Hansel called out, surprised to see his brother flying above the camp. The other obelisk was low enough to hear him, and banked down to land in front of Hansel, grinning ear to ear. "Hansel! Hades told me that I might find you here!" Valoo grinned. "I've been scanning the Scarred Wasteland for you!" "You've been in contact with Hades? How is he doing?" Hansel could not contain how excited he was to see his brother again. It had been far too long. "Same old, same old. Doesn't exactly get out much with his job and all, but he had a sort of gleam to his eyes. I think he's found a new mortal to capture his attention," Valoo said. "Fascinating," Hansel said. "have you heard from Lionel and Cooper at all?" "They're just off on their own adventures, I don't hear from them much, they are hard to track down. Though I do try," Valoo exclaimed. "Speaking of which, you aren't planning on going anywhere soon, are you?" "No. I mean, these challenges are a bit more than I was expecting, the guy who runs it all is a massive jerk, but Hime-" Hansel began to exclaim. "Wait - Hime?" Valoo's eyes widened. "Sorry to cut you off. It's just, I have a letter for a dragon named Hime. Her sister told me to keep an eye out for her, and that there was no rush on delivery. Does your Hime perhaps have a sister from The Refuge?" "I believe that was the name of the clan she ran away from," Hansel mused. "Come on, let me introduce you to her, and then you can relax a bit, and we can catch up." "Introduce me to her?" Valoo raised an eyebrow. "Is it serious?" "Ah," Hansel felt his face flush. "We aren't... together." "But you want to be?" Valoo asked. "Yes," Hansel admitted. "Dude, you should tell her how you feel. Life is short, particularly in the Scarred Wasteland. You clearly care a lot about her, and she deserves to know," Valoo urged. "You have a point. Things are... complicated, but you're right. She deserves to know," Hansel said. "I'll talk to her soon, I promise. But first, I need to show you around my new home and help you do your job!" Valoo laughed. "I found you, didn't I? I think that counts as my job. I get to add a new stop to my route!" Valoo had seemed like a pleasant dragon, and perhaps later she would like to join them, get to know Hansel's family a little, but now she had a heavy letter in her hand. It wasn't particularly heavy in terms of contents, it was clearly a simple piece of parchment in an envelope, but it was more heavy from the implications. She hadn't talked to anyone in her birth clan since she had run away, let alone her sister. Still, the more she sat there leaving the letter unopened, the more heavy it would get, so she cracked it open, and began to read.
Hime, I hope you are doing well. Your mother is worried about you, of course, but I told Gravity that you need your space, and you'll reach out when you are ready. Which, I suppose, may bring you to ask why I am writing you at all. I suppose, selfishly, I just want to know that you are alive, that you are okay. I can't help but feel it was my fault. Everything was. I sold you over to Doben as a prisoner, and I'm the one who shattered your perfect vision of your family. So, while I understand better than anyone the need to get your own adventure, I feel some level of responsibility to make sure you are doing well. I want you to know that I don't blame you for what our mother did. You didn't ask to be born, you didn't choose to abandon me. I suppose I was just jealous because you got to live the life I always wanted. Loved by your moms, protected, cared for. But none of that was your fault. And I want you to know, as someone who got let down by Grannox my whole life, you have someone in your corner. If you ever need to talk, feel free to write me. Valoo stops by the Refuge often, and if you tell him where to meet you, I'm sure he would be happy to make you a regular stop as well. If we ever cross paths again, know that I have changed my appearance. I wanted to distance myself from Grannox too, in my own way.
Warmth spread through Hime, reading the letter. She hadn't expected words from her sister to mean to much, but it was nice to know someone understood what she was going through. Hansel was a big help, and was super supportive and kind about everything, but he hadn't lived what she had. What Quetzali had. It took some time to find a quill to respond with - writing implements were pretty scarce in the camp. But eventually she did, and she was able to scrawl a response.
Quetzali, I'm safe, I'm alive. I've found myself in the Scarred Wasteland. There is a man here - Shui is his name - who is running some challenges with the promise of immortality. He's actually my charge. He is wonderful, and he makes sure to keep me safe. I've also made a really good friend, Hansel. For a while, I thought he was my charge - the feelings I had when I met him felt very much like my moms described finding each other as charges. I still don't know what's going on there, Hansel is still very important to me, I still feel those feelings, I just know now that they are not charge feelings. Sometimes I feel torn between the two - Hansel and Shui. They both want different things. Hansel doesn't trust Shui, and Shui wants me with him all the time. I want to be with both of them, but I can't be in two places at once. But, despite all of this, I'm happy. I've found my place. I'm building my own future that is not built on a lie. She had felt some power leave her, power she had not sent out of her own will. It was minuscule, not enough to be concerning, except that no one should be able to be that. She flew to the top of the Beacon of the Radiant Eye, peering out over Sornieth. Eventually, she found the source. A tiny clan in plague, just a collection of tents around a large skull. And just a little ways away, a field of golden roses, surrounding a white marble tower. Roses that only she should be able to grow. Someone was attempting a ritual, and someone was trying to attempt it without the approval of the gods. The Lightweaver did not want to be rash. After all, the Plaguebringer would not look kindly on her smiting within her territory. Besides, the Lightweaver did not seek to punish - yet. She just wanted to know the truth. What was really going on there? If it was a ritual, she would have reason to be concerned, but she would need proof to share with her siblings. Summoning some of her power, the Lightweaver began to shape the magic together, forming an emissary, and angel. Someone who could be her eyes for her, who could seek the truth where she could not. For those who did not read Beneath the Boughs, Mail Days happen after each festival, and are an opportunity for readers to participate in lore if they want! If you have dragons that your dragons are connected to that you want to send mail to, you can send me letters through DMs thoughout the month and I will write them into the mail day after each festival. There is no pressure to send in letters though, if you don't want to. I will also write letters between my dragons, so I can function without any letters sent. Just know that it is an option if you are interested! Also, this is the introduction to how I am going to do my elemental egg hatches that I do for this locke. In Beneath the Boughs, eggs spawned randomly. For this, each hatch is going to be a messenger or servant created by the Eleven in order to do their work. One last thing, shout-out to Lixue for drawing some art for me! I have added it to the fanart section on the first page, which is a new addition to this locke (I have never had a fanart post before). The section will be for any art or edits involving characters or events of this pinkerlocke. Again, of course I am not expecting people to make art or anything, but know that there is a place that creations from readers will be on display! Having the dragon gods included? Now this is fascinating! Snd I love how Rachel will send an envoy! MKes me excited for lightning (will we get our lightning ancients in time for it)! But what of water? We've been missing Tidedad for so long...maybe he'll finally return in time for that chapter. And also, lovely art! The section for Cure and Ziel is especially cute [emoji=familiar heart size=1]

Aww, that's actually kind of sweet with how Quetzali is still trying to look after her. And it seems Shui's getting some attention with the deities- which I'm wondering if he realizes or not. Probably will either way once Taper arrives.

@Crescentstar711

I'm not sure yet how water will work, but I will figure it out! I'm excited for this new element of the locke!

@Lixue

I always knew I would bring back Quetzali, as long as Hime is alive, as a support to her. I'm not sure how much she will appear, but I know that she will!
