"You can't get something for nothing, you know."

Halphas was born into a clan in the Arcanist's Domain. Growing up, she was known to be a clever individual who spent as much of her time as she could sneaking into the Observatory and listening to the forbidden knowledge found there. Going home, she would copy them into tomes. These seemed to take on a dark magic of their own, leading many to be unsure if it was what was copied onto their pages which caused Halphas' corruption or if the opposite were true. Either way, by the time her clan decided to move to the Lightweaver's Domain, Halphas was known for being cruel and coldly calculating, only helping when it benefitted her to do so.

In their new lair, Halphas quickly grew bored. Many in her clan knew by now to avoid making deals with her which led her to eventually leave. There were plenty of clans around, after all. One of them would make her a good home and slowly but surely she would make herself indispensable.

One day, Halphas stumbled across the Hotaru Clan, finding the large clan intriguing and full of gullible dragons waiting for her... charms. She spent some time studying the clan, noting dragons she should try to avoid. Loki and Amaros were both quickly noted as being clever enough to catch her, although the former was often busy with a hatchling and the latter could be avoided by simply not drawing the attention of the Council. She also opted to avoid Zelda, as while the younger dragon seemed easily fooled, her fiance's protectiveness and the strength of her magic would make Halphas' corruption harder to conceal.

Instead, Halphas picked Vanwa to be her ticket into the clan. The nocturne's gullible and trusting nature made it easy for Halphas to ingratiate herself. Her offer to help train the clan in turn bought her the good favor of one of the clan's founders and soon her position in the clan was cemented.

She eventually set herself up as a peddler within the clan. Her motto was 'everything has a price' and she collected fairly. Many of the clan's dragons came to sell their goods to her and she would offer them a fair trade in return. When it came to magical favors, though, Halphas refused monetary payments, instead asking for favors of a more personal nature to the dragon asking. A promise to do one thing she would tell them to in the future, the dragon bound by magic to agree, a request to bring her more forbidden knowledge from around Sorneith, and even binding their magic to herself for a period of time, for her to use as she pleased. One of the dragons in the clan she found the most intriguing was Isis. The dragon's corrupted nature and her desperate desire to see her husband returned to her made her an easy target, and Halphas soon counted her among one of her regulars.

Halphas enjoys the feeling of having power over others, often searching out what matters most to them and requesting that from them in exchange for her spells. While she is one of the few dragons in the clan who cares little for its benefit, Halphas doesn't seem to mind that fact. In her free time, she still does train some of the younger dragons, if only to keep the eyes of those with the power to remove her from the clan from turning her way. Since she does not deal with Shade-touched magics, Halphas feels that she has little to worry about from Niflheim and Tsuki, although she doesn't flaunt her magic in front of them.
