time, every segment of it, was cruel to kronos.

his beginnings were gentle enough - he was born in a small clan in the starwood strand, where time stood impossibly still. at night he would stare at the observatory and wonder what lay beyond the glimmering treetops and slow drip of the universe around him.

so one night, he crept out of the trees, after hours of winding through the bush. the focal point loomed in gentle majesty, and kronos picked glowing rocks off the ground and stared at them in awe.

but the meteors still came, and with it, the writhing black shapes that consumed the very stars above kronos' head. he was young then, but still remembers the feeling of those black claws slicing through the flesh over his ribs, again over his eyes, again through the membrane of his secondary wings.

his flesh streaked with black and his blood mixed with the drool of the beast. he was tiny, he slipped away, but unknown to him, he had been shadetouched.

time works differently for the shade than it does for dragons.

the shade exists at all times. tt exists now, in the future and the past all at once. time is nothing but a plaything for the shade, nothing close to linear, something most dragons would never be able to grasp. the shade exists all though time, from start to finish, all as one mass of squirming black. it knows all that happened and will happen. who dies, died, and will die.

the starwood strand is already slow. time passes slower there, and once kronos was shadetouched, the shade slowly enveloping his mind clashed hard with the strand.

suddenly, kronos could see everything.

every birth, every death, he saw his own life as well as the lives of all he loved swirl before his eyes. it drove him mad, and he fled his clan, still bleeding, back through the forest.

the visions persisted, though he could not be sure that they were visions. he felt every touch, felt every smile, saw every drop of blood. it wasn't right, and he was beginning to hear the whispers.

they told him to stay away from the scarred wasteland, and so kronos went there as fast as his young feet could take him. his wings still in tatters, he could not fly there.

he heard stories of a pair of dragons that could rip the shade from its host. they lived in a lair even he had heard stories of back in the isles, a clan lead by a demon and that eats fully grown dragons alive.

he found them, and they wouldn't let him in, his body becoming more and more sickly, his eyes turning black. but he screamed and he cried and he pleaded until the shadehunters came out to see him.

they removed the shade. it was almost easy; clymene touched her blade to his shoulder and murmured a few words, and when the shade came screaming out, iapetus ate it whole.

and yet, kronos still existed at every point in time, felt his own hatching and his own death and the same time. he sunk to his knees and cried.

without saying a word, iapetus took off his blindfold, revealing cracked, black skin, and tied it around kronos' head.

and thus, he began to train.

Because Kronos was the first member of the Order after the leaders themselves, he is used to and proficient in the standard Runeblade. His own magic isn't that strong, and so he comes in often to get his blade recharged, always a week or so before it really needs it.

nesting - Lucrest, Eggkeeper.

Kronos suffered from a typical contact infection from a hostless Shadebeast, which on its own would probably not have left any lasting effects. However, this Beast infected him in a very Time magic heavy area of the strand, opening Kronos up to the Shade timeline. I have been trying, but I have not been able to reverse the effects. I am beginning to suspect that Kronos may have been harbouring quite a bit of Time magic himself, and that is why it is so hard to cut him away from the Shade timeline.

nekhbet - mate

before he was picked up by the order of runes, nekhbet suffered a shade infection that made the shade believe he was one of their own, and therefore, does not try to attack and does not see him as a host. therefore, he is thought to be of the collective mind, and he is not included in their timeline. nekhbet is the only dragon kronos can look at without seeing every single one of his deaths and every single one of his births. in essence, he is the only dragon kronos can be around without feeling heavy despair. in return, nekhbet's oddity does not deter kronos in the slightest. kronos is often found napping between nekhbet's wings as he works, as it is the only place where kronos' mind calms enough to sleep.
