Biography

Aurqilea
↠ he / him
↠ Architect

Aurqilea is the clan's passionate architect. He is very loyal to the clan, though tends not to be very forward about getting to know his clanmates. Because of this, he only has a few friends and those are dragons that approached him.
_____He adores East-Asian architecture (though 'Asia' isn't something the dragons of Sorneith would be familiar with). The features of his work include bilateral symmetry, dramatic layered roofs, painted support columns, intricate symbolic ceiling carvings and paintings, as well as emphasising a connection to nature through large windows or wall-less structures. He was drawn to the lair because of the small shrines that act as stepping stones across the great lake, which have been there for many years before his arrival. He does not know how old they are, but he has built the whole lair around them.

Relationships

57929360p.png Louis is constantly coming to Aurqilea with ideas for the lair, while the latter politely nods and then discards them all. Louis' style is simply way too tacky, so Aurqilea tends to ignore his advice. Louis doesn't even seem to notice that his advice isn't taken on board, but thinks the lair looks great, so he must have had a hand in it. Aurqilea doesn't correct him, but everyone else knows the truth.
57660502p.png
Perhaps surprisingly, Actaea is the real dragon behind the design choices in the lair. Both he and Aurqilea have a love for Chinese architecture. Open pavilions are a hallmark of this clan, with carved columns and painted ceilings, and lots of plants and water.
61574450p.png
Nymph is the clan painter, who turns the columns, roofs and ceilings of Aurqilea's buildings into works of art. He trusts her judgement on what looks good, and she never fails him.

Namesake: Quenya for golden or sunlit

Lair Tour
"Hmm? Are you here for the lair tour? Oh, good, please join me! I can show you all of the best spots, and you may even meet some clan members along the way. Now, let's start from the top!"

The Peak

__._
The morning is quiet, as though the fog is a blanket smothering the sounds of the clan beginning their day. You had been glad for the glowing red lanterns on the landing platform, or else you may have been lost until the fog cleared.
_____A dark Veilspun, speckled with warm golds, is waiting by the platform as you land, and gives you a small smile. "I'm glad you managed to find you way. I am Aurqilea, the clan's architect. Please allow me to show you around." He begins up the path, paved with large, smooth stones and you follow. Around you, trees rustle gently, and you can hear the distant trickle of water. Lanterns are interspersed evenly along the path, though the steadily-rising sun is already causing the fog to dissipate. Other, smaller paths are marked by different coloured lanterns, and Aurqilea gestures down each one as you pass. "These lead to private residences, primarily for those holding governmental positions. Our leader likes them to sleep close by, should he require them for some emergency. Though," he adds, with a small smile, "those are quite rare."
_____The water grows louder as you pass over a carved wooden bridge, and you peer down to the swirling creek below. "Water is an important feature in our landscape," the Veilspun says, looking happily at the water as it flows around the stones. "The sound of it is quite calming, don't you think?"
_____You continue on, and the path widens and trees thin as you come upon a great lake. You can see a series of small islands connected by more arched bridges, all gleaming with lanterns. But the most striking structure is the enormous multi-levelled pavilion that stretches almost the whole length of the lake.
_____"This is our governmental office," Aurqilea says as he leads you up the large stone steps. "There are daily meetings to assess the state of the clan, its finances and supplies and such. It also holds the clan records."
_____Aurqilea begins speaking about the historical significance and symbolism of each element of the room, as you survey it. Great, heavy lanterns are lit, and illuminate the ceiling, far above your heads, ornately carved and painted in red, blues and greens. It is supported by wooden columns, so wide that not even the longest Spiral could hope to wrap around it. These are also carved and painted, all in pristine condition. The roof seems to stretch endlessly, though paper screens divide the floor into sections.
_____"This early in the day, it is quite peaceful, though in a few hours it will be bustling. There is another level above this, not quite so grand in size, I will admit, but the columns are more beautiful still than these. Unfortunately, I will be scolded for taking you there, especially if the morning meeting is in session. But fret not, there is plenty more to show you."
_____You follow him back out towards the lake, and he points out the islands. "The Library is on the central island. We do not have so grand a library as many clans, but it is a quiet place to read. You should come in the summer. Reading a book whilst lying on the cool stones with your tail in the water..." He sighs wistfully, eyes the small building in the centre of the lake. "Just don't get any of the books wet or Haleth will scold you most severely."
_____He draws your attention to the smaller islands that act like stepping stones across the lake to the Library, each dotted with a tiny gazebo. "These are some of the oldest structures in the lair, and have been of great inspiration to me in creating the rest of the lair. They mostly get ignored though, unfortunately, but they are used by some as places of meditation or prayer. When I am feeling lost with a project, spending some time there helps invariably."
_____"Now," he says, unfurling his wings as he looks to you with a smile. "I have one more building to show you."
_____He takes off, and you follow him, gliding low over the smooth lake to the opposite shore. Here is another building, in a similar style to the Grand Pavilion, though smaller and decidedly less opulent. Though it appears to be one building, many bridges cross small streams, which flow over the edge of the cliff.
_____Aurqilea leads you through a doorway into the building. It is cool inside, and quite strange to be standing inside whilst water flows in gaps in the stone. It is much less open that the Pavilion, with heavy, unpainted screens creating little nooks. Many of these screens drawn back, revealing empty places of rest, in all sizes.
_____You follow the sound of murmured voices to a pair of Imperials, caught up in a lesson about the medicinal properties of amaranth plants. The glistening cream one notices you first, surveying you thoughtfully and then tipping their head to the side. "You are not injured, are you?"
_____"This is Alátariel, our clan's head healer," Aurqilea tells you. "And this is... wait, Hikari, aren't you a Guard? What are you doing here?"
_____"O-Oh, no, I mean yes! I am a Guard! I was only, um-"
_____"His sister has an aptitude for violence," Alatariel says smoothly, "he was only checking in on her latest victim."
_____"That's right!" Hikari said hastily. "Narya is, ah, quite... um..."
_____"Well, this building isn't much fun," Aurqilea says, when Hikari stammers off into silence. "Alatariel won't let me spruce it up. It 'gets in the way of their work', apparently, though I don't see them doing work all too often."
_____"How unkind," Alatariel doesn't sound hurt in the least. "You'd do well to start on the Library, and then the eastern columns of the Pavillion before coming here. And, as I've told you, I am more than happy for you to 'spruce up' my room before starting down here."
_____Aurqilea just sighs. "This is not an argument I will win," he says to you lowly. "But now you have seen our clan's centre. I'm sorry there wasn't more activity, though perhaps that is for the best. If you care to continue on the tour, there is more than just the Peak, despite what some may say!"
___

__._ After leaving the healing suites, Aurqilea leads you towards a landing platform jutting out from the sheer edge of the cliff. Your eyes follow the stream of water as it flows over the edge and down to a small grove that juts out from the cliff face. You can see a Wildclaw dozing contentedly in the grass, sun playing across their pink-hued wings.
_____"Ah, that is the entrance to the Pairgrounds, where the clan's pairs spend a lot of their time," Aurqilea says, following your gaze. "I did not have a hand in that one. It is a cave, formed more-or-less naturally. I've heard it is quite the labyrinth; I don't know how they manage not to get lost in it. At night, it is supposedly all lit up by glow worms." He trails off, and then clears his throat. "We shall perhaps not impose on them, though," he says, with an air of bashfulness. "But if you wait here, you might catch some of them going to and fro. They have their roles in the clan too, after all."
"Anyway, there is more to see, though it is not so much my expertise. If you should like to see our clan's Greenhouses, then please, make your way to the ledge down there- yes the one with the trees- and Vilviren will be more than happy to show you around."

Aurqilea, what do you think was/is your best work as an architect?

Aurqilea's eyes light up at the topic, and he turns to you with rapt attention. "The Grand Pavilion was perhaps my grandest achievement, and was very laborious and time-consuming. The result is beautiful, of course, and I am very proud of it, but I think my favourite work is the the gazebo on the east side of the lake. It is all open, and one can look out right across the lake, and it has a glorious painted ceiling and wonderfully carved columns. Though it is small, or at least compared to me, it is exceedingly intricate and beautiful. A place of calm and quiet, and I spend a lot of time there. It reminds me of what I want to achieve in my architecture, and I think it captures my style best." His gaze is distant and it is a moment before he seems to remember your presence.
"If you should ever like to visit, I would be very happy to give you a grand tour," he beams.

Where do I start!?! The first thing I see is the gorgeous gold dragons with pretty art. The skins and the neatly placed color-coded dragons make my brain feel happy.

You take the time to make clan gossip sections and even relations which is so cute and adds so much flavor to the lair. Matchy familiars and lovely skins throughout your lair. HeXuan is my favorite along with HuaCheng (btw my favorite character!!)
Honestly, I adore your lair also can we be friends??!!??

Exalting Aurqilea to the service of the Earthshaker will remove them from your lair forever. They will leave behind a small sum of riches that they have accumulated. This action is irreversible.
