The established and accepted pain-nullifier potions that Qualia had decided to take for the time preparing and during the games were serving her well enough, fortunately. Curling, or chess on ice as it was known to some, took a great deal of focus, all the niggling concerns of the mundane seemed to fade. It helped that the indoor arena meant it wasn't as necessary to dress for arctic temperatures as it was for some of the other events. A curler needed to choose their course before beginning the glide across the ice with the granite stone. By then Qualia would expect the curler to be focussing on the moment to release the stone, and on setting it turning. After that it would be in the hands of the two sweepers. The third end was coming to a close, and the Light team were shooting the last stone. Their opponents had two stones in house: one central and one on the near-side of the periphery, while they had one at the far-side of the periphery. The stone went down, but the angle was off. It hit the nearer of the two opposing stones, and while it was taken out of the scoring rings, their opponents kept their central stone and won the end. Qualia shook her head. Indicating that they should brush it off. At least seven more ends remained till the game was over. During the following end, the team managed to knock an opposing stone out of the rings and, with some frantic sweeping from their player at the far end of the ice, send their stone sliding into a promising position. Each team had a stone in front of house impeding any route to it. Qualia watched to see what move the other team would make in response.

Her mate, Kelran, had been pushed into attempting the Ski Jump many years ago, but so far, the Mirror had completely sat out the Winter Games. Well, that was all going to change right now. Gazer would prove that she could compete with the best of them. That said, she almost had second thoughts as she pushed herself up to the starting gate and felt a blast of arctic wind hit her right in the face. As much as she had bundled herself up to stay warm, somehow it never seemed to be enough around these parts. Still, Gazer would steady herself, gripping her ski poles as tightly as she could. As soon as the gate was flung open, she leapt through onto the steep mountainside, and within seconds, she was out of sight!

Most of his clanmates had never seen him in the light, much less the diamond light of winter that bounced off the snow and sparkled in his fur. They couldn't stop from staring as he put on his goggles and tossed his mane to shake loose some of the snow that had gathered there. He was quite well equipped for cross-country. He had enough stamina to last him till the end of the course and even beyond. His thick, heavy, arctic-evolved fur both insulated him against the cold and weighed his skis down enough in the right direction to boost his speed. He'd put on mittens just for the occasion; they'd help him grip the poles without the cold of the metal seeping into his pawpads. He was finally there, but he'd dropped one of his poles, and while leaning over to retrieve it, his left ski ripped out of the snow causing Baskerville to fall over and the rest of the tundras to have snow flung into their coats. He righted himself quickly amidst grumbling from the other competitors. It would certainly be an interesting event.

The only thing is, the rest of the clan thought as he waddled his way up to the starting line, does he have the dexterity to pull this off? He had gotten his skis stuck in the snowdrifts several times just making the short slide to the line. He was finally there, but he'd dropped one of his poles, and while leaning over to retrieve it, his left ski ripped out of the snow causing Baskerville to fall over and the rest of the tundras to have snow flung into their coats. Just like the arctic circle waits many months for sunlight, Vernal waited for the buzzer. That ear splitting sound would indicate the start of another chaotic decent back to the ground. This was what drew Vernal to the sport. The excitement, the speed, the sharp snow tearing across his snout, was what he lived for. He hated being away from it. Vernal looked at the clock, only 8 more minutes until his team was able to load into their sleigh. The next buzzer would reunite him with his beloved rush of adrenaline. He fidgeted as he watched the other team start their decent. If his teammate and him could get to around 150 kilometres an hour during their run, they should be able to win. He couldn’t wait to taste victory, but mostly the snow blown into his mouth!

She learned early on to use snow shoes and long skis to navigate the frozen substrate, so naturally she decided to enter the winter games of her homeland as a cross-country skier. "The Arctic Scrub looks so vibrant this year" she said out loud as she made her way through the giant snow-covered evergreens. She had fond memories of exploring this very forest, and nibbling on the pale green plant. She stopped to tear off a small piece and took a bite. "Tastes exactly like I remember", she said, munching thoughtfully. Resuming her trek she felt peaceful but energetic, thoroughly enjoying the scenery of her youth.
