@RidgeButch @OrigamiBoat @WolvenWitch @Nightshadaw @TheGodOfStories Hello all! I'm finally pinging you guys with... Character sheets!! And other information. But character sheets. Right here. Right now. (On a related note, just to get it out of the way... If you're no longer interested in the RP, please tell me!! Absolutely no hard feelings, telling me just makes it alot easier for me to anticipate how long I should wait for players and such. Similarly, if you want to wait until certain sections of the Toyhouse are more filled out before you make a character, I can prioritize stuff! And changing character stuff before the RP starts is totally ok.) To anyone not on the priority list/who wasn't pinged: please don't submit a character sheet! I don't want to have to turn down someone with a fully realized character if there's just not enough space [emoji=guardian sad size=1] The following info and links is just stuff you might find useful. And... I'm gonna format it in a FAQ style, because that seems easy to navigate. ----- Q: Toyhouse? Faux-wiki? That sounds like alot of clicking. Can you just give me some handy links?
A: Why yes, yes I can. Here's the link to the wiki thing itself, where you can navigate to all the other sections. Here's a link to the playable species your character and the NPCs you encounter can be; the majority of relevant information is filled out, but questions are welcome! Here's a link to some general... stuff that might be relevant. Weaponry/medical stuff, mostly, but it's not all filled out yet. And, here's a link to the NPC section. Not all are complete, but most are at least partially. If you'd like your character to have a connection to one of them, I'm open to that.
Q: I thought you said there's only one language in the setting. Why is there... Not?
A: Multiple reasons. But, first off, it's just safe to assume that all the languages in this setting are the same as the ones on Earth, save for a few extras. However, while people have a knowledge of these languages (and often how to read/speak the ones of their region), they're just not really spoken...? They could be, but essentially we're going to work under the assumption that there aren't really language barriers between anyone on land, and we're auto-translating anything that might be said. But the legacy of words and languages are going to be seen in the names of people and places, and accents and such. Looking through the names and such here, you'll probably notice some trends. We're in the fantasy Americas, of course, but, more specifically, we're kind of in fantasy Latin-America! Probably more like Texas geographically, but... Well, y'know. Fantasy. History. If you're curious about how I went about naming characters and such (just in general, or to fit the naming trends you'll see), I'm happy to share!
Q: Cool! You're making me, a disembodied asker, sound very intrigued. Why not tell me about some of those locations you mentioned?
A: I have a few specific locations planned out, which you're 100% able to have a character be from, but your character can also be from anywhere else. If you want your character to be from a certain type of place, I can help out with that; for example, if you want a big industrial city, I can flesh out a big industrial city for you. But I don't mind just having a hometown or something be vague, y'know? (Plus, anywhere on the American continents is basically free reign to have a region that mirrors it, it just might not be nearby.) > Anyways, onto the locations! The first place is Purgatory Ridge. This will be the main/starting setting of the RP, so, even if your character isn't from there, they need to have a reason to be there. It's a somewhat large town in the shadow of a mountain ridge also called Purgatory Ridge, and tends to draw in a lot of travelers and homesteaders in need of supplies. It's right about halfway between two major train stations (as the bird flies, so it's not actually near any railways), and lots see the appeal in just cutting across alongside the mountains. And the terrain and relatively close woodlands make it a hotspot for outlaws to hide away nearby... Or seek refuge within, thanks to the religious building within which can protect them from the local law's justice. Due to the frequent travel, most in the town make their money from their own stores, though the town's casino is always just as enticing a source of income. Most live in their shops, but a few successful houses also populate the town's outskirts, and some have found themselves forced to lodge in one the towns' hotels or inns alongside the frequent travelers. > Next is Prosperidad- a city you only go to with a purpose, or when there's nothing left. Reachable by train, plenty are enticed by the story of riches and fame won from gambling, performing, and crime alike. Paved roads lead one down streets of neon lights that barely conceal the vice all the city's splendors were built on. But hopeful performers still flock there, typically able to find respite from the darkness in the embrace of the everyday, ordinary people who populate its less glamorous areas. And it's not as if no one from Prosperidad has ever risen to fame... > And last, but... vaguest, is the Evening Isles. While containing different countries altogether, these islands and their languages and culture have been incredibly influential on these lands over the years. Known for their exports, architecture, the romantic gaze which the world seems to cast upon them, and more, most are surprised at the culture shock still possible after so much intertwined history.
Q: Any miscellaneous information?
A: Absolutely! > It's the wild west, but the comparative time frame is, like, 1830-1920s, edging into the 1930s. Cowboys are very cool, but if you're not feeling cowboy, you don't have to go cowboy. Nor do you have to go combat... > I've been thinking about magic, and... Honestly, learning to shapeshift is probably a possibility? But you'd really have to justify it to me if you wanted it as a character ability. > Terms like "gay," "transgender," "ace," "bi," "pan," etc., etc., are all used in this setting pretty casually. However... "Lesbian" is actually different. "Labyrin" (la-br-in) is the term used, but in this region some people might also say "laberin" (la-be-rin). Just because Sappho and the isle of Lesbos wouldn't exist... So it's instead based on that double-headed axe and the word labyrinth. Butch/femme are still labels that are around, too. > Oh, neopronouns are 100% fine for characters (and explicitly supported in canon for some species). Same with characters of any gender using any pronouns, traditionally "gendered" in a way or not. I say this both to put you at ease, and to tell you that I have NPCs which do both these things, and will likely have more in the future. That being said, I'm going to be forgiving for slip-ups and such, and would hope you'd afford me the same! As long as there's no ill intent. Hello all!
And changing character stuff before the RP starts is totally ok.)
To anyone not on the priority list/who wasn't pinged: please don't submit a character sheet! I don't want to have to turn down someone with a fully realized character if there's just not enough space

The following info and links is just stuff you might find useful. And... I'm gonna format it in a FAQ style, because that seems easy to navigate.

Q: Toyhouse?
Hey there! Normally I would have totally participated, but recently I've been kinda taking a hiatus from roleplaying in general. Feel free to give my spot to somebody else.
