Veilspuns need a gene pair that darkens a large portion of their primary without adding accents. Every other breed has at least one. Moderns have python, banes have candycane and gaolers have phantom. Jaguar and alloy also work in most colors. For every other breed there are options for this.
If I want a veilspun with a dark purple primary and no pink to it the best I can do vipera, which really doesn't have much coverage and second best is basic. Every other gene either adds an accent color, or has patches that are lighter than basic. This seems especially awkward to me bc veils are a shadow breed. (I'm talking mostly about purple bc I was trying to scry a good veil shadow rep, but I don't think most of the other color ranges are much better.)

How about this: fish scales! Displayed on a Tundra because they are the least scaly regular breed. I really want a primary gene that doesn't darken the base colors, but shifts the hue instead. Similar to Iridescent. Depending on the color, it can be more or less vibrant and contrasting. Here are Auburn, Spearmint, Ultramarine and Pistachio.

This would be awesome on all breeds, and very different from what we have!
Also, Petals & Iridescent for Veils with their secondary counterpart ^^
I SUPPORT THIS SO MUCH omg. Also the style of this mockup is great, the kind of hq visuals that I have been wanting for FR to implement more as the site matures!

Now that we have Koi, we need this so much more! I feel like the secondary could be either scales like the body, or something like transparent fish fins (ala Bee, but different of course). Maybe like if you mixed Iridescent and Bee together.
But yes, please give us fish-scaley bodies. Koi is wonderful, but this would be perfect to go with it
We definitely need something like this to pair with the new koi gene. Could be called fishnet or weave

One thing that I thin would be good would be like a Cheetah pattern, normal spots with a striped tail.
maybe a gene called Fuzzy? It would make any dragon, no matter breed (except ancient) would be fuzzy, and maybe a gene called longhair, which is the same thing but if gives the dragon etra poof. this would also be good for a tertiary gene.
Tabby, jus ta tabby pattern.
and last but not least:
Shepard! it would kind of just be like a German Shepard pattern, the gene color would be the black/top part of the Shepard's coat!

How about a checkered gene, kinda like the Madagascar giant hognose snake? They have a beautiful checkered pattern that would also make for some interesting primaries with the accent colors (kinda like how crazy python and lionfish can get with their accents!)

What about a gene that looks like kenyan sand boa patterns? They're super pretty and splotchy and we don't have any nice splotchy genes yet!

UUUAAAHHHH...so pretty!!
Things I'd like to see as Primary genes:
Dalmatian spots/Appaloosa spots (I feel like we have the large spots from paint/piebald, and we have the minuscule spots from freckle/speckle, but we don't have a medium option)
Feathered/ feather texture
Stone texture
transparent (like neon tetras or other tropical fish) or like the accent: colored ice #21134)
Brindle (like a dog's coat)
Ombre or blended (starting out dark at the feet and lightening as it goes up. It could look like how many animals have darker "socks" or "stockings")
Snake skin (as if they're shedding their skin so it looks a little loose or wrinkled in certain areas, like around joints)
Yarn (looks like they were wrapped from head to tail in yarn or string)
Webbing (spiderweb patterned)

A watercolor gene, multi colored, cloudy patches with a touch of texture on a light/lighter colored base. Probably be a good Baldwin gene.

I made a thread for it but I might as well just crosspost this here :v
Just a concept for either an updated or just a completely separate counterpart to IriShim that leans more into the play of color you see in real-life iridescence!

i absolutely love both of these, support! though the first one looks kinda like koi, i think it'd be distinct because it's more muted :D

I LOVE These!!!!
