the garden." He turns and leaves Myrrh with only the swirling thoughts of death to keep her company.

"Directly ahead. Towards the outpost."
His brow furrows, and he swears. "Alright, come on but be careful."
