What a lovely opening ceremony from the official event announcers! This is our first year participating in the Winter Games, and what an event folks! Most of us, myself included, have never even [i]seen[/i] snow, yet alone some of the feats of draconic skill we will see here this week in the competition! As always I'm looking forward to keeping all the folks at home on the edge of the action! The Winter Games here feature a week of competition and opening today is the downhill skiing portion. They've set up a series of markers competing dragons must weave around as they race down the mountain for the fastest time! Fortunately for us, our representative hails from the frigid slopes and she says she often goes mud sliding in the woods to practice. Indeed, Frostbite from our very own Permafrost Construction crew will be representing us today! [center] [url=https://www1.flightrising.com/dragon/31396757][img]https://www1.flightrising.com/rendern/350/313968/31396757_350.png[/img][/url][/center] She's strapping on her skis now, and as you can see folks, they're curious contraptions. It appears we have two sets of flat runners, one for the front and one for the back, the back joined by a bar, the front are separate to facilitate steering. I'm told it's a real challenge to avoid getting accidentally wrapped around one of the markers with a spiral's length, so we'll have to hope Frostbite is on her A game today! Sliding up to the starting line now... There's the sign to start, and she's off! Look at her go folks, Frostbite is fast as a willow-wisp wink, and what an incredible display of control as she navigates those markers! She's all focus as she takes the next set, tucking herself in to minimize the chance of getting tangled up, but will it be enough? She zips past the finish but will. it. be. enough. folks??? No telling until we hear the official times from the announcers. But stay tuned, there's plenty more daring displays of downhill dashes coming up!

EVENT 1 - [b]Luge[/b] [url=https://www1.flightrising.com/dragon/47958198]Bolesonth[/url] had put his foot down and refused to respond when his mother started pushing him again to “go for the gold”. He was satisfied with his prior Silver medal - he’d even enjoyed that run! - but didn’t see any point in freezing his feathers off yet again on the chance he might be better. He’d acquiesced last year, and while he had improved as desired and beaten his prior time, more than one other dragon had too! So enough was enough! He’d shown he was “in touch with his heritage” just fine. This year he was there as a spectator, with warmers in his boots and gloves, and looking forward to cheering on WindSky Weyr’s current competitor. [center] [url=https://www1.flightrising.com/dragon/53533295][img]https://www1.flightrising.com/rendern/350/535333/53533295_350.png[/img][/url][/center] Zolamandyath had been in the stands the past few Games, and when she moved to the Windswept Plateau she had already heard the gossip, and looked up Bolesonth before the winter season had begun. She was a fan of sledding. He opened up and told her his story, and she offered to go in his place. He fairly jumped to agree it was a great idea. He warned her about the “glue vine” and not to drink it until afterwards - but she never felt the cold. Then he’d given her a few more practical tips to help her aerodynamically, and left her to train on her own. That was a little disappointing, but he’d promised to be in the stands for the event, and she was looking forward to showing off how well she’d put his tips into practice. She could hear the cheering from where she waited for her turn on the sled, and hoped she’d get some as a first-timer to the competition.

It gnaws at the tips of his wings, and his inner wind does little to fight it. He's nothing like Borealis, his friend and clanmate, who's mane remains unweighted by the glittering frost, and who's fur echoes all the color of the aurora. ... Hmm. Maybe there's a song in that. The Banescale watches with a tilt of his head, but squawks in surprise and drops his lute once Borealis pulls him onto the ice. "C'mon, Piper! Stop starin'." She grins. "We're gonna do some flips with those wings of yours, it'll wow 'em." "... wait, what?" The Banescale blinks, looking terribly confused. "I thought I'd just be cheering you on." "I thought so too, but they accidentally signed me up for pairs, sooo..." The Obelisk laughs with a grin, twirling the Banescale. This will be [i]interesting,[/i] if nothing else. Though from the look in Piper's eyes, she's pretty sure the Banescale thinks they're doomed. He's probably right. But what's life without a little adventure, right? He can't just sit there chronicling everything. Maybe it will end up being a happy accident - one day, the bard will need to have some adventures of his own. This year, their event of choice is ice hockey, and the group of Guardian dragons is busy discussing their tactics and technique. While they might be playing honorably and without unnecessary use of force, their team will certainly be no pushover. ...Now if Flameherald could kindly stop complaining about the cold for even just five minutes, that would be most lovely, please and thank you.

This was their first official game. Like Lily had said, they've been practicing for months, they should do decent enough. All they needed to do was remember what they'd learned and to not use any magic under any circumstances. Scarf is the Goalie. Flamebender and Barley are assigned to stick near her for defense purposes, Noreen, Valoran, and Sam are up at the front for play, and Arev and Xandrez are placed on the sidelines for backup. As the whistle was blown and the puck was set into play, all thoughts left her mind as their first Sornieth Winter Games began. ...[/i] "Scarf, 3:00!" "Got it!" [i]Scarf hit away an attempted goal by the other team, their member slipping away from Flamebender. Barley hit it back up to the front, towards Sam and he worked his way down the field to make a score.[/i] "Yes! We got it!" [i]Shouted Barley happily.[/i] "It's not over yet." [i]Rasped Flamebender.[/i] "We still have 1 more round left and we're only slightly ahead. They can catch up any time." "So what I'm hearing is we got this as long as our heads are in the game. "Correct. OH Shadowb- LEFT!" [i]At that moment Flamebender dove for the puck by Barley, trying to hit it back. His feet slipped out from beneath him and he hit the ice with a crack. Whistles were blown and medics came out, checking for damages on the small Fae. Eventually, it was ruled out they would need someone to cover for him while he recovered, nothing serious but scary nonetheless. Xandrez, their Banescale, got his gear and headed out in his place. The game continues, but with everyone still a little shaken it's hard to say how it'll go from that point forward.[/i] [/columns]

Sunday - Event 1 - Figure Skating [url=https://www1.flightrising.com/dragon/48771919][img]https://www1.flightrising.com/rendern/350/487720/48771919_350.png[/img][/url] Frost struggled a bit due to all the heavy luggage she was carrying. She made sure to take her ice tome off so she doesn't get disqualified for cheating since it was a magic book after all. When her turn came, she made sure to take off everything that was deemed to slow her down. There were a few fumbles when she was performing her tricks. She hoped this wouldn't reflect too poorly on her score.

I'm in a different timezone this year so I might wait until my tomorrow to start entering dragons... took the survey and love the fact that event-first-place winners get fedoras xD Brilliantly on-theme and doesn't break Clan Diamond Dust's bank account!
