For the most part the weather is looking a lot more manageable than it was earlier. The conditions to make it up to the top are promising enough that the general consensus to move on is shared amongst everyone. Though the weather looks good enough to travel, the wind begins to blow loud enough that a dragon that was not paying attention would get easily irritated or confused at the constant howling, and the talking dragons would find themselves being hoarse after losing their voice in an attempt to talk over it. [rule] Maolin, Firefly, Eirostle For one reason or another, it was decided that a group of six dragons was just too much to keep track of on this expedition, whether out of annoyance of rookie mistake, or because huddling up in such a tight space would make anyone annoyed for long periods of time and there was no way of knowing just how many more of those sort of situations would occur or if the spaces would get smaller. After the much needed assistance from Eirostle's experiment of what exactly it felt like to hang off of the cliff, Firefly and Maolin decided to break off into a group with him and watch his back, wanting very little to do with the dragons that seemed less than sympathetic about his situation. The three of them decided to hang back within the sheltered rock pile, and even though Eirostle initially objected to the idea of being within a group, the weight both literally and figuratively of the situation would be too great for even his adventurous spirit to take on, and he needed a moment to recover from what just took place. With the harsh conditions of the snowy mountains, Maolin laid under the rock comfortable, her fur and outfit keeping her relatively warm, though she noticed very quickly those around her shivering if ever so slightly, and began to check her bag to find that someone had slipped a warm canister split into sections of assorted food types like plants, insects, meat, and seafood to ensure every dragon would be full on their journeys. She brought this up to the group, and Eirostle also quickly found he too, had one of the canisters with a similar assortment and he held it in his arms to make sure the heat could keep him warm with his lack of fur. Firefly followed suit only to find that for some reason his canister was not there. The bag itself had no holes that it could have possibly slipped through, and he grit his teeth realizing that someone had stolen his food canister. Aware of this, Maolin quickly passed him her canister and he hugged it tightly to keep warm. "Thank you." Firefly squacks, almost with an irritated and thankful tone. "You're welcome." Maolin replies with a smile. Very shortly after and having a bit more of a rest to recuperate, they began to head further up the mountain. The three continue on their climb at the slow but steady pace they were initially hoping for when the journey began, and so much was evident having the latter two be found in the sheltered rock pile they rested within. Taking her turn in the conversation, Ranita begins to share tales of her home, and growing bored of the discussion and the amount of snow, Taibre sighs and begins to get a bit of a headache from it. Eventually a split in the path troubles the group, and almost to prove a point of Ranita's stories, a Spirit of Ice who resided within the mountains swooped down. Johanna took a step back, somewhat concerned it would be there to attack, but instead its head turned directly towards them and it landed on a branch leading to the left. Out of curiosity, one of the three picked up a nearby twig and tossed it to the other path, and as it landed there was a sound of cracking ice as the path slowly shattered and disappeared, taking the twig with it. "That was a close call..." Johanna points out, turning on her heel to head towards the opposite path. "Yeah... Thank goodness for that bird!" Taibre and Ranita chime in in agreement. The three head up that pathway to find somewhere that might be considered a checkpoint for the night. They begin to start some chit-chat about their lives, Carmeline sharing her theories about the mountain and just what creatures might lie within its depths or heights. Shiver listens intently, not really caring about the curiosities Carmeline has to share, but instead thinking of the winnings at hand for herself whenever she would make it to the top. As the two continue forward, not much attention is paid to it when the pathway gets more and more narrow without anything along the sides. Carmeline walks on the inside of the path closest to the rock as Shiver takes the outside with the thought that if something were to come from in front of them she would see them in time to be alert and walk forward with caution. The wind begins to pick up, with Carmeline paying little to no mind to the draft with the safety of the rock shielding her from the worst of it, though Shiver finds herself fighting a losing battle, and her claws begin to slip in the snow, eventually resulting in a nasty fall, as she begins to roll backwards and snow forms around her taking her back down the mountain. Carmeline frantically scatters through her tool kit to find something, anything to help! But is unsuccessful, and Shiver disappears in the fog of the snow. Carmeline calls the medical team using a distress call the host taught them shortly before making their way, and continues on her journey hoping for a swift recovery to her short time partner. Amongst themselves, they talk about their thievery from the poor obelisk they had left behind. Each sentence added on leading to Mad Lord laughing and shaking the walls and ground as he walked. Reverence looked at him almost with a royal disgust "Come now, it was fun, but not possibly that funny." He remarks, rolling his eyes. Mad continues on, laughing so hard he grabs his belly with much louder chuckles. "Come on, you saw his face didn't you? The shock?! Hahaha!" He thunderously roars, unable to stop himself. The mountains quickly grew tired of this disturbance and laughter, and Reverence could feel almost as though Mad Lord was sabotaging the both of them by continuing on. The ground shook below his feet, and soon, ice and snow began to pour down on top of the two of them. Luckily Reverence had seen this coming and quickly jumped as much as his back legs would allow out of the way, having some snow still covering his hind feet and his tail as he laid there annoyed. Mad Lord, however, wasn't so lucky, as several feet of ice and snow covered him, his head very shortly thereafter popping back out again as he sighed in pain. He dug through the snow to find his bag with the crushed goods, and called upon the medical team to retrieve him and take him back down the mountain. Unfortunately, his adventure was over, and Reverence continued on without him. Bunny double checks to ensure Bakura's injuries are for the most part recovered or on their way to recovery before looking over Aero who seems to find himself rather alright all things considered. They pack up their stuff and continue on up the mountain, chuckling and keeping up in conversation with one another as Bunny remains cautious of her two new hiking buddies. As they continue up, Bunny frantically checks on the other two when slight missteps happen. "Are you okay?" She asks. "Let me help you!" She insists, as the day progresses, Aero and Bakura are fairly certain that Bunny has unintentionally become the group mom, but out of respect remain quiet on the matter, giving each other looks at each of her comments and quietly chuckling to themselves. ----- Sirocco, Uncia While in the beginning, Uncia isn’t quite sure what to make of the little spiral, Sirocco quickly grows on her as they progress on the hike. Sirocco tells her plenty of stories of his many zany adventures he’s gone on! These stories amuse Uncia and make her concerned for his well being in equal measure, causing her to quickly form a protective bond with Sirocco. They both look out for each other's backs as they ascend Sharktooth Mountain. At one point, Uncia spots a frost delver in the distance and leads them both around it; in another instance, Sirocco finds a stash of dry firewood and igniter someone had stashed and forgotten under a bush. All in all, the two find they make a great team! In a thick patch of trees that do a good job of being wind breaking barrier, Uncia and Sirocco set up a fire. Uncia’s wings provide shelter from the wind for both the fire and Sirocco. The two exchange friendly banter, settling in for the night. ----- Bone Collector, Hemlock Bone Collector’s having a bad day. Did he accidentally pee on someone’s favorite bush? Did he flirt with the wrong dragon at the inn a few days ago on the way here? Did he take someone else’s snack on accident? Or did the Plaguebringer really just hate him this much? As if it wasn’t bad enough those imperial brutes had tossed all his things earlier (as hard as he had tried, he only found about half of the supplies that had been thrown to the wind), now he’s already found holes in his boots. He just bought these! He’ll be going back and giving that shoe maker a piece of his mind when this is all done. That’s assuming he survives this, of course. He’s heard dire wolves howling in the distance for a while now, and he’s not keen to get eaten over some stupid flower. He’s having a hard time navigating in this storm, so it’s a miracle at all he sees the glow of the fire tucked in the crevice of the rock face he’s been crawling along the last hour now. Hemlock, who’s been doing a good job keeping his head low at this point, is startled when Bone Collector stumbles into the light of his fire, practically collapsing at the skydancer’s feet. “Uuuuugh, this is awwwwwful,” Bone Collector moans, giving Hemlock a rant about how awful his day has been so far. Hemlock certainly didn’t ask, but between the wolves outside and the rock wall against his back, he was stuck quite literally between a rock and a hard place. Hemlock throws Bone Collector some of his food, partially out of pity, partially to get some quiet for a few minutes. When the Bone Collector takes off his boots to inspect the holes in them, Hemlock looks them over too. “Wait, did someone poke holes in these?” Hemlock questions. “I—wait, what? You mean someone destroyed my boots, on purpose?” “Yeah. These kinds of holes don’t just, happen to a new pair of boots. These are new, aren’t they?” The Bone Collector just nods. “Well, that’s just mean,” he chokes, clearly at the end of his rope. ----- Marina Marina, in her dutiful study of the unique pine tree she found, doesn’t notice the other groups leave, and is surprised to find herself quite alone as she packs up her things. She knows this is a competition, but… something about being caught alone in the howling storm causes her nerves to fray, making her more on edge than before. As she continues her trek up, she’s surprised when she steps on something hard beneath the snow. It feels strange, so out of curiosity she digs it up—is this jerky? She looks around a bit more and finds a few more things—some shoe spikes, a woolen scarf, and some food supplies. She wasn’t sure what idiot might throw all this stuff away, but she’s eager enough to tuck it away with her own supplies. She’ll find some use for these things later. ----- Thus concludes round 2! Maolin, Firefly, Eirostle

For one reason or another, it was decided that a group of six dragons was just too much to keep track of on this expedition, whether out of annoyance of rookie mistake, or because huddling up in such a tight space would make anyone annoyed for long periods of time and there was no way of knowing just how many more of those sort of situations would occur or if the spaces would get smaller. Noooo, Shiver! Thank you for hanging out with my pearlie. If Shiver wasn't interested in Carmeline's ramblings, she was at least tolerant. The Pearlcatcher was thankful for that. Anything was better to focus on than the endless snow and the climb ahead. She imagined the cold would be unbearable if not for the fire that was her birthright. She had offered Shiver her lantern as they walked - Carmeline wasn't sure how much warmth it gave off, really, but hopefully it was the thought that counts. "I do hope we don't find any Stranglers." She wrinkled her nose. "Nasty things, though I'm sure you could tell from the name. Adaptable, though, I'll give them that - subspecies live everywhere from the tundra to the deserts." They weren't her target, she sought things... less catalogued and proven. But they were an annoyance to look out for, at least. It seemed a smidge irresponsible not to have mentioned them during the briefing, now that she thinks back to it... they may not be a threat for most dragons, but Fae or Veilspun could be in danger. She tried to think back as to whether there had been any in the crowd. They could also be a danger for hatchlings, like maybe that tiny Imperial... ... oh gods, they'd accepted a hatchling onto the climb. "What kind of competition is this." She muttered, in turns taken aback and a bit disappointed in herself that she hadn't noticed earlier. Were they trying to get them killed? No, this was just a case of Hanlon's razor. Never attribute to malice that which is adequately explained by stupidity. Not that she felt especially bright, either, halfway up a mountain with no medical team in sight. Okay, she decided to try not to think about how ridiculous this whole situation was. She managed a smile and a secret, as though she was telling a joke. "I was supposed to be undercover, you know. I was chasing a lead on a Frost Hydra - there were rumors of someone in town being frozen solid - but it was just a tall tale. Probably invented especially for stupid tourists like me." She snorted. She could have backed out, but it seemed... what? Exciting? Fun? She wanted to test herself? That was a smidge too embarrassing to admit out loud - she couldn't be wasting time doing silly things like competing for a flower. It was a good excuse to explore the mountain; she'd go with that if pressed.

Firefly heaves a sigh at the response, but he looks thoughtful. “...Maolin, did you bring rope?” Maolin looks quizzically at the skydancer for a moment, then smiles widely. “Ah, I get it. What had been a peaceful start to their morning was broken when Bakura picked up on the sounds of screaming and yelling coming from the cliff side. The trio did their best to get to the source of the yelling quickly, while trying not to slide off the side of the mountain. Looking down the cliff below, they see a narrow ledge with three dragons on it—they all quickly recognize them as fellow members of the expedition—being attacked by a pack of dire wolves. The largest of the three dragons, a blue tundra, is snarling at the wolves biting at her flanks. The cliff is too narrow for her to turn around, and the rope binding the three together is preventing the other two dragons from escaping. Aero jumps down the side of the cliff with little hesitation, shocking both of his travel partners. He use his wings to slow his descent as he lands on top of one of the wolves, using his strong legs to kick it off the edge. The blue tundra manages to kick another one off her flank, and her and her group quickly move forward to try to reach the end of the narrow path. As the tundra and her group clear out, Bakura and Bunny follow suit to aid Aero. Bakura lands behind Aero, and Bunny behind him, as Aero launches himself into the air, towards the middle of the pack, kicking a third one off the cliff side. The pack s starting to falter now, and a few on the far side start backing off towards safer ground, but the wolves between Bakura and Aero only get more violent, pinned between the two dragons. Several gang up on Bakura, grabbing a hold of his supply bag, and he throws it off to get the wolf off him. The supply bag tumbles down the cliff, lost for good. Aero is not so lucky. One of the wolves that backed off doubles around and bites deep into his ankle, causing him to scream out in pain. Bunny yells and throws an elemental bolt at the wolf, but misses; Aero throws it against the wall with his body, causing it to yelp before releasing his ankle. Aero hops over the other dire wolves, Bakura stretching his wings out as wide as possible, trying to make himself look as big as possible to the wolves. He stands in front of the protesting Bunny, shooting an elemental bolt from his hand to scare away the rest of the wolves, which follow Aero back down the mountain. Bakura and Bunny argue about whether to follow—Bakura asserting it’s too dangerous to follow the wolves, and Bunny insisting she needs to go help and heal Aero—but as they bicker on the cliff side, a distress signal for the medical team goes up in the direction Aero fled. The two sit in stunned silence for a moment, before rushing over to find Aero; despite the freshly-laid snow, however, his tracks disappear shortly after he left their line of sight, and they have no way of finding out which direction he went. Feeling sullen and defeated, the two take a moment to process their frustration and grief before pressing back on up the mountain. They would have to trust Aero would get help in time. ----- Marina Marina had been woken by the sounds of howling wolves multiple times last night. Cold and alone, Marina grudgingly collects her things; as much as she wanted to regret her decision to climb the mountain, she still couldn’t deny to herself that the idea of seeing the orchid was too great an opportunity to resist. Still, she also couldn’t deny that the solo climb she’d been doing so far was nerve-wracking in its own right. Every time her foot slipped, every time she looked up and saw icicles hanging over her head, every time she heard some animal bellowing or howling in the distance, she couldn’t help but wonder if anyone would ever find her out here if something were to happen to her. A few hours into her climb, she comes across a frozen river. She takes a pick from her supplies and taps the ice; it doesn’t crack, which she takes as a good sign. After contemplating for a moment, she decides to take those shoe spikes she found yesterday and attach them to her feet. The wind was blowing towards her, so she couldn’t fly over the frozen river, but these spikes could help her cross the ice without losing control. Crossing the river safely, she hears the howling of the wolves again, but coming from far away on the other side of the river. Priding herself in making the right call, Marina continues on. If she continued to make up for lost ground like this, maybe she’d stumble upon another dragon soon? ----- Taibre, Ranita, and Johanna "This weather is making me miserable." Taibre complains to the other two, shaking her head as even the slightest of sunlight made the snow sparkle, making her remember why she had gone out on this adventure. "I... Really shouldn't be up here." She added. Ranita and Johanna noticed their new friend who seemed grumpy and annoyed just the other day suddenly being more filled with a fear of sorts, like the situation with the imperial was a distraction she used to keep her mind off of what was really going on in her thoughts. To help maybe keep her mind off of everything, Johanna spoke up to tell another bit of a story. "You know, I come from a clan of explorers and adventurers! We've gone to visit and take on explorations similar to this one before, and let me tell you snow is really annoying. Its like, how is a dragon supposed to find anything if you have cold white fluffy stuff covering everything?" she said, almost getting into what she was saying. "Everywhere you look the crystals in it can blind you, so even if you can't see, seconds later, BOOM! You need a second to readjust your eyes." Johanna's sudden jump and noise had Ranita and Taibre jumping from surprise, and then all three of them started to laugh at just how silly all of this really was. Truly, what were they doing?! It didn't matter, at least they were having a good time. The three stopped to eat, sitting around and sharing more stories of their past, and when Taibre would speak up, Ranita and Johanna kept their ears open to allow her to say whatever she needed to. [rule] Carmeline With Shiver being sent back to the medical camp, Carmeline found herself alone in the harsh conditions of Sharktooth Ascension. Maybe it was the cold? Or the fact that two sources of howling started to overtake any sounds that once made the mountain feel at least a little bit comforting. So much wasn't evident but she... Really needed to find a group. Thoughts began to overtake her mind, and her nerves were starting to make her think that she was being followed by... Something. As she continued to walk on, she found suspicious tracks that she identified as non-dragon made. It was a wolf... Of some kind, but what kind? Were they more friendly or dangerous? Further investigation was necessary! So at a safe point she could cover herself from being detected by whatever left those tracks, she took a closer look and stopped for the morning to spend some time on it. This whole expedition was crazy, but hey she was learning something and having a good time doing what she did best. [rule] Reverence The past days of the expedition were really starting to get the Reverence as he realized, previous royalty or not, he had been fairly sour and rude to that Obelisk. "What's his name, again? Bone Collector?" He whispered to himself trying to remember. "I was such a jerk, I suppose that's what happens when I'm around other snotty people, huh?". He clutched the crown in his hands, stopping for a moment to look down at it. Pride and determination, two words that helped him make every decision he did for better or for worse. A forgotten king, to a kingdom that faded away long ago. All of his work gone and there he was, alone in a snowy mountain, abandoned by those who were once around him to explore together from stupidity or his wrongdoing. He sighed for a moment before one of the gems on the crown began to reflect some of the light from the sun, and he looked up to follow where it was pointing towards. There was a grey figure nearby... What could it be? "Hey wait up!" He shouted at the top of his lungs before blindly sprinting towards what or whoever it could be. [rule] Sirocco, Uncia The two of them put out the fire, continuing on in their adventure and smiling as Uncia decided it was her turn to tell stories about her life to the young Sirocco. "And that's how I ended up here! To be honest, it wasn't supposed to be me here at first... But I'm glad I did! Because I've had a really good time so far." She said, looking forward to continuing walking on with Sirocco, who was nodding along as he listened, almost impressed at her bravery and willingness to fulfill duty. He admits to the Obelisk that he signed up to this expedition solely on impulse, and begins to mention how much he misses his sister who was probably impatiently waiting for him to get himself home and safe. As they continued talking, growls began to get louder and louder, and soon they both realized that it wasn't the wind anymore. Uncia's eyes widened, checking every direction until the figure of some kind of wolf appeared behind them. "RUN!" She shouted, as a fork in the path suddenly split the two apart. The howling of the creature caused snow to pile up on both entrances, protecting both of them from the danger but splitting the two apart. The wall between them was thin enough to speak through but with how the wind was blowing, neither would safely be able to get to the other without risking incredible danger. "Are you okay?!" Sirocco shouted with concern. "I can fly over the wall to you, give me a moment!" In a moment of panic and concern Uncia shouted back. "NO! Just continue on, I'll be okay! I think I sprained my claw. I'm going to call the medical team and I'll see you when you come back to the bottom. Good luck!" she sighed. "We shouldn't be too far from another group, if you keep things up you might be able to join another one. I'm sorry." Sirocco's interested smile turned to a frown as he continued forward. Uncia sat down as she called the medical team. What irony it was that the same injury that made Yeti unable to participate would result in her losing the chance at such a beautiful flower. Oh well. [rule] Bone Collector, Hemlock Trying to at least help with some of Bone Collector's bad luck, and having come extra prepared, Hemlock digs through his bag and finds snowshoes that he had purchased labeled "one size fits all". Bone Collector smiled, stopping with the Skydancer for just a moment. He took off the shoes with holes, putting them back into his bag to return later as he sighed annoyed. "Thank you... Hemlock." He added, remembering his name from before when the guide went through everything and got dragons names from the introduction. Both of their tummies grumbling, they stopped to eat some of their food they had been given at the start, and Hemlock had a particularly fun time as the local wildlife passed them by walking right by them as if they weren't there. Some of them itched against the rock and trees too, leaving behind furs and pieces of horn or chipped beak from scratching, which the very interested Skydancer collected before they left to continue on. Their time was rather uneventful otherwise, and the howling of the wolves kept them alert and careful of every move to ensure their safety. [rule] Thus concludes round 3!

Taibre, Ranita, and Johanna

"This weather is making me miserable." Taibre complains to the other two, shaking her head as even the slightest of sunlight made the snow sparkle, making her remember why she had gone out on this adventure.

You need a second to readjust your eyes."

Johanna's sudden jump and noise had Ranita and Taibre jumping from surprise, and then all three of them started to laugh at just how silly all of this really was. Truly, what were they doing?! It didn't matter, at least they were having a good time. The three stopped to eat, sitting around and sharing more stories of their past, and when Taibre would speak up, Ranita and Johanna kept their ears open to allow her to say whatever she needed to.

Carmeline

With Shiver being sent back to the medical camp, Carmeline found herself alone in the harsh conditions of Sharktooth Ascension.

Reverence

The past days of the expedition were really starting to get the Reverence as he realized, previous royalty or not, he had been fairly sour and rude to that Obelisk.

Sirocco, Uncia

The two of them put out the fire, continuing on in their adventure and smiling as Uncia decided it was her turn to tell stories about her life to the young Sirocco.

"I can fly over the wall to you, give me a moment!"

In a moment of panic and concern Uncia shouted back. Oh well.

Bone Collector, Hemlock

Trying to at least help with some of Bone Collector's bad luck, and having come extra prepared, Hemlock digs through his bag and finds snowshoes that he had purchased labeled "one size fits all".

Thus concludes round 3! Once again, sorry this one took a little longer to get done. I may have gotten a little too excited writing my sections, hence why it's so wordy this time. This time, I've written the story for Maolin, Firefly, Eirostle, Aero, Bunny, Bakura, and Marina; the rest were written by MidnightMonarch.

I want to make sure you all know I read everything you guys write, both in the PMs to me and in this thread. I love reading all of it over so much, it makes me very happy to know you guys are enjoying it so far! I apologize I haven't had the time to reply to your posts, but know I'm grateful to each and every one of you for participating!
