Biography

Vilviren
↠ he / him
↠ Insect Tender

Vilviren spends most of his time with Rainë, tending to the greenhouse's butterfly population. Though Vilviren is far from the clan's only butterfly dragon, Rainë has a soft spot for him and considers him a close friend.
Vilviren was initially recruited as a guard, but it was quickly discovered that this was not for him. He is upset by violence and is by far the clan's gentlest Wildclaw.

Leaf is Vilviren's corgi friend. She is an incredibly friendly pup who made her way to the clan from the Singer's Brook of the Windswept Plateau. The Greenhouses remind her of her puppy days, which may be why she still acts like one here! She has a great love of plants, and she spends her time trailing after Vilviren as he tends to the Greenhouse's sprawling plantlife.

The Greenhouses
__._ A pale blue Wildclaw, with wings like that of a butterfly, spots you as you land at the end of the landing platform. Unlike the ones on the Peak, this is simple, sturdy wood with no paint or carvings.
_____"Aurqilea mentioned there might be someone to show around today," the Wildclaw says as he hurries over to you. He looks excited by the prospect of showing you around. "My name is Vilviren, and welcome to the Greenhouses."
_____Indeed, there are several buildings of green-tinted glass, with once-white frames that have discoloured to a pale yellow over time. They are nestled amongst old trees, with knotted trunks and boughs which hold an array of birds whose bright plumage flashes as they dart about. There is the sound of running water from somewhere, perhaps a creek trickling through the trees. The sounds of water, as well as singing birds, rustling leaves and branches gently tapping the glass windows is welcome after a rather still morning on the Peak.
_____Vilviren seems to take note of the comparison as well. "Ah, I suppose, having come from the Peak, this must seem quite unpolished," he says, brow furrowed. "I have been meaning to cut back some branches, and the grass may need a little clipping, oh and those vines..." He tails off, looking around with a small frown, as if making a mental list of all the unfinished jobs he will have to complete when you leave. "But just you wait! The inside is very beautiful." With a soft smile, he leads you down a flower-lined pebble path to the first greenhouse.
_____The inside is humid and warm, the smell of damp soil overwhelming. In the summer, the heat would be intolerable, but for now it is quite pleasant. "This greenhouse is for our medicinal plants. Some of them are harvested from the forest, but the ones we use a lot of are grown here."
_____'Orderly' is not a word that would come to mind when looking at the greenhouse. It really is like a little jungle, with vines and branches from many different plants crisscrossing over the path, little droplets falling on your head. Damp roots have wriggled out of their pots and beds to create multiple tripping hazards. The Wildclaw navigates it deftly, lifting vines out of the way to allow you to pass through more smoothly, all while pointing out different plants and telling you their uses.
_____When you step out, the air feels cool and refreshing, but Vilviren strides on ahead into the next glasshouse, unfazed. Through three more he leads you, each smaller than the next, until he stops in front of the largest one of all. It is long, the end of it build to jut out over the cliff's edge.
_____"This is my favourite spot," he says shyly, "I do hope you will like it too."
_____Entering through the first door, a glass door like the others, was a series of long soft ropes. Stepping through, you see why, as you are met with a flurry of colour. The glasshouse is full of butterflies, in all shapes and sizes. The flit around leisurely amongst an abundance of flowers.
_____Vilviren turns to you happily, a few perched docilely on his horns. "We don't eat these ones," he admits, "they are more like pets. Some of the species are endangered, so we breed them here and then release them into the forest. Like that one!" He excitedly points at one that flits between you before landing on the tip of your nose. "Aw, lucky! They're usually really shy."
_____"You're too nice, Vil," comes a second voice, and the Wildclaw looks abashed. A small Fae flits into view, peering at you curiously, before flitting off to fill a shallow bird bath with flower-shaped watering can.
_____"That's Rainë. He's actually the clan's progenitor," Vilviren confides quietly. "I don't know if it's a secret..."
_____"It's not." The Fae says tonelessly, though he seems to be quite content as the butterflies flit about him.
_____"Well that's good!"
_____There is a sudden pitter-patter of feet and Vilviren's face splits into a smile. "Oh, this is dear Leaf," he says, stooping so as to scoop the tiny corgi off the ground. "She helps out in the Greenhouses, too, don't you, Leaf?"
_____She gives Vilviren a lick across the face and then turns on you expectantly, straining in Vilviren's grasp. "No, no, don't bother them, Leaf! Ah, I'm afraid she's this excitable because I have promised her we'd play after I've finished my work," the Wildclaw says apologetically. "You can stay if you like, though! Or I can show you where to go if you'd like the next leg of the tour."
_____He gently stirs the butterflies off your shoulders before leading you through the door and down another pebbled path, Leaf hot on your heels, to the far edge of the cliff. Here, the trees reach precariously outwards, seeming as though they would fall should a bird perch on their boughs. The day is clear now, and the ocean glitters off to the east, with the great spires of the Crystalspine Reaches in the distance.
_____Vilviren points out a meadow amongst a sea of trees. Even from here, you can see spots of colour bursting from the green. This clan seems to quite like their flowers.
_____"Someone will greet you over there. Don't worry, they're all very nice. And you are welcome back any time! We could always use help around here," Vilviren beams and waves as you depart.

There’s a rustling at the entrance to your lair, the sound of curious sniffing accompanying the noises of movement. The culprit soon waddles around the corner and you can see that it is the newest adopted addition to your lair. As soon as they see you, their ears perk up and they bound over, dropping at your feet their favourite toy as if to say, “This is mine! I will let you look at it because you're nice and I like you!” It’s very cute. You feel as though the two of you will get along very well.

Thank you for adogpting this corgi and giving them a home. Your support of Wind is really appreciated!

It was a beautiful morning; light glinted off the rippling surface of the seas surrounding the Crystalspine Reaches, and the Starwood Strand seemed to glimmer in the sun.
Vilviren overlooked it all, wings fanned out from his body, soaking in the sunlight. It was windier than usually at the Greenhouses, the breeze bringing the wonderful smells of water and greenery. Leaf seemed particularly content, rolling happily in the grass by his feet.

The day was so clear that he was able to see right across the stretch of water that separated the Crystalfall Isles from the Windswept Plateau. The expanse of green did indeed seem particularly festive today. He almost thought he could hear music and smell the marketstalls, though it was probably his imagination. Regardless, it was infectious.

"Hmm," Vilviren glanced down at Leaf, who flopped on her back, gazing up at him with her tongue lolled out and head tipped to the side. Her most winning pose. "Did you want to visit, Leaf?"

She wriggled enthusiastically, tail a blur.

"I'll see what I can do, then," Vilviren looked back across the water, the prospect of what lay across it very exciting.

The Plateau was a swirl of motion and sound when Vilviren arrived at the Cloudsong. He didn't think he'd ever seen so many dragons in one place, and they were all whizzing about so fast his head spun. In his arms, Leaf was wriggling once more. She had hardly been able to control her excitement the whole way here, until Vilviren sternly told her he'd leave her at home if she didn't stay still so he could fly safely.
_____Leaf leapt from his arms, turning this way and that. Amongst all of the chaos, she seemed smaller than ever.
_____"Please stay close," Vil said as they began to move through the festival.
_____Everywhere there seemed to be music and dancing; the end of one song would be incorporated into the next, and under it all, a backdrop of whistling wind and windchimes. Spirals and Skydancers spun gracefully in the air, in perfect time with the music.
_____Leaf snuck a curious glance at Vilviren, who looked bashful. "Oh, I don't know how to dance, I'm afraid," he confided in her.
_____"Don't know how to dance?!" Vilviren jumped a foot in the air as a vivid green spiral peered over his shoulder. "Nonsense!"
_____"Eh-? No, no, I really-"
_____"Just give it a try!" The Spiral encouraged, a wide grin lighting up their face. "No one will think you're silly for trying."
_____Leaf seemed delighted as she swirled about Vilviren's feet.
_____"Take her with you," the newcomer suggested, "What better way to see the festival than to be a part of it!" With that, the Spiral whizzed off, leaving a perplexed Vilviren in their wake.
_____He glanced around shyly and, supposing that he probably knew no one here, scooped Leaf into his arms once more and got swept up in the music of a new song.

Even though he's a Wildclaw, Vilviren has no hunting skill and can't stand the sight of animal corpses or raw meat. The sight and smell of blood makes him queasy rather than hungry, so he has to have his meat prepared and cooked by someone else. Though he can't stand raw meat, Vilviren is great at preparing insect and plant based dishes. When he isn't in the greenhouses tending to the butterflies with his dear friend, Raine, he's experimenting with new combinations of flavors that are much appreciated by the herbivores and insectivores of the clan. Raine serves as the taste tester for Vilviren's insect based dishes.
