Our story follows Anzu, a Guardian born in the Nameless Clan, who has struck out into the world to find his Charge. And find them he does... but he also finds something else. Something big, expansive beyond imagination. A place for not just Anzu and his Charge, but for an entire clan to make their own - so intimately connected to the nurturing heart of the Behemoth that, surely, the Gladekeeper herself must be protecting them.
Welcome to my third Pinkerlocke! This is a sequel, of sorts, to my first one, Nameless, but most of the characters of Nameless are in their original clan and won't appear much in this story. Although there might be exceptions and easter eggs later on...
This Pinkerlocke will mostly follow standard rules, which can be found here. A few modifications will be made:
- Breed changes may be applied before a dragon is introduced to the story, and then retconned, if I want. Otherwise, all genes will happen in conjunction with apparel pulls as normal.
- For a familiar pull I will choose to get them as an adult instead of a hatchling, unless I want an actual hatchling to show up.
- A rule of Petall’s that I like and am stealing wholesale: If a dragon is below the required level for a coliseum venue and they die, a random number generator determines which dragon will take their death. All dragons, including hatchlings, are eligible, including the dragon who fell in Coli. This is to prevent only new dragons dying should the rest of the clan be level 7+ and to increase the difficulty of the locke at higher levels.
- Bought art counts for art pulls, but I'll try to at least do something myself because to me that's kind of the point.
- If I don't have any genes to apply or established pairs to breed when an apparel pull happens, I can: bank it for later, add a skin or accent as if it were narratively gene-like, (this is not limited to apparel pull times though), or hatch an egg. If I have a gene plan but can’t afford it, I will foreshadow it if possible and then apply the gene as soon as I can.
- When a dragon pair is going to be put on a nest, I will roll a d4. On a 1 or 2, it's a normal Nature nest. On a 3, it's also Nature, UNLESS it's laid during or very close to an elemental festival, in which case it becomes that element. The result of a 4 will be left a surprise until it actually happens :)
- If I get a hatchling with primal, multi-gaze, or faceted eyes, I can choose to switch its coin flip results with one of its siblings - unless none of its siblings would have survived it either, in which case I can just say it lives.
- I seriously doubt that I'll be writing for this every day, especially with school and with the fact that I'm still writing for the Hermitcraft fandom over on ao3. My goal is two or three days a week, like with my old Pinkerlockes, with pulls grouped together on certain days as I see fit. I won't be using this as an excuse to skip pulls, but I will probably be keeping behind a few days - I always did like knowing at least a couple pulls ahead of where I was writing so I can foreshadow and such.
- I'll start out with the full Coli time for each food pull but if I get too busy that might go down to half. This does not apply to death streaks.
Another thing that I'm
Thank you to all my readers, new and old, and thanks especially to Petall for your Pinkerlocke inspiring me to start up again (writing really is just a little feedback loop with other writers, isn't it?). Also, @Oranitha and @Nelsothy, your lore discussions inspired the setting! You two let me know if you want to keep following the story, otherwise this will be the last time you get pinged to this thread
