An astronomer and an astrologer are an unusual pair, but Pickering and Leavitt make it work by both being uncommonly academic. Surrounded by seas of treatises and articles, their hatchlings learn to thrive on a healthy diet of organized chaos with a sprinkling of absolute awe for the universe.

With their parents teaching them the individual stars in each constellation and the finest points of a well-crafted rebuttal statement, these children are well-prepared for a life devoted to learning about something. Some choose to follow their mother’s scientific bent, and others are led down the more mystic path of their father, but all of them can be found on a cloudless night recounting the stories of the stars.

As Xenia's grew, name found herself particularly passionate about the practice of religion. She had no desire to follow in some of her sibling's footsteps and train with a temple or a priesthood, however. Instead, she delighted in studying the variations in worship between different regions. She devoured anything in her parent’s makeshift library that applied - mythologies, histories, even travel guides that mentioned the cultures of respective flights. Now, she wants to study clans on her own time, and answer her own questions. How do the rites for worship of the Gladekeeper during Greenskeeper’s differ when an isolationist clan high in the branches of the Behemoth is compared to a multi-flight clan at the northern border of the Mirrorlight Promenade? How does a clan that lives among the gentle breezes of the Zephyr Steppes portray the Windsinger in their art? And is that different from how a clan that makes their home at the edges of the Twisting Crescendo? So many interesting questions to ask, and she can’t start answering them till she ventures out from home!
