Dragon Log

The last Nocturne born to the Clan during the Night of Nocturne, he is thoroughly enjoying being a part of an Arcane clan. He ventures outside every night to go exploring, and comes back with some very interesting things....the Clan would be worried, if not for the fact that Athena is easily able to sense her birth Flight-mate, and keeps an eye on him from a distance. In addition, his faithful--and much older and wiser--familiar accompanies him everywhere--outside at night, and in the deepest, darkest parts of the cave during the day. Only time will tell how this dragon's interests and hobbies might change as he grows older....

3-5-15: In honor of his exploring habits, he has taken a name indicative of an ancient "naturalist" he found referenced in an old Scroll that Merlin had. He thinks it fits him quite well, and can not understand why some of the other dragons seem so amused, and others annoyed at the long pronunciation.... Most just call him "Humboldt," or "Bolt," much to his annoyance.

4-4-15: Older and wiser the Glossy Duskrat may be, but until today he was not truly Awakened to his potential….now that has changed. Bolt is pleased at the greater prospects for exploration now the Duskrat can better manage things—and the Clan is just happy that Bolt’s “babysitter” has finally “grown up.”

9-19-15: The Clan has recently experienced something of a shock. It seems that Bolt was not quite as oriented into fighting with his teeth and claws as everyone thought. While he was out exploring, another dragon of the Clan accidentally stumbled on Bolt's favorite clearing, far from the caves of the lair. To Lumos' complete surprise, Bolt was playing with liquid fire! None of the Clan had realized that the young Nocturne was a Mage.... much less one strong enough to manipulate Will o' the Ember to do his bidding.... after a bit of a talk, however, it turned out that Bolt has been playing with magic for some time... but wanted, for his own reasons, to keep it quiet. Lumos eventually convinced him to reveal the truth to the other dragons--and now the sight of Bolt being followed by friendly fire sparks has become an extremely familiar one in the caves....

3-5-16: Bolt's explorations--of both the magical and non-magical variety--have yielded some interesting fruit. A lonely Parda has been paling along with him for some time, and now the cute little one has made it official, and initiated a magical bond! Bolt is very pleased with his new familiar... and even better, the Glossy Duskrat seems just as pleased--though that might simply be because he is looking forward to a rest.....

6-6-16: The Parda has Awakened at last! No longer quite so little, he is looking to do some more adventurous exploring--and Bolt is only too happy to comply....

8-12-17: It seems that after almost a full year of no real new bondings, the unchosen familiars in the hoard are racing to make up for lost time. Only a few days after the last familiar, a Dainty Wavehopper, chose her dragon, there has been yet another choice made. Bolt was quite surprised, when during his routine visit to the hoard, he was almost bowled nose over tail by a whistling Sentry Squawker. The Golem Creature was so eager for the bond he didn’t even wait for Bolt to scramble to his paws, but hopped on top of the explorer’s chest and shoved his face into Bolt’s eyes, beeping frantically. No one is really sure why the small creature was so desperate, or, for that matter why he chose Bolt, but the Clan is rather relived with his choice all the same. At least now if Bolt gets himself into trouble during his wanderings, “Whistler” can sound an alarm…

8-30-17: Shortly after acquiring his new companion, Bolt headed off for another adventure, though this time he had an actual destination in mind, as he headed to the Ashfall Wastes for the Flameforger’s Festival… ( )

Oh dear...The Clan's naturalist has blundered his way into the Flameforger's Festival....well, perhaps he will get lucky with the Ember Toss. The rest of the Clan certainly doesn't seem to be doing that badly...

8-31-17: Well, Bolt's efforts weren't the best, but they certainly weren't as bad as they could have been, either. Unfortunately, however, while he was at the stall, Bolt was reminded of his unhappiness over this year’s Fire Festival familiar not choosing to bond with him, and now the Clan has a sulking Fire Mage to deal with. This could be bad... ( )

9-2-17: During the Festival, Bolt was "ambushed" by an apparently overwhelmed Sunfire. Apparently, the older Tundra, while thrilled to be chosen by the Firebird (this year’s Fire Festival familiar), has absolutely no idea how to care for a Spirit Animal. So, as she explained to Bolt, she is turning to the Clan's naturalist and animal expert for help. Humboldtianum was absolutely thrilled, and has forgotten his anger with his Clanmate entirely in the joy of being chosen to be Guy's "babysitter." The two dragons sealed their agreement with a friendly bout of Ember Tossing at the Fire Forge Stall--following the ideas of several other members of the Clan... ( )

So a fun time was had by both, and a potential issue has rather peaceably been resolved...though some in the Clan are a little surprised that a dragon as devoted to her familiars as Sunfire is would have absolutely no idea how to care for one of them. No one, however, is saying a word to Bolt about the oddity of it. It's nice, after all, not to have to duck his angry fireballs....

11-10-17: The Sentry Squawker has Awakened at last! Bolt is enjoying watching his friend preening himself, and wondering what Whistler will do next...

12-15-17: After some delay--caused by Whistler not wishing to share the limelight with yet another creature quite so soon--Bolt has his "Special Fire" familiar...or at least, he has a familiar from Joxar, and a tentative promise that he will have first shot at the Fire Elemental next year. In the meantime, however, the Cinder Nymph has chosen him for a companion, and both seem very happy with the arrangement. The Clan is breathing a heartfelt sigh of relief that the last vestiges of that particular storm have been smoothed over at last--especially since it was Sunfire who bought the Cinder Nymph from Joxar to begin with. Now all Bolt has to do is figure out what to name his newest friend....

3-23-18: No name is yet forthcoming...but after a long time, the Cinder Nymph has finally decided to Awaken! Bolt is extremely happy for his friend, and certain that they will find a nice name soon. In the meantime, the Nymph's collection of cinders are certainly helping the whole clan during the colder months, and it seems that Sunfire's Guy rather likes them to play in as well....

8-26-18: Bolt is ecstatic! The Fire Familiar this year is a manticore...and the Conflagrant Ambassador took one look at Humboldtianum and instantly initiated a familiar bond. So not only does Bolt have his "Special Familiar" at last, it is absolutely perfect for a naturalist! He is so thrilled by this turn of events, that he has stopped asking Sunfire if she needs any more help with her firebird....

8-29-18: Bolt has made another appearance at the Flameforger's Festival, in search of some more lovely bottles from that the wonderful game he found last year. And he certainly found what he was looking for... ( )

Bolt didn't do too badly in his quest to acquire those interesting Fire Snakes within the bottles: Out of 10 Bottles, only 2 broke. He is very happy with his 8 little snakes, though he is also hanging around the Forge to see what might come next...

9-1-18: And what has come next is even more incredible: The little snakes have become dragons! Bolt's initial despair at the realization that he didn't have any Embers to make more tosses has been changed to joy due to the actions of one of his Pearlcatcher Clanmates, ( ) and so Humboldtianum has a very happy miniature dragon to add to his collection of odd creatures....

9-2-18: It seems that the Fire Naturalist's visit to the Volcano in the Ashfall Waste had some odd side effects--or perhaps it was the visit to the strange Forge with those so incredible bottles? Whatever the reason, Bolt now has even more affinity to his element than before, with a Conflagrant Halo joining his ember wisps....and for some reason his skin and tail are now looking a little singed, as if coated with a Magmatic Cloak....

8-25-19: Bolt returned to the Flameforger’s Festival this year, looking for more fascinating fire critters, and stumbled on a very interesting cabin… ( )

…and now he has several wonderful new creatures to research! Not a bad outcome to that odd adventure at all…

8-29-20: It seems that Bolt is not done collecting creatures. While at the Flameforger’s Festival he decided to make a visit to the Ember Toss tent where he had gotten his min-dragon “Ember” and Ember”’s 7 brothers 2 years before. To his delight, there were once again creatures on offer, and now he is happily trying to acquire as many as he can--as well as attempting to procure a Cindershroom or two for his Clanmate Amber, who is very intent on adding them to her hoard, for some odd reason. ( , ) Bolt doesn’t understand Amber’s interest in a Shroom that sorts rocks, but he does know something else she will like: A Cinder Creeper that spins metal and gemstone webs instead of silk. ( ) Hopefully he will be able to acquire one or two for her…and maybe a few for Anguis to use in his forging, too…
