New genes for Gaoler dragons to choose from!
[Image Caption: The banner image reads "Gaoler Gene Expansion: New Parallel Genes" and depicts a Gaoler dragon which has a long fur coat and curling antlers. The dragon is in shades of cream and orange and has a spotted boa pattern all over its body.]
Gaoler Parallel Genes
Additional genes are now available on for Gaoler dragons! Each of these genes has a chance to appear where their modern counterpart is available. This means that if the modern version of the gene was available in the treasure marketplace, the Gaoler version will be too. If it was available through Baldwin, that is where the Gaoler parallel can be brewed!

Grand Exchange Shop for Ancient Gene Plans
In our Aether update we mentioned that we had several plans to address the influx of parallel ancient genes. We wanted to talk about one of those now:
We plan to address the Ancient gene bloat across site activities in the future by creating a new year-round Grand Exchange shop where players can exchange modern genes for their Ancient parallel counterparts. The modern versions of these genes will stay in their respective systems while the ancient parallels will be moved out. This new, consolidated method of acquisition is exclusive to parallel genes found across site activities, such as Night of the Nocturne (NotN), Arlo, Baldwin, Swipp, and the Coliseum, and will allow players to easily swap the genes they have for the genes they need. This will help to consolidate things when there’s 5, 10, or 15 alternate for the same gene and keep our site activities from becoming bloated with variants.
- This shop will not include Treasure and Gem Marketplace genes. The ancient versions will continue to be sold for half the cost of their modern counterparts and will remain in the Marketplace. The Treasure and Gem Marketplace sorting and stocking of ancient genes will be addressed in a separate update.
- This shop will include NotN parallel genes. Their ancient counterparts will be removed from Higgens, who offered a 1:1 modern for ancient gene trade last year. This will allow the trade to happen year-round. Strange Chests will continue to drop the modern versions of these genes during the holiday event.
- This shop will include Ancient Archaeology parallel genes, whose 1:1 trade will be removed from Baldwin. The new Grand Exchange trades will not require a vial component or treasure. Ancient genes that are exclusive to Archaeology that have no modern counterpart will remain in Archaeology.
- This shop will include ancient Coliseum parallel genes. These Ancient genes will be removed from the list of potential coliseum drops, and their modern counterparts will receive a drop rate increase and drop from more opponents.
- This shop will include ancient Baldwin parallel genes. These Ancient genes will be removed from recipe lists. We will be reducing the reagents required to brew modern versions of the genes when the Ancient parallels are removed. Ancient genes that are exclusive to Baldwin with no modern counterpart will remain with Baldwin.
- This shop will include Swipp parallel genes. These Ancient genes will be removed from Swipp's trades, and an additional instance of the modern gene trade will be added to the pool of potential trades to increase its frequency. If an Ancient gene is exclusive to Swipp and there is no modern counterpart for it, that gene will stay with Swipp.
- Each of these trades will require you to exchange a modern copy of the gene to receive the parallel Ancient version of your choice.
- These are plans for a future update and are not currently implemented. Ie: ancient genes are still found individually across site activities, the coliseum drop rates and brew requirements of moderns have not yet been changed etc.
We hope that by adding a one-stop, always-available system of trading and increasing the frequency and availability of non-marketplace, site-activity generated modern genes, that we can create an experience that benefits our players and the projects that they are working on.
We also have plans to tackle the gene bloat in the following areas:
- Marketplace
- Auction House
- Search
- Scrying Workshop
These will be separate updates. They will largely touch on the sorting, stocking, and convenience of the systems and more information will be available in future updates.
