@Sinjin Man, I tell ya, writing and editing my haiku has been a journey. I don't know where my brain's been but I totally looked up the rules for syllables and saw 5-7-5 and even though triple checked still flipped it to 7-5-7. Only for that tool to flag it as you stated and me to realize somehow what I wrote was 7-7-5. I was wrong twice over =_= (and I triple checked!)

All that to say it is now edited, and thank you so much for giving my forgetful brain the opportunity to do so <3

Edited entry

I triple checked again...hopefully I haven't done something similiarly confused lol.

Also, just an aside, Alkonosts is soooooo beautiful. Great genes and an even more awesome outfit to go with! I'd love that skydancer even if he wasn't an XXY G1!!!

Why, so many dragons were coming, so many new friends from all, all over! The same thing, come smiles or frowns. They all, too, loved poems. What a dream come true! He grinned up at an elder guardian with a smooth, rolling voice, shook hands with a pale-white glimmering wildclaw draped in elegant veils, thrilled an array of notes in response to the strummed strings of one dragon's harp. Which was silly, in Alkonosts' eyes— could they not see he was simply enjoying the poetry like anyone else? Well. Entry:
Twisted forms and battered souls,
Empty eyes, and strength's dire toll,
Shattered limbs as spirits break,
How much more can a soul take?

A solace found in soaring words
Joy sung soft for frightened herds.
A clash of wills in bitter song,
A fire kindled, small but strong.

A single soul shields memories
From time's deep past which he flees.
From place to place he sings their doom,
In bitter heart, a walking tomb.

Yet one day the soul must rest
In other lands, bright and blessed.
His songs of woe are met with light,
And hope revealed in bitter night.

From sullen darkness into day,
A long lost soul has found his way.
Though songs of sorrow still come true,
Songs of hope are sung anew.

Entry:

tree-bending wall-creaking
wind through whistling rain
rattling dusty windscreens in windows
breathing in their tracks with
every passing gust and squall

you could have hid under piles
of blankets and pillows but edge-teetering
breathlessness enraptured, captured you,
when you asked the storm questions
and it answered back

bow your head and bare your neck
to air made better with touch
an invisible friend toying with your hair,
petal and leaf showering days
saying listen, listen, listen
to breath not your own

make fear your best friend and
you'll never be alone.

@Sinjin A question for whenever you have a moment.

I realize why our poems must be in English, of course, but I'm wondering if it's okay to include a few (admittedly repeated) lines of a made-up language/code.

I would include a note at the beginning that the "foreign words" are there as a pretty, nonsense version of call-and-response passwords memorized between the two characters. Their existence is important, but the meaning is not. As such, I felt writing them in English might be confusing within the poem's narrative.

It's just a block of language-like syllables to prevent the reader from focusing on translations that won't make sense in the context of a poem, but were made clear within the context of the characters' actual story.

That being said, if even this falls under breaking the "English only" rule, I will have a think about how to rework it without, no hard feelings.

Entry Title: The Parts We Loved

Entry:

You loved the way the light
catches on the leaves,
the Sun illuminating them overhead
lighting them up, vibrant green.

I liked the dark spots,
closer to the middle
where the leaves overlap
again and again and again
until there is no light there at all.

You pointed out the breeze
that scattered the dark spots
so light poked through like stars.
I came to love that the most.

Its different,
watching on my own.
All the colours look the same.
They blend together,
murky green
and there's no part I like at all.
