The Metal Mines
The Metal Mines are an inhospitable set of caves that are rich in a rare and expensive metal used to built spaceships. These mines leave deep scars in the once perfect land and society. They were originally put into place by J'nere, a long since dead Blue Albino leader.
J'nere and the Unicorn
For a few centuries, Jakians lived separate from their blackfur relatives, the Netherics. They were doing fine, living peacefully in large cities in the beautiful tropical environment and only altering the land as they needed. The World Tower was the center of the Jakian society and where the Blue Albino leader lived. His name was J'nere. He was Psychokinetic that believed he deserved everything on the Jakians' small planet. He owned a large menagerie that proudly boasted every type of creature that could be found on the planet. Even with that he was not happy. That's when he was contacted by the Netherics.
They claimed that while their scouts were travelling to the brightest corner of the Netheric home planet, they discovered a creature more majestic than all the rest; a "pure white, wingless Drorse with a single straight horn". J'nere knew immediately that what they were referring to was a Unicorn, the rarest creature in the known solar system. He demanded that the creature be brought to him but the Netherics were sensitive to the sunlight and refused to attempt another journey there. They did, however, grant one Jakian escort to enter their planet to obtain one of these beasts in return for blueprints for Phychoreactant structures. J'nere agreed to the trade.
There was a problem that J'nere now had to face. At this time, the Jakians were unable to travel between worlds like the Netherics could. J'nere's instructors told him to ignore the Netherics as they were most likely lying. Regardless of knowing full well that the Netherics are tricky liars, J'nere refused to give up the trade deal. He paced around every day, trying to think of a place to start.
One day, he got a crazy idea...

"Perhaps if we can get deeper underground, there are mineral reserves just under the surface caves that we've been missing out on. Maybe, just maybe, we can get at them."
J'nere chuckled and walked past Stemon, his primary instructor. Stemon perked her grey ears up and stared in astonishment at J'nere, who had seemed to have lost his sanity.
"Are you crazy? All these years that you've been in rule you've been doing your best to keep the environment healthy and put nature and her children first. What has happened to that? Are you really considering putting holes into her perfect land in pursuit of a creature that isn't even native to this planet?"
J'nere turned abruptly to Stemon and flashed his unchipped teeth at the greyfur.
"Do not question me."
The small greyfur shrank back and retreated to her quarters as J'nere glared at her from down the bright hall.
