Biography

....................... YIygyjl.png
We are the children of the Divinity.
We are born in the Living Land
and we return to The High Kingdom
for regardless of Vice or Virtue,
we are yet loved by It.
Even if we are rejected from Its arms,
we can return
once we have learned the way of the Divinity.

Our tenants are thus:
Sincerity and Love

My lore is basically a Sornieth au but with way more historical references and stuff, including a lot of inspiration from Dark Souls and Blasphemous. You can imagine the Sorniethites as human or as draconic as you want, it doesn't matter. Generally speaking, I see the dragons as representations of human characters, but it really doesn't matter.

Dragons in my lair can exist in any of the ages described. I may or may not define precisely which or maybe you'll have to guess idk. dragons have the same typical lifespan and growth as humans because whatever. Dragon names are translated from their native languages.

Homophobia exists, but isn't typically violent in the modern age. It's mostly a class thing, nobles need to be honorably married and produce heirs and Feathers are supposed to be chaste regardless of orientation. Transphobia does not exist at all, nobody cares, idk how transition works, but it do. Xenophobia exists but not really anymore. The Divinity is not a fan of bigotry.
Why do some forms of bigotry exist in this world and not others? those are the ones I want to write about <3

i dont acknowledge beastclans cuz i dont care and dont like most of them anwyay

The Glimmering Divinity is the spark at the origin of the universe. Each of the Eleven Deities the regions of Sornieth worship are part of the greater whole of the Divinity, and are worshipped during their respective holiday. The only holiday dedicated singularly to the Divinity is during the Orationis Aeternam held at the cusp of the new year.
The Eternal Prayer consists of three parts: Confession, Union and Vigil. Confession is an opportunity for the sinful to lay bare the guilt in their Glimmer by reciting their sins to none but themselves. This ritual must be performed in a church, as being surrounded by all ones fellows joined in Confession instills a sense of connection to the Divinity. This feeling is encouraged further by the Union, a celebration of the courage it requires to admit one's mistakes. Clans often hold community feasts, but plenty hold Union in private. At the end of the day, solemn Vigil is kept, always in solitude. It is during Vigil that one may offer prayer directly to It, though it is more often spent reading scripture. Vigil ends when the old year passes and the new year is born, signaled by the tolling of bells

※ Those who have sinned heinously and are unable to enter the Holy Kingdom are called the Fallen. Their sole punishment is time. Their Glimmer is returned to their body, and they awaken in the same state they were in before death. Should they refuse to repent, they shall remain in that state of undeath and rejection, dying again and again, rejected again and again.
There are penitentiaries tucked away out of mind in the deepest corners of Sornieth, where the Fallen will reside until the moment of sincere repentance. Should a Fallen One genuinely repent, their vitality returns to them, and they must then begin their penance. Penitence usually consists of pilgrimage and public service at the least, but sometimes redemption comes from closure.

※ Members of the church are collectively known as the Wings of said church. To become a Feather in the Wings requires extensive knowledge and understanding of not only their faith, but the responsibilities that come with increasing rank within the church. They are thus:
Deacon - In training to become priests. Spend their time studying and assisting in minor holidays
Priest - Leads holidays, holy leader for their parish
Bishop - Ordains Priests, provides for their diocese in whole
Pollex - holy leader for their Kingdom, lead the Orationis Aeternam
Pontifex - holy leader for their Flight, said to be anointed by the Divinity Itself and descended from the Eleven. They live in the capital cathedral of their home Flight until the month's holiday, whereupon they give a speech and convene with the others as the Pontifexical College.

A Deacon may be ordained a Priest by a Bishop after 4 years of study at one's nearest seminary, offered by monasteries. A Priest becomes a Bishop if selected by their Pollex. A Pollex also declares one Bishop as their successor. The Pontifex is elected by secret vote between the Pollexes.

Each of the Eleven Deities is representative of virtue, though none singularly represent either of the Bifecta of Virtues
Lord of Ice - devotion and piety; attainment of austerity
Lady of Shadow - contrition and compunction; striving for betterment
Lord of Wind - absolution and joviality; celebration of faith
Lord of Water - prophecy and augury; enforcing the will of the Divinity
Lady of Fire - immolation; rejection of sin and heresy
Lady of Nature - growth and charity; service to the Divinity and to others
Lady of Light - truth and honesty; the preservation of knowledge
Lord of Lightning - diligence and persistence; meditation on creation
Lord of Arcana - introspection and questioning; meditation on the self
Lady of Plague - fellowship and loyalty; faith in spite of adversity
Lord of Earth - tradition and heritage; remembrance of the past

Light is often associated with literature and the recording of history. Fire is associated with fervor and zealousness. Lightning developed its focus on stars with the discovery of lunar cycles, as the moon is considered a nearby star. They are considered outward thinkers. Arcane developed its focus on planets with the discovery that there are a total of eleven planets in the Sornieth system. They are considered inward thinkers. Ice and Wind monks are known for their strictness, but layfolk are much less severe.

pfsMEAS.png TimelineHuFOYN4.png

Pre-First Age | 0 ~ 500
  • Planet is formed by Divinity, vast and empty
  • Lord of Earth shapes the world, Lord of Water fills the oceans, Lady of Light warms the days, Lady of Shadow cools the nights, and the Lord of Wind draws the water vapour into the air-filled sky, all in tandem creating weather and the water cycle
  • Lord of Arcana casts stars into the sky, and Lord of Lightning causes them to arc across the sky like his lightning bolts. Lady of Fire erupts from the greatest mountain in the world, heating the earth and causing the planet to rotate.
  • Lady of Nature creates plants and animals to fill the world, and there becomes less and less room for the Divinity's final creation.
  • Lord of Ice freezes the world in the winter, Lord of Lightning rages in the sky and sea and Lady of Plague brings disease unto the world, to make sure that Lady Nature's creations remain in balance.
  • With the planet prepared, the Divinity created dragonkind, a perfect harmony of all Its facets. Earthen eggshell to protect them, nutrient-rich water to nourish them, Fire to incubate them until they hatch. Wind will fill their wings, and they will love both the day and night for all their splendors. The Arcane magic of the glimmering Divinity will grant them life, the Nature of the world will sustain them, and the Plague will force them to value every day of their life, and when it ends, their bodies will sustain the cycle.
  • As a final gift, the Divinity wanted proof of Itself to exist in every dragon, and so each dragon is born with a Glimmer, a mark of creation, a star to guide each dragon toward virtue.

First Age | 500 ~ 820
  • The Flights establish themselves and their ways of life.
  • Earth nomad-traders form the ancient trade roads that would last into the current age.
Plague is mostly independent family clans.
Fire and Water sages write the first religious texts describing what would later be simplified and codified into current tradition.
Arcane and Lightning scholars will become the cutting edges of science, and Nature that of medicine.
Ice and Wind monks form friendship with the development of brother and sisterhoods.
Light and Shadow work to maintain historical records.

Troubled Age | 820 ~ 900
  • The Flights develop kingdoms with better-defined borders. Religion is codified.
  • Earth is the trading capital of Sornieth, though it is becoming more isolationist due to fears of out-Flight erosion of tradition.
Plague is feudal but renowned for their martial cultures and weapons craftsmanship.
Fire has been insinuating that the Water Flight's Whisperers are lying heretics, Water has been implying the same of Fire, and while Wind is defending Water, Ice has been dependent on more profitable trade with Fire for decades in the face of potential famine.
With Arcane's focus on planetary movement and Lightning's emphasis on star cycles, their relationship has dissolved into thinly veiled hostility.
  • War is on the horizon for all Sornieth

Burning period | 900 - 1000
  • 900 - Earth, already worried about the influence of out-Flighters, closes its borders indefinitely, shutting down inter-Flight trade
  • 901 - Plague's Pontifex is assassinated, dissolving the fragile peace between the feudal nations. Three Plague nations - Clans of Red Lilies, White Reeds, and Grey Mountain - each want to unify Plague under their own Pontifex. Feudal war breaks.
  • 901 - Fire instigates war with Water. Ice and Wind are forced into conflict but immediately institute an armistice. Nearby Nature declares itself neutral, offering medical aid to any and all.
  • 901 - Arcane and Lightning go to war. It is still contested who shot first. Light and Shadow try tirelessly to mediate to no avail.
  • The Pontifexate is unable to end the war in spite of their calls for peace
  • 1000 - The Divinity Speaks

Clemency Period | 1000 ~ 1030
  • Plague is no longer at war, but still divided. Now dotted with memorials and shrines, seen as the Flight of pilgrimage and fraternity in spite of adversity
  • Earth reopens its borders, allowing trade to flourish as every Flight has been depleted of resources, and starvation is rife
  • Fire and Water make amends with one another, returning to their roots of theological scholardom.
  • Lightning and Arcane begin to blend their schools of thought together with the idea that both star and planetary cycles may play an equal role in the spiritual and secular
  • Wind and Ice had been suffering from famine, having always been the poorest Flights. With inter-Flight bonds restored and stronger than ever, they are much less afraid of the future
  • The massive death toll during the Great Burning War has resulted in the loss of entire generations of Sorniethites. Because of this, Earth and Light are encouraging travel and connecting with out-Flighters in the hopes that stories which are not written down will survive the ages to come. So much information on those who experienced the war is already lost.
  • In their work to consecrate battlegrounds

White Age | 1030 ~ present day
  • Peace in Sornieth, Goodwill toward dragonkind.
  • Miracles are occurring more frequently, ushering in a generation of dragons more fervent than ever.
  • In their work to consecrate new holy sites and important battlegrounds discover the scale of the phenomenon of Fallen Ones.
  • When the Divinity spoke, the world changed. The guiding constellation of Glimmers was thrown out of alignment, and in the space between where the stars were and now are, there the Shade bleeds. Those who allow themselves to be enveloped in that liminal space of hatred and cruelty will find that they are no longer able to die.
