Eon is an older gaoler, raised deep withing the Dripcave Dregs. He was once a Keeper, like most of the current Seekers. When the gaolers emerged once more from the Dripcave to contain the shade, he was one of the ones assigned to become a Seeker. He was young then, but he is not young now.
The failure of the orders weighed heavy on his soul, and he gave up much of his sense of self out of guilt for the gaolers as a whole. He had been raised entirely without ever seeing the sun, and for nothing. And now he no longer felt he deserved the luxuries of life at all.
No, now Eon was a seeker in the shape of a dragon. His whole life became hunting down aberrations and shade touched beasts, honing his tracking skills, a prodigy in the field. He throws his life on the line constantly, and still her survives. His lack of self preservation is both feared and admired by many in his order. Older, more archaic teachers praise his example, saying others should follow that ideology--turning oneself into nothing more than a weapon to be wielded against the shade.
Eon did not volunteer to join the Onding Outpost. He was selected by the Seeker-Warden, a great honor. His only desire is to do his job and to do it well, whether that be in in the caverns below the Fortress of Ends or out in the wasteland of the Glacier.

Part of him misses the wide halls of the long-established gaols, full of snarling twisting shade, vats even larger to hold real horrors--horrors Onding has no room for yet.
Tetai looks up from her papers, checking that Sprinkle heard her. "I want to start cataloguing the surroundings, and record those shade attacks. They're unusual."
Sprinkle nods. "A good idea."
Tetai takes a breath. "I think Crone should come."
Sprinkle arches his brow. "Why is that?"
"I think it would be good for her to get out of the Outpost and into some work for a bit."
"You heard about Eon?" He knows she did. He told her.
"Yes," she says tentatively. The unspoken presence of Crone's paranoia hangs in the air. "I think it would be good for her anyways. For her to see real proof of our progress in establishing the gaol."
Sprinkle takes a deep, pensive breath. Then nods. "Okay. Fetch her, I'll pack."

Tetai gives Sprinkle more than one knowing look, which he takes impassively. They pause frequently to take notes, to let Sprinkle bottle snow and plant matter to stir his sense of smell later, kickstart his memory. Where the gaolers rely heavily on their natural attunement to the presence of Shade, a tundras sense of smell, while sometimes hard to decipher, is unparalleled across Sornieth. It is during one such pause he smells dragon.
Gesturing silently to his gaoler companions, the trio spread out, Sprinkle at the forefront, approaching the scent. Suddenly his body language shifts, relaxes, and his pace quickens. Tetai and Crone, apprehensive, follow suit.
Half buried in the snow is a small, mewling gaoler calf. No tracks of parents in sight. The trio stand stunned for a moment, but when the calf slowly lifts it head, weakly opens its eyes, gaze as locked as it can be on Crone's, she melts.

[item=Swiftfoot Warrior's Belt][nextcol]Salt in the wound of the loss of young Eigarr, Eon's return trip to the Fortress of Ends has come to bare fruit, and Onding Outpost has many more mouths to feed.
The newcomers bring an air of celebration stark against the grim interior, but still it seems to shake most from the melancholy--at least there are new noises to adjust to, new laughters to listen for, new stories of home.
And oh how many stories! Eon spread the word of Onding's success kindly for someone who had been so curtly exiled, and the group of five say there are many more reinforcements to come. Not all the fortresses have fared so well, many of them having already fallen to the Shades. But Onding is a beacon of stubborn hope upon the Glacier.
Shifter is enamored with stories of the Fortress of Ends--like the Outpost but vaster, deeper, colder, older. Filled with dragons many many times his size. Salt in the wound of the loss of young Eigarr, Eon's return trip to the Fortress of Ends has come to bare fruit, and Onding Outpost has many more mouths to feed.
The newcomers bring an air of celebration stark against the grim interior, but still it seems to shake most from the melancholy--at least there are new noises to adjust to, new laughters to listen for, new stories of home.

Not all the fortresses have fared so well, many of them having already fallen to the Shades. But Onding is a beacon of stubborn hope upon the Glacier.
