Crowned Roc with budgies discovering a wind egg.

"The best things in life happen unexpectedly."

__ Liege, a large green Crowned Roc, tilted his head looking at a group of budgies that were all perched on light green egg of the Wind Dragon variety. It wasn't an odd or uncommon chance to find a dragon's egg. Liege had always found it amazing how many were misplaced. Beastclans often picked them up and took care of them. And if they found a dragon they thought worthy they would 'drop' the egg after a small skirmish.

__ That wasn't what had Liege confused. Budgies didn't belong to the Beastclans that made up his home at Harpies Roosts, they were more like little companions that clung to Harpies in joy for the food they offered. So maybe that's why they didn't know one of the rules about dragon's eggs. And that was : They were NOT to be brooded. As long as they weren't they would stay in a state of suspended animation and would not hatch, no matter how long the Beastclan member had them.

__ But those little budgies had build a nest up around the egg and had all huddled together on top of it. And it didn't look like they had just started today. Ziggy the green Budgie who had brought him over fluttered up to look into one of Leige's large eyes. "The eggs moving."

__ Liege winced. "You little fools! What have you done?" before they could answer the egg shook so hard that the other budgies had to abandon their perches on top of it. They all fell silent as they watched it shake and bounce, a crack slowly form.

__

___ A bright green head popped out and Wind colored eyes met Liege's own green orbs. Liege smiled ruefully. "Hello little one. Welcome. Your birth is a special one. Born on Harpies Roost. I shall call you: Alkonosts. We're your family now." he nodded to the little budgies, who with excited clicks landed all over the little dragon.

__ Before Liege had time to say more the Harpies in charge of guarding the area stumbled upon them. The uproar Alkonosts' birth caused! And the celebration after it became an accepted event. Both caused Liege quite the headache.

__ Liege claiming his right of guardianship, being as he was the first living being that Alkonosts saw, was very protective. He trained Alkonosts how to be strong, helped him slowly gain colors in his plumage and taught him how to see with Roc (hawk) like vision.

__ The four little budgies; Buzzie, Flaps, Ziggy, and Dizzy, taught Alkonosts the joy of music, mischief, and rhyme.

__ The whole Harpy clan taught him battle tactics, art, magic, and medicine. Overall, Alkonsts life was a pleasant and calm one. Until one day, when he found out something he had never known before, something… big.

__ It all started when Alkonosts found a little and lost, Pauchy Green Percher in a tall shrub on the edge of a cliff. While coaxing Pansy to come out, Alkonosts heard laughter and looked down. To see creatures he had never seen before, but looked more like his reflection than any of his family. They were sharing stories. Stories that rhymed! Or had a rhythm to them. New creatures. New ways to express ideas... He stilled and watched them in silence for a long time

__ The new creature finished reciting the poem and the others clapped, "Bravo!", "Fantastic!", "Yoooooo!". Alkonosts eyes were wide as he watched the group reciting what they called poems from his perch in the shrub, he had already overheard quite a few of these poems, and the last one, was by far, his favourite.

__ A grin spread across his beak, he was in awe of the poems, and shocked that there actually existed creatures that looked like him! Alkonosts thought he was the only one! He dashed back to where he lived, The Harpy's roost, Pansy the Percher, held caringly in his talons. A few minutes later, Alkonosts flew up and arrived at his enormous nest. Pansy, in his talons chirped happily in thanks. Not lost anymore, she flew to his shoulder and settled down. Alkonosts smiled, another friend made.

__ There was a little pause before Alkonosts let out the squeal that had been building up inside him, "OH MY WINDSINGER, THERE ARE DRAGONS LIKE ME!!!! I THOUGHT I WAS THE ONLY ONE!"

__ "Well, it was pretty obvious" muttered Flaps, causing Ziggy to bop Flaps lightly on the beak, and then puffed out his chest feathers

__ "Quiet you! I didn't even know that, and as we all know, I'm the cleverest one"

__ "Pfffffft, please, saying that was dum!" Buzzie spoke up, a smug look on his face. Dizzy, being the youngest one, was just squealing along with Alkonosts in happiness.

__ Liege rolled his eyes at all of them, with a small smile himself.
