He had crashed in what remained of his tent once Cattail had once again turned him away, and with all his pillows and blanket torn up, he had not comfortable bed to lie on. Oh well. He had the opportunity to return everything to the way it was, and he had turned it down. He didn't have the right to complain. Besides, it did no good to dwell on the past anyways. He had to keep moving forward. That was the only way to stop your past from catching up with you: look forward to the adventures ahead. If he wanted any new fun adventures, Quartz would have to go, or else doom and gloom would reside over Windkeep Tower forever. Besides, Luster may be a bad thief, but he was no coward. he would never back down until he had what he wanted, and right now, what he wanted more than anything was to return everything to the way it was before. Before Quartz and Banella took over and put a damper on Windkeep Tower's fun. Before Kipling disappeared. Before Rori got so grumpy and critical. Well, there was no time like the present. It didn't do good to dwell. So Luster gathered up what he could scavenge from the tent, tucked it in a leather bag, and left. There would be no need to return for the rest until this war was won. He did not look back. Luster kept his head low as he slunk back to The Copper Lotus. It had begun to rain again, but it had been raining so much since the Wavecrest Saturnalia that Luster no longer cared. If anything, it was good to feel the cool water slide down his swirling scales. It reminded him that he was alive, that his heart was beating, and that he had a mission. He did not make eye contact with anyone as he passed through the marketplace. He didn't even dare look over at Cattail's stand. His heart still hurt from her rejection last night. He would have to work on patching things up with her after everything, just like he was going to patch things up with Rori now. Nobody else seemed to be meeting anyone's gaze either. A cloud of mistrust hung over the gathered dragons, bustling about doing their business separately. It hung heavily like the dark rainclouds above, amplified by presence of undead guards staggered around the tower. The crowd was thin, visitors and tourists had been few since the Saturnalia ended. He made it through the marketplace easily; nobody dared stop him. Glancing over his shoulder to make sure no one saw him, he slipped into the pantry, ready to return to the hideaway. As he turned to enter the code, he saw a flash of movement in the corner of his eye. He swore he could hear someone gasp. He turned, trying to see who it was, but saw nobody. As he turned to enter the code again, he saw a flash of green from behind a pile of flour bags. Securing his bag on his back once more, he crept towards the pile. As he got closer, he saw a dragon hiding behind it. "Hello? Can I help you?' Luster asked. Maybe she was lost. That was when he saw the three wind eggs she was curled around. His eyes widened. The coatl curled tighter around her clutch as she saw Luster's gaze. "You're not taking them." She hissed, clearly trying to appear fierce. Ferocity however, was not her strong suit. her expression was too gentle to match her tone. "Woah, I'm not here to take your eggs." Luster explained, backing away and giving the scared mother her space. "Do you need somewhere to hide them? I've got a little hideaway in here I'm staying in with my friends, we'd be happy to add one more to our group. Or four." He added seeing the eggs. "No thanks. I appreciate your offer, but we already have somewhere in mind." The coatl said, shaking her head. Then she narrowed her eyes at Luster, tilting her head. She looked as thought she was trying to determine whether or not she recognized the mirror. "Are you Luster?" She asked. "I am! How did you know?" Luster asked. "The bounty call." The coatl explained. "For opposing Quartz and Banella. I'm Xaiya. I'm part of the underground resistance against our new rulers. My mate's family has a... history with Quartz and we figured it best for our children to grow up away from all of that before someone realizes who the father is." "There's- and underground resistance?" Luster asked, perking up. Wait until he told the others! Maybe that's where Kipling had ended up! "Do you want to help me with the eggs?" Xaiya asked. "There's a passageway somewhere here, leading to their base." "Of course." Luster said, emptying some of his rescued trankets from his bag to bag room for an egg. Once he was sure it was secure, he turned to Xaiya. She held the other two eggs close to her body in a cloth sling. "You ready to go?" Xaiya nodded, and began to examine the walls. Now that Xaiya mentioned it, Luster could see some sort of runes or markings indented slightly on the dirt wall. Xaiya traced one of the indents with a talon, smiling slightly at her discovery. Then she took a deep breath, and expelled a wisp of light magic. It glittered and took the shape of the runes, pressing itself to them. The runes glowed stronger and part of the wall disappeared, leaving a passageway the size of a coatl open. "It's sensitive to individual magic signatures. Only those who's magic is registered can find the entrance." Xaiya explained. Luster nodded, for once at a loss for words. He looked around in amazement as he slipped into the tunnel. This was just outside his front door the whole time? As soon as he was through, the entrance clicked shut behind them, leaving them in darkness. Xaiya blew another wisp of light magic, forming a small and glittering trail where they needed to go. Desertstone wasn't certain, but he thought he had seen a certain golden mirror sneak inside. To his disappointment, he found it empty. He wasn't on Quartz and Banella's side, per say, but Kaladin was an old friend, if he could call him that, and a little extra cash to fund his experiments never hurt. That was when he caught a whiff of magical energy. He had trained himself to pick up the slightest sniff of elemental magic, and someone had most certainly been here. That was when he noticed the pile of discarded trinkets on the floor. So Luster had been here. Desertsone grinned as he gathered it up. Perhaps he could get a bit of an advance on his bounty. At any rate, he knew where his next experiment would lead him. Something fishy was going on, and he was going to find out what it was. Winterstone asked. Rori nodded, almost forgetting Kipling had been resting on her head and causing the fae to roll down her snout a little ways before he caught himself. India had shown her the way to the Underground, and she was all to happy to have found her best friend and have a better idea what was going on. "Well, that is certainly good to hear!" Winterstone said with a smile. "We might stand a better chance than I initially thought! I don't know much about moon warriors, but perhaps they are powerful enough to be of help against the undead. And if Eclipse can learn ore about them, maybe we can make more." "That's a great thought, but I think only shadow dragons can become moon warriors." Kipling pointed out. "I'm actually not entirely sure. There is so much we don't know yet." "Well, at any rate, it sounds like Eclipse made the right decision." Winterstone nodded. She opened her mouth to say more when the door opened and a coatl barrelled in excitedly. "Xaiya's here!" Wayuin exclaimed excitedly, more lively than Rori had ever seen Winterstone's mate. That said, she had never spent much time with him. Perhaps he was just shy. "And the eggs?" Winterstone asked, her voice strained with anxiety. "They're safe." Wayuin confirmed, already returning to his usual calm state. "Totally safe. She found someone to help her. A golden mirror. I didn't catch his name." Kipling leaped, confirming he and Rori had the same thought. "Luster!" They exclaimed in unison. "Well, let's go make sure Xaiya and the eggs are settling in nicely." Winterstone said warmly, making a move towards the door. "You two are welcome to come if you want, or go do elsewhere. We'll resume this conversation in the evening." "We're coming!" Kipling exclaimed. "Or at least, I am. Rori?" "Yeah, why not?" Rori asked, feeling a pang of nervousness. She had to admit she hadn't been the kindest to their friend in the past little while. She had let her stress and worry get to her too much, and now guilt wracked her heart. Perhaps that's why he hadn't come home last night. They made their way through the halls until they reached a room Rori had never been in before. It must be near the cliffs, because there was a small crack in the wall, too small for a dragon, letting a sea breeze in. In the center of the room was a nest made of grass and bolstered with bamboo. It was right in the direct path of the breeze, so the eggs would get the elemental nourishment that they needed. Tending to the nest was Xaiya, ensuring that the three eggs were comfortable and secure. She barely even looked up see the new dragons entered. The onlt thing that did cause her to look up was Xinskarr dashing in. "Xaiya! You're here! They're here! Are they safe?" Xinskarr said, kicking up a bit of dust as he raced over to his mate and nest. "They are beautiful!" "Yes, they are safe." Xaiya soothed, wrapping herself around her mate. "They're going to be alright. Luster's going to make sure of that." At the mention of his name, the mirror poked his head up from where he had been hiding on the other side of the nest. He was clearly making sure the bamboo was secure. At the sight of his friends, however, he leaped up and raced forward. "Kipling!" He exclaimed as the fae fluttered down to meet him. Then he turned to the imperial. "Rori! You're... here already..." "Where have you been?" Rori asked. "I was so worried when you didn't return home last night!" "You were worried- about me?" Luster said, clearly taken aback. Rori was hurt at his surprise. She really hadn't been a good friend lately. "Of course you goofball!" Rori exclaimed. "You're my friend!" "Of right, that's what we're calling it." Luster said, but despite his words, a big grin was on his face, "Come here you!" Rori rushed forward and gave her friend a hug. It was good to be back together as a trio again. It felt like a piece of them had been missing. Of course, with Eclispe gone, it still was, but they had scarcely spent any time together the four of them. And Eclipse would be back with time. "Ah, the infamous Luster!' Winterstone exclaimed, stepping up beside the trio. "We'll have to talk later. I'm Winterstone. I'm excited to finally have you aboard!" "The pleasure is all mine!" Luster said, sinking into a playful bow. As he did, the filigree on his head fell off, clattering to the floor. Luster stared at it in horror for a moment, then quickly put it back on. "You saw nothing." Rori couldn't help it, she burst out laughing. It wasn't long before the whole room was filled with uproarious laughter. Even Luster joined in, once his embarrassment had faded. It was good to finally have something to laugh about. ----- Next ----- @CleverDual @Alwaid @zzzhorses @Amezrou @ScrivenerRook @Kizzan @clarax @lilastar @tigressRising @Disillusionist @Aetherstorm @rainphee @RiaFire11 @Tirtouga678 @catmeow1 @ShinyDecidueye @AlchemyFox ----- I didn't have the chance to update yesterday because it was a pretty busy, nonstop day and I was exhausted by the time I got home, and it was far too close to rollover to start a new chapter. Chapter 124: Safe Haven

Luster awake aching.

In the week she had traveled with the ragtag family, the fierce wildclaw had taken surprisingly good care of her broken wing. It was healing quite nicely, though it was far from ready to fly. Eclipse, however, didn't care that she couldn't fly, which surprised her. She hated being incapable of anything--that's why she was on this godforsaken mission--but thanks to The Darktouched Chimera and its crew, her trip had picked up speed despite her injury. Besides, it was nice to have company. There was something comforting about the quirky crew, despite their intimidating appearances and sharp demeanor. She got the feeling that no matter how much they may squabble, they knew they had each others backs no matter what, and they had adopted Eclipse into their little group. Quaid in particular was fascinated by Eclipse and her status as a moon warrior. The wildclaw had hardly left her side since he had set eyes on her bizarre sword, and even more so since learning the strange circumstances of its appearance. "Maybe the sword is a clue!" Quiad exclaimed, not for the first time, as he held it in his hands and examined it. "I mean, that weird wizard guy wouldn't have sold it to you for no reason!" "It was a joke shop, Quaid." Eclipse reminded him again. "And he wasn't a wizard. Not exactly. This sword isn't good for anything but a nightlight. I just keep it for sentiment's sake." "But how would you know that! What if it will unlock a secret when you are in the right place, or turn into a real sword at the moment you need it most!" Quaid offered. "Perhaps." Eclipse smiled. She didn't believe his outlandish ideas, but it was nice to have someone to joke around with again. She missed having her lunar blade. She hadn't had it for very long, but the moment she became a moon warrior it became a port of her soul, tethered to her very being. It was supposed to be summoned on a whim, or when she was feeling a particularly strong emotion, but ever since the elders had locked her in that cave... What she wouldn't do to them if she could see them now. She wondered if her clan still existed in the depths of the Tangled Wood, lingering after the blaze Rori had only just been able to escape. "Seriously though." Quaid said, interrupting her thoughts. "Thank you for crashing into our boat and bringing us on a new adventure. Yes, I'm sure dethroning Quartz would be fun but Windkeep Tower is so boring and we always stay foooooreeever when we visit. Sure, it's fun to get into trouble and have my sister get me out of it, but there's only so many times you can bug a sibling." Eclipse laughed. "I mean, I wouldn't exactly call crashing into your ship a good thing." "Well I think it is." Quaid insisted. "You think what now?" Pyrite said, flying down to the two younger dragons. "Oh nothing." Quaid said quickly. Pyrite raised an eyebrow, but didn't question it. "We should be landing in the Tangled Wood tonight." He told them. "I'd say stay out of trouble, but I know who's kid you are." He added to his son. "Me, trouble? Never." Quaid grinned. "We're just going to have some good old fashion fun." "That's my boy." Pyrite said, eyes sparking knowingly. "What are we going to do?" Eclipse asked as the older wildclaw walked away. "Oh nothing." Quaid said. "He just knows we're about to visit my favourite flight! The flight of tricksters." The two dragons carried on their conversation well into the evening. As the Tangled Wood drew closer and closer, Eclipse could feel her heart pounding harder in her chest. It felt like ages ago that she had last visited the flight she was born in, even though not that much time had passed. For her anyways. She couldn't help but wonder what they would find in its depths. Would they find what they were looking for? Or would they find something else entirely. ----- Next ----- @CleverDual @Alwaid @zzzhorses @Amezrou @ScrivenerRook @Kizzan @clarax @lilastar @tigressRising @Disillusionist @Aetherstorm @rainphee @RiaFire11 @Tirtouga678 @catmeow1 @ShinyDecidueye @AlchemyFox ----- So, a bit of filler to check back in on Eclipse and her travels! I will be posting the chapter I intended to post yesterday tomorrow instead, as I will be delaying my nest hatching to after work so I can hatch it with a friend who also has an exciting nest to hatch.

Chapter 125: Traveling Companions

36377357_350.png

Plagueheart had been right, she did know her survival skills.

"I mean, that weird wizard guy wouldn't have sold it to you for no reason!"

"It was a joke shop, Quaid." Eclipse reminded him again. "And he wasn't a wizard. Not exactly. This sword isn't good for anything but a nightlight. I just keep it for sentiment's sake."

"But how would you know that!

Sure, it's fun to get into trouble and have my sister get me out of it, but there's only so many times you can bug a sibling."

Eclipse laughed. "I mean, I wouldn't exactly call crashing into your ship a good thing."

"Well I think it is." Quaid insisted.

"We're just going to have some good old fashion fun."

"That's my boy." Pyrite said, eyes sparking knowingly.

"What are we going to do?" Eclipse asked as the older wildclaw walked away.

I can relate to Eclipse, though. I'm sure her having to come back to her birth Flight after those events -- not to mention the time skip -- is pretty nerve-racking.

I thought it would be fun to give Plaagueheart and Pyrite a child that was more like them in terms of adventuring and priorities! (Plus, after a regened Plagueheart, I had to keep one of their new kiddos!)

You have good timing there. I was literally just coming to the thread to write today's chapter when you posted your comment!

Despite Amberlyn and Carmen's attempts to keep it burning as brightly as usual, it was as if it reflected the spirit of the dragons below. It was only a flicker, still there, but weak. Everyone feared it would go out, and that that would be the day Windkeep Tower truly lost hope. Dremasul did not want to let that happen. He may not be an official Keeper of the Flame like Amberlyn or Carmen, but he, like the rest of the Amberlyn family, took on the responsibility of helping keep it lit in any way possible. Firewood wasn't working, it was clearly time for a different method. Dremasul's house was not nearly the size of Amberlyn's after all of its expansions to accommodate her large family, but he didn't need it any bigger. He was the only one here, after all. It had been a long time since he had anyone to share a home with. He was okay with that, it gave him more space to work. Around his small, two room hut were papers and parchment of all shapes and sizes, all detailing last known appearances and habits of Fenn and Elric. The flame had started to dim the day they had gone missing, perhaps once they returned it would go back to normal. Perhaps everything would go back to normal. But Dremasul was stuck. All of the pieces seemed to lead back to the same place. It was as if Fenn and Elric had never left the tower, but that wasn't possible, was it? Surely there would have been some sort of sign, even if they had been killed? He knew Quartz to be a bragger. Wouldn't he want another show of power? His thoughts were interrupted by a knock at the door. "Come in." Dremasul said, rubbing his eyes. The door swung open and in waltzed Rammus. "Hey Uncle Dremasul, how's the detective work going?" Rammus asked as he plunked himself down on the only other seat around Dremasul's small table. "It's the same as yesterday I'm afraid." Dremasul sighed. "Do you have mail for me, or is this a personal visit?" "Both." Rammus admitted. He pulled a scroll out of his leather mail bag and handed it to Dremasul. "Thank you." Dremasul unrolled it. it was written in swoopy pink handwriting, inviting everyone for a ceremony in celebration of the royal children. "Another one?" He groaned. "They are having ceremonies every other week!" "The last one was for Prince Topaz's official announcement as heir, to mark the start of his training. This one I think is to officially start Princess Garnet's training." Rammus sighed, resting his head on the table. "It sure means a lot of extra work for me! Couldn't they just do all three ceremonies at the same time? I'm sure by this time next week I'll be handing out invitations for whatever they're going to have Prince Sapphire doing." Dremasul smiled at Rammus in pity. "But anyways, enough about me. Work is work." Rammus said. "What about you? How are you going to get out of this dead end?" "I don't know. I'm sure I'll work my way out of it somehow." Dremasul yawned. he had hardly gotten any sleep since he started trying to put together the pieces. It hadn't helped that every time he closed his eyes, he was awoken by nightmares of his dark past. He had been in the service of too many powerful dragons to believe the new rulers wouldn't take advantage of his abilities once they got wind of them. "First off, you need more sleep." Rammus instructed. "Seriously, you can't function like that. Secondly, you know you don't have to do this alone." "You all have your lives and jobs, I'm not bringing everyone into this. It's enough of a risk as it is." Dremasul sighed. "I'm not talking about everyone." Rammus said pointedly. "I'm talking about one dragon in particular." "You don't mean-" Dremasul trailed away, unable to say the name of his ex-wife. "Come on, you two have been avoiding each other since she got here years ago. You can't avoid each other forever." Rammus confirmed. "Besides, Aunt Draxxor has abilities that would really help you and your search out. I'm not trying to get you back together, just pointing out something that might help." Dremasul had to admit Rammus had a point. Draxxor's soul-reading abilities would come in handy, and if Fenn and Elric hadn't truly left Windkeep Tower and instead were locked away somewhere, she would be able to find them better than everyone else. "Maybe I'll go talk to her." Dremasul said, crumpling up a spare piece of paper anxiously. "Great! Because she's going to be here in about 5 minutes! I told her you wanted to talk to her!" Rammus grinned, getting to his feet. "What?! Rammus, wait!" Dremasul called after him as he started for the door. "I've gotta go, Uncle Dremasul, these invitations won't deliver themselves!" Rammus called out. And with a thunk, the door closed behind him. "I don't-" Dremasul trailed off, realizing he was gone. So, Draxxor would be coming here? Gosh, the place was a mess. He'd have to do something about that. As he hustled around, trying to organize his papers and everything, he caught his reflection in a mirror. Gosh, he was a mess! Rammus was right, maybe he did need more sleep. If only there was a way to fix that. Oh, if only he had more time than this! He didn't want Draxxor to see him like this! But all to soon, there was another knock at the door. Wringing his hands, Dremasul went to answer it. "Hello, Dremasul." Draxxor said simply, glancing around the still cluttered room before meeting his eyes. She seemed to stare deeply at him for a while, before Dremasul remembered she could see his soul now that he had it all back. "Hello!" Dremasul squeaked. After all these years, he still wasn't used to it. He guessed cleaning up really was pointless, he couldn't clean what was in his soul as easily as his face or his house. He wondered briefly what she saw. She gave no indication of whether it was good or bad. "Rammus told me that we are both on similar quests." Draxxor said, still keeping her cool. Dremasul would see her lifeline beating quickly, she was more nervous than she let on, and that put Dremasul more at ease. "You're looking for Fenn and Elric too?" Dremasul asked, surprised. He didn't know why he was surprised, it wasn't like he and Draxxor went out of their way to keep up with one another. "Of course. Windkeep Tower is not the same without them, and I have experience in... tracking." Draxxor paused, and Dremasul filled in the blank. Draxxor had mentioned before joining Windkeep Tower she had been somewhat of a vigilante ridding Sornieth of those who were dark of soul. In fact, if he recalled correctly it had been trying to take down Quartz that landed her in his prison and brought her to Windkeep Tower in the first place. "Then we should combine skills, and work together." Dremasul suggested. "If you want to, of course." "It is the most reasonable course of action." Draxxor agreed. Dremasul couldn't help but miss the way they had once spoken, cycles ago, without all this formality. But he couldn't undo what he had done; that was something he knew well. He just had to move forward as best he could from here. "Great. Where do we start?" Dremasul said, offering a small smile. @Petall XD When I read that bit about Dremasul having notes scattered around his office, all I could think of was that meme with the guy with maps tacked up on the walls. "Clues. Clues everywhere."

Also, Rammus was totally awesome in this one. "She's going to be here in about 5 minutes! Rammus OUT!" *jumps out the window* And it was really cute how Dremasul was trying to clean up right before Draxxor's arrival. That was a nice touch. :'D
