Caspian turned away from the window when he heard his sister's voice. "If I never see another pirate again, it'll be too soon," He grimaced. "Except you, sorry. I didn't mean-" "You're good," Kelpie laughed. "You've never been the adventurous sort." "It really is wild that I got wrapped up in all of this. I'm sorry that all this had such an impact on your crew, I know that they've meant a lot to you. Are you still planning on sticking with them?" "I don't know," Kelpie admitted. "Almost losing you really shook me up." "Well, it sounds like the crews are sticking around for a while. Maybe you'll have time to decide," Caspian suggested. "Well, the whole thing makes me wonder if I should even be a pirate at all," Kelpie sighed. "I'm sorry, but that's the most ridiculous thing you have ever said to me," Caspian laughed, shoving his sister playfully. "You love adventure, you love your pirate crews. don't be all noble on my behalf. You would be miserable staying in one place too long." "Yeah, but I miss you," Kelpie said. "And I miss you too, but both of us have very different lifestyles. That's not a bad thing. We can write to each other, you can visit. And we have now, while the clan bundles down and braces ourselves for whatever comes." Caspian pointed out. "I would be honored to have you protecting me now, but you don't need to protect me forever. I have a huge family watching my back, I'm happy." "I'm glad," Kelpie grinned. "I just wish I had the same assurances for myself. Who knows what is going to be happening with the two crews." "Yeah, well, there is that," Caspian conceded. "I guess we'll just have to wait and see. And regardless of what happens, you have my support." "Even if I rejoin Zemira's crew?" Kelpie raised an eyebrow. "As long as she doesn't try to kill me again, I think we're good," Caspian joked. "I would never let that happen," Kelpie's face grew serious again. "I know," Caspian said, leaning his head on his sister's shoulder. "I know." The two siblings' conversation dwindled into a comfortable silence, and they sat together as the sun set, enjoying each other's company. For these moments were precious, the moments they were in the same location, and both wanted to savour the time their paths aligned, before they would diverge once more. Hey! What are you doing!" Leo hissed as the sussex spaniel bounded off in the direction of the Shade Castle. Even though the tundra was getting more comfortable and confident in his exploration, he had still steered clear of this part of the woods. He knew from the whispers in his parents' tavern that many dragons went missing in these parts. But he could not leave his emotional support dog behind, and she had already disappeared among the foliage. Bracing himself, Leo followed, feeling his heart pounding with every step. It wasn't long before he realized that he wasn't the only one moving in this direction. Huge, lumbering shapes moved just beyond his vision in the emerging fog, and when he once again found Nala, she was barking at them, pointing his nose for Leo to see. "Yeah, I see them Nala, I-" Leo was cut off as a beast stepped over him, almost crushing him and his dog under his feet, and he watched as Nala instinctively shifted into her hellhound form, and her barking got louder. There were beasts in the woods, Leo knew this, it was one of the reasons that he had so much trouble leaving the protection of The Refuge for so long. But this was weird. Why would they all be going in the same direction? He had already gone this far, he might as well see if he could get more information to report back to the clan. Besides, Nala didn't seem to be turning back anytime soon, she seemed torn between protecting Leo and being enthralled by whatever force was drawing the beasts in. So, Leo crept through the foliage, trusting that the presence of the beasts would distract anyone who might notice him. It did not take him long to realize that the beasts were too focused on their destination to pay him much mind, they were not attacking him. Eventually, Leo found himself somewhere he had vowed he would never go - right in front of the Shade Castle. It was hard to see, the way it was shrouded in a void-like mist, but it looked as though someone was on the roof. At the very least, there was a glowing red orb. It was this orb that the beasts seemed entranced by, and even Nala was bouncing around, less dazed than the surrounding monsters, but bounding around in a way reminiscent of when Leo played fetch with her. Leo crept closer, until he could make out the dragon on top. He was an aberration, with a mane of skulls. "Ancient Beasts, you are all mine, you will help fight in this war against the Refuge, and bring about the dominion of the Shade across Sornieth!" The aberration called, his voice echoing surprisingly well in the woods. Immediately, bolts of void shot from him, entering the nostrils and mouths of the beasts, until they all became his puppets. This was when Leo realized he had to go. Mustering all his strength, he scooped up Nala and held her tight so she couldn't wriggle free, and he ran as fast as his legs could carry him, towards home. The clan needed to know. They all were in grave danger. "I told you I am sick." "Yeah well, I'm new to this caring about people thing, but you helped me recover, it seems only fair that I help you?" Cavador said. "The best thing you can do is keeping yourself healthy." Equilibrium moved to shut the door, but was attacked by a bought of coughing. To his surprise, when he looked up, there was a sticky void-like substance on the ground, eating away at the front step. Cavador looked down at it, eyes wide, then back at Equilibrium. "That's no ordinary cough. I'm coming in." Quil was too weak to stop the spiral as he hoisted the skydancer up and carrying him to his bed. Immediately, Cavador began looking him over. "Look, I'm no doctor, but I know the shade. Hold on, I need to tap into my own shade powers to see if I can sense what is going on. I promise I won't hurt you, I just need to know where it is from." Cavador warned. "Cavador, you know the more you use them, the more powerful they get," Quil's voice rasped. "I'm not worth this." "No offence, but you helped save me from certain doom. This is quite literally the least I can do," Cavador's eyes flashed, void closing on on the green irises. "Damn, when did I start caring so much. This is new." Quil wasn't able to respond, because immediately he felt his heart clutched by the absence of heat and sensation. He was not even sure if he could feel his heart beating anymore. He gasped for air. "That's not an illness," Cavador reeled back. "And it's not my shade either." He swore. "Doben! He must have mixed a fragment of his shade with mine when I left, so he could keep an eye on me! Apparently he's decided to use it to assassinate his enemies from a distance. Hold on, let me see if I can figure out how to draw it out." "No, don't," Quil reached out a shaky hand, begging Cavador to stop. "If you think I'm going to let you die for your own sense of morality and self-sacrifice, you've got another thing coming." Cavador said, his form was almost complete shrouded in shade-mist now, and he was straining with ever fibre of his being trying to pull it out. Quil could feel the tug. But the attempt came too late, and the fragment of Doben attacking him from within was stronger than Cavador's shade, especially after all of his treatments. And the last thing Quil saw as numbness filled his body and he began to lose consciousness was the frantic spiral, doing everything he could to save him. At least he knew he was dying having succeeded in his goal. He had saved his half-brother. He hoped their mother would be proud. ----- Next ----- @Drachenschwinge @Dynami @Leopardmask @Sabariel @BarbaraFett @Disillusionist @Dakala @Wufflesnuff @Tirtouga678 @chippertowns @Aetherstorm @MisterMylez @harpyja @Calyrex @Gender @feleathion @queerkestrel @catmeow1 @Khyriana @CleverTrick @brandonjui @Crescentstar711 @sedge122 @Brasil @Lixue @DiamondDogg @GraceShelby1031 @VeniVidiVici @Jaspernoir @Glitchtrap @GingaSnap @aquaberyl @Pocketdog @lunarkismet @girlofSornieth @octagaze @Lightwolf57 @Volur @Murvax @SakuraSundae @RedSiren @Rainilith @NewmoonWasTaken @pancakeswithabs @LaSilva007 ----- Guess what, we have another death today... Wow, Cavador's definitely come a long way! It's been really fun watching his character development as he's trying to deal with the things he's done.

I'm also happy to take Quil back, if nobody else says they want him?

Cavador is definitely one of my favourite dragons rn, I never expected him to get a redemption arc, but I am glad he did!

I will send Quil right over then! It's been a delight to have him!

Before, she had been apathetic, it had been the arrival of a child she had never wanted, that she had out of obligation more than actual desire to be a mother. This hatching was unplanned, but she could not be more excited. Particularly, seeing how excited Gravity was to be a mother brought the anticipation even stronger. Gravity was cradling the egg now, as it quivered, cracking. The child would be here any moment know, Grannox remembered how the intensity of the quivering intensified until the egg cracked enough to allow the hatchling to emerge. It had happened in perfect motion, and before she knew it, her daughter was in Gravity's arms. "What do you want to call her?" Grannox asked. She had named her first child, it was only right that Gravity named this one. "She looks like a Hime, don't you think?" Gravity said, meeting her mate's gaze. It was filled with so much love and joy that Grannox melted a little inside. "Hime is perfect," Grannox grinned. "May I?" "Of course!" Gravity said, passing the hatchling off to Grannox. And so, for the first time, Grannox held one of her children. She was beautiful, and perfect, and Grannox knew she would do anything to protect her. This child would not know the hardship she had known. She would be loved, and cared for, and whatever controlled Druzii would not touch her. Grannox would make sure of that, no matter the cost. Quetzali asked, hardly able to believe the words the advisor told her. "They've abandoned you. Your mother, your father, and even your beloved nanny. They decided they were done with royal life and left, and they didn't even care about you to ask if you wanted to come along too," Druzii repeated, speaking every word slowly and clearly. Quetzali was dumbfounded. Her parents, she expected. Neither of them had ever bothered to care about her. But Elm leaving, that hurt. Elm was far more of a parent to her than either of her biological parents had ever been. She thought that even if they threw her to the side, Elm would never. This was a punch to the gut, and she didn't know how to comprehend the weight in her chest as she processed what Druzii was telling her. "In fact, your mother has abandoned you to start a whole new child, with a whole new family. I tried to stop her, but she was insistent," Druzii went on. Now that stung. Quetzali didn't think she would care if her mother never thought of her again, but learning that she had another child, learning that she was capable of being a caring mother, which meant that she had chosen not to care about Quetzali. "Now the good news is that there is now an opening for the throne, if you would want it. But you have to prove that I can trust you. All my other monarchs I have advised were weak-willed. They neglected their duties and betrayed their station." Druzii said. "Are you up for the task?" "Yes, of course," Quetzali said. After all, Druzii was the only one who had never abandoned her, she would not let him down. "Great. Now, I need your approval on something, as your first act as queen," Druzii said, pulling out a piece of parchment. Quetzali read it over carefully. Immediately she was filled with guilt. It detailed an expansion for the palace, for the safety of the royals, in the case of enemy attack. Immediately, her mind went to her studies. Elm had told her, in secret, about the Gladekeeper and the nature flight, and described the importance of the tree, and how it was dying due to how deep the palace ran. Trees were made to support life, they could survive a certain amount of burrowing within if done properly, but the building was not done with the expertise. Which meant that the protections the tree offered was waning, and the residents of the clan would be in danger. A clan that was built to protect the unprotected. She had agreed with Elm, that the size and placement of the palace was bad. This new expansion would almost certainly kill the tree altogether. It would cost lives. But, as she stared into Druzii's button eyes, she was reminded that Elm had abandoned her. What did it matter what he had taught her? If he had cared enough about this stupid tree, he would have defended it himself. Why did the members of this clan deserve magical protection when it would mean that she would have no one left in the world to call her family. She did not want to lose Druzii as well. So, heart wrenching in her chest, she reached out and signed it. In doing so, she knew she was condemning this clan to death, but she had to stay firm to her path. She would not back down. She would not betray the one dragon who was there for her. If that made her a villain, then so be it. Day 330: The Daughters of Grannox

Grannox had witnessed a hatching before, but it was nothing like this.

"May I?"

"Of course!" Gravity said, passing the hatchling off to Grannox.

"What are you saying?" Quetzali asked, hardly able to believe the words the advisor told her.

"Are you up for the task?"

"Yes, of course," Quetzali said.

Elm had told her, in secret, about the Gladekeeper and the nature flight, and described the importance of the tree, and how it was dying due to how deep the palace ran.

Quetzali was ready to embrace her fate.

Day 322: Return Wow, this was a really emotional chapter. I'll admit I thought things would be better with Victor being restored, but it looked like that wasn't really the case. [emoji=guardian sad] Day 323: The Martyr This one was intense! Doppio's speech, wow -- I was hanging on to every word. And the way Zemira just broke at the end, followed by that last line: No one followed her. Astounding! Day 324: Clarity from the Past OOOOOHHH [emoji=bogsneak star] What gorgeous new dragons! And what amazing new developments for Zemira, especially right on the heels of that previous chapter. Day 325: At Every Occasion, I'll Be Ready for the Funeral ...I'll admit, though, that Gravity x Grannox is still my favorite couple so far. Definitely gonna continue rooting for them! X3 Day 327: A Fallen Crown I'm so relieved Gravity, Grannox, and Elm were able to get away. I was really afraid we'd lose someone here. *shakes fist* CATALINAAAAAAAAARRRRRGH Day 328: Out of Sight Glad our friends were able to find refuge so quickly! Mafia versus fairies, now there's a showdown I never knew I needed in my life until now. Also, wow, that last scene. Artagan's broadcast message really sank in here, though I guess we'll have to wait and see if his experiences have changed him for the better or not. Day 329: Evil Rising I was so happy to see Leo and Nala again! ...But holy moly, Malphite. o__O Leo had the right idea, retreating so quickly. Day 330: The Daughters of Grannox Eeeerrr, I'll admit, I completely forgot about Quetzali being Grannox's kid too. Eep. x'D But her descent into villainy was rationalized so well here. Reminded me of Eleanor from The Good Place talking about her own mom. "She was capable of being a good mom, but I just wasn't worth changing for." D':

@Disillusionist

Yeah, I realized after he came back that the extensive lore plans I had created for his actual soul did not mesh well with the family his body had joined with.

I'm so glad you enjoyed it, I was really building up to that moment!

Gosh Laylan and her sing were so convenient for bringing Zemira back around!

Grannox and Gravity have my whole heart and if anything happens to them now that they are no longer immune...

Mafia vs Fairies would be one hell of a show down, given the various social contracts and danger they both hold.

Malphite knows we are hitting finale territory and knows he has to go big or go home!

That line probably subconsciously fed into Quetzali's rationalization, come to think of it!

"If I died it wouldn't have hurt my father as much as this." "Triton... loves... you..." Borealis breathed. "Yeah, but he's used to me being gone, right now he's deities-knows-where in the great depths of the Deep trying to find a way to break the curse!" Mack fumed. "And now he's going to come back to find you dead! Oh, what a mess." She shook her head. "Go... there... may... be... time..." Borealis gasped. "I'm not leaving you, dammit!" Mack growled. Barracuda asked, swimming up to the two undertides. "I heard - oh no." "Barracuda, can you please sit with her? She's beyond help, and I don't want her to be alone when she -" Mack paused, unwilling to say it to her sister, who was so much less aware of the horrors of the world than she was. "You don't have to protect me, Mack," Barracuda narrowed her eyes. "I may live a more comfortable life than you, but that doesn't make me an idiot. Hand her over, you better go chase down whoever or whatever did this, it's the least we can do for dad." "Don't... worry... about... me..." Borealis said, glancing weakly at both of them. "No, we are going to worry about you and there isn't anything you can do about it," Mack rolled her yes. "Try to stay alive until I get back, okay? Maybe you can pull through." Mack knew it was pointless, Borealis would be dead long before she got back. But she knew other dragons needed hope, far more than she did. Mezzo exclaimed, "It's not often you come and visit me!" "I wish it were on better terms, sister." Ether sighed. Though the gods were not siblings by blood, the link of their godhood bound them as siblings. "But the real reason I am reaching out to you is because I am concerned about The Refuge. Things are stirring, protections are weakening, I am finding myself in more and more nightmares. There is one dreamer in particular, within whom I wander, who has been hounded by the same visions night and night again of a very great and destructive blaze." "I have noticed unrest in my followers as well," Mezzo agreed. "But what can we do, we are bound by our domains, if we had the power of the Eleven, maybe, but we are limited. I am already doing all I can and am wearing myself thin." "You think I don't know that?" Ether snapped. "We may be less powerful than The Eleven, but we do have one thing we don't, and that is the freedom of the mortality we once held. We can commune more easily with mortals, we can notice the little things. There must be something we can do to stop this clan from reaching a terrible fate, who knows if The Eleven will deign to step in, they are too distracted by their own follies and interests." "You are right, brother, I should never have doubted. Doubt does nothing for those poor souls. We cannot die as easy as they, and I have a duty to those I am sworn to protect." Mezzo nodded. "Do you have any ideas?" But Ether didn't answer. He was staring into space, as though his gaze was transfixed on something that wasn't there. "There's no time. The tree is burning, now. You have to wake up. I'll see what I can do from my realm." Ether then shoved his paws against her, slamming her into the ground with enough force to break the dream. Fire coursed through his veins, fed by the fire spirit that was bound to his soul. There was beauty in it, even in it's most dangerous moments. This was a different story. This fire was haunting, and it scared him down to the core. Not even the greatest love and affinity to fire could prepare one for seeing the heart of your home, the very bastion that offered the clan the protection it required to function, burning to the ground. Fabian was the first to see it, but it was not long before other faces peered from windows and doors, watching in abject horror. A few dragons tried to grab buckets, water magic, anything that might put the blaze out, to no avail. It was only when the unrelenting rains of Wavecrest began that the fire began to peter out, though it took hours before it had diminished enough to put out the blaze. He was too young and too weak to offer the same protections The Refuge had, and would not be big and strong enough for a long, long time. That was when the clan began to notice the appearance of hulking shadows of large beasts with gleaming red eyes appear from the forest. This was not an accidental spark, this was an intentional attack. With the remaining strength she held she flicked her tail upstream, where the last glimpse of a wildclaw disappeared through the trees. In this mouth, he held a flaming branch.

"I know! But he's getting away, and I can't just leave you. I would have stood a better chance of fighting him, and if I died," Mack paused to take a breath. "If I died it wouldn't have hurt my father as much as this."

"Triton... loves... you..." Borealis breathed.

"I can't do that to my father."

"What's happening?" Barracuda asked, swimming up to the two undertides. "I heard - oh no."

"Barracuda, can you please sit with her? She's beyond help, and I don't want her to be alone when she -" Mack paused, unwilling to say it to her sister, who was so much less aware of the horrors of the world than she was.

"You don't have to protect me, Mack," Barracuda narrowed her eyes. "I may live a more comfortable life than you, but that doesn't make me an idiot. Hand her over, you better go chase down whoever or whatever did this, it's the least we can do for dad."

"Don't... worry... about... me..." Borealis said, glancing weakly at both of them.

"No, we are going to worry about you and there isn't anything you can do about it," Mack rolled her yes. "Try to stay alive until I get back, okay? Maybe you can pull through."

Mack knew it was pointless, Borealis would be dead long before she got back. But she knew other dragons needed hope, far more than she did.

"Ether!" Mezzo exclaimed, "It's not often you come and visit me!"

"I wish it were on better terms, sister." Ether sighed. Though the gods were not siblings by blood, the link of their godhood bound them as siblings. "But the real reason I am reaching out to you is because I am concerned about The Refuge. Things are stirring, protections are weakening, I am finding myself in more and more nightmares. There is one dreamer in particular, within whom I wander, who has been hounded by the same visions night and night again of a very great and destructive blaze."

"I have noticed unrest in my followers as well," Mezzo agreed. "But what can we do, we are bound by our domains, if we had the power of the Eleven, maybe, but we are limited. I am already doing all I can and am wearing myself thin."

"You think I don't know that?" Ether snapped. "We may be less powerful than The Eleven, but we do have one thing we don't, and that is the freedom of the mortality we once held. We can commune more easily with mortals, we can notice the little things. There must be something we can do to stop this clan from reaching a terrible fate, who knows if The Eleven will deign to step in, they are too distracted by their own follies and interests."

"You are right, brother, I should never have doubted. Doubt does nothing for those poor souls. We cannot die as easy as they, and I have a duty to those I am sworn to protect." Mezzo nodded. "Do you have any ideas?"

But Ether didn't answer. He was staring into space, as though his gaze was transfixed on something that wasn't there. "There's no time. The tree is burning, now. You have to wake up. I'll see what I can do from my realm."

Ether then shoved his paws against her, slamming her into the ground with enough force to break the dream.

Fabian knew fire.

From over by the cherry blossom tree, quaking in fear and crying, appeared the spirit of Toby.

The Refuge was under siege.

It's a bleak chapter, but now that Wavecrest is here, it's time for the final showdown between the Refuge and The Shade Castle/Nature Extremists/Beasts (notice how I was able to consolidate all of their enemies into one force? ) Also, the curse strikes again, any Coli team with Fabian (who is level 10) is basically a death sentence. We were in the Scorched Fields with Ether and Mezzo, and Mezzo fell and I rolled for Borealis to take it. Sometimes, Pinkerton likes to tell a certain story, and I have to admire him for sticking to the curse.

From here on out, we are in finale territory, the final battle begins now.

If anyone wants to claim Borealis, you have until 23:59 FR time before she is exalted, first come first serve.

Please be gentle with me, I get stressed and anxious easily, and don't always pick up on meanings or social cues. I'm very detail-oriented & like to have all information possible before proceeding.
Whew. Well. It's been a long time since I've been able to keep up with much on FR, if you even remember me. But I'm finally starting to catch up on some things, including this Pinkerlocke! Ok, to be fair, I'm not entirely caught up yet. I made it to page 200, so... still a ways to go haha. But holy dragons gods. There's a lot to absorb. But here's some things that have sunk in so far:

Honestly, super sad to see Morning go so early. Was really looking forward to more time with him in the 'locke, that was a cruel blow from Pink ):.
I figured Alps wouldn't last much longer after they were nested, but geez... didn't expect them to go out like that.
Oh gosh, and of course the next dragon I come to adore is Canela. The lore of her preserving Rikki's skull in her pearl was freaking inspiring, and I just liked her overall. Also very sad to see her go ;;.
I love Maria with every fiber of my being. ............... no pun intended??? But anyway, all the Feywild shenanigans are so good???
OH it felt SO GOOD to see Sage get the last blow on Marmara. Frickin' crazy wildclaw, the sheer justice of that is -chef's kiss-.
Glad to see Tyrian eventually become captain, and the whole progression makes sense. Also made sense for Finnath to leave. Just have been enjoying the pirates all around.
S A G E. I don't know why, but I thought Sage was immune to death for the longest time and then... yeah. That hurt :(. But seeing Burns take her place and the whole him turning into a guardian... beautiful. Perfect. Wonderful. Not overly emotional about it at all.
Ok. I was already out for Cavador's throat before, but BALANCE. WHY. If Cavador dies at any time and he's not claimed, I would like the pleasure of exalting that dragon myself.
AND THEN BURNS. THESE EXTREMISTS. I'M ABOUT TO GO EXTREME ON THEIR FACES.
Omg, it's been so long, but I recognized Patches immediately. What a call back!
Whenever I see the name Baine... I get flashbacks.
You know... not gonna lie, don't care for Zemira's attitude. I'm with Tyrian. Idk, we'll see if she redeems herself somehow.
Still processing everything else and still have a bit to go, but I've been enjoying it of course! Also, very much have to compliment you on your dedication. You've been keeping this going for so long! I may not have been able to read every update as it comes out, but every time I saw a ping, I was rooting for you!

Ok, to be fair, I'm not entirely caught up yet. I made it to page 200, so... still a ways to go haha.

But holy dragons gods. There's a lot to absorb. But here's some things that have sunk in so far:
 • Honestly, super sad to see Morning go so early. Was really looking forward to more time with him in the 'locke, that was a cruel blow from Pink ):.
 • I figured Alps wouldn't last much longer after they were nested, but geez... didn't expect them to go out like that.
 • Oh gosh, and of course the next dragon I come to adore is Canela. The lore of her preserving Rikki's skull in her pearl was freaking inspiring, and I just liked her overall. Also very sad to see her go ;;.
 • I love Maria with every fiber of my being. ............... no pun intended??? But anyway, all the Feywild shenanigans are so good???
 • OH it felt SO GOOD to see Sage get the last blow on Marmara. Frickin' crazy wildclaw, the sheer justice of that is -chef's kiss-.
 • Glad to see Tyrian eventually become captain, and the whole progression makes sense. Also made sense for Finnath to leave. Just have been enjoying the pirates all around.
 • S A G E. I don't know why, but I thought Sage was immune to death for the longest time and then... yeah. That hurt :(. But seeing Burns take her place and the whole him turning into a guardian... beautiful. Perfect. Wonderful. Not overly emotional about it at all.

 • Whenever I see the name Baine... I get flashbacks.

@Pocketdog

I know right? That may be my longest pinkerlocke EVER because of returning to the "one a year" format I had before, which make this one pretty darn special to me!

@Sabariel

Of course I remember you! It made me smile so much to see your name pop up in my notifications again, welcome back!!!

I have very much enjoyed reading all your thoughts! It's bittersweet to look back on all the dragons you were mentioning who are no longer around, there are many dragons I miss writing! I appreciate you support, even if it is just cheering me on from the pings! I am looking forward to seeing your reaction to some things in the future, I won't say which, but some of your specific comments on situations made me very :)))) and it makes me wonder of what you will think of certain things as they shift and change.

Also, I should mention, Cavador has unfortunately already been pre-claimed, but I appreciate your dedication to justice!
