Pickering spent his childhood as one of the many unclaimed children flickering about the factory floors of Goldensparc. Especially as a child, he was prone to absent-mindedness, often reprimanded for daydreaming while he was supposed to be attending to a repair in some cramped space or another. His tendency towards daydreaming made him even more at odds with his fellow flight members, bent as it was towards whimsy rather than inventing.

As soon as he could wriggle his way out from under his supervisor’s watch, he made his way to the rugged stretch of coast where the Shifting Expanse met the Sea. There, the mingling of water and lightning dragons meant his enthusiasm for the more esoteric was not only encouraged, it was trained. Spark-born as he was, he couldn’t work in prophecy the way water dragons and a few out-flight exceptions could. He could, however, learn to read the stars and the planets, to predict how those astrological bodies could impact a dragon’s life.

After he trained, he traveled, collecting books and knowledge and refining conflicting accounts into the system he uses today. Even now, settled in Tenebris Grove with Leavitt, he still collects books, now from travelling merchants like Oenone, or the occasional trip to the Colonnades. The pair’s enthusiasm for learning means the Grove now has a burgeoning library, and Pickering is the de facto librarian. After all, he’s more likely to be awake during the day, and less likely to growl at you. Win-win.

Leavitt
An astronomer and an astrologer are an unusual pair, but Pickering and Leavitt make it work by both being uncommonly academic.They met when they both tried to check out the same reference material from a library in Lanternlea Port. A heated argument on who deserved the records of astrological movement more turned into a lengthy discussion about their respective fields. After Pickering bumbled his way around a few astronomy conferences, ostensibly to add more rigor to his charts but really in hopes of bumping into Leavitt, the pair started going steady. The move to Dragonhome was decided by the dry climate and infrequent cloud cover, and the pair have been happily ensconced in an ever growing collection of books and hatchlings ever since.

A shared love for herbal teas and starlight brought these two friends together. While Pickering is happy to chatter away and Aude is more than content to listen, neither can resist a harmless gossip session about the residents of Refuge or the Grove. They can be found tucked away in a comfy spot at either of their residences, or at The Dusty Marigold when Elise hasn’t struck up her one-sided feud against Aude. 43046150p.png
