[indent][u]HOBO DINNER[/u] 1 lb ground beef (not too lean) 1 cup potato, sliced or cubed (can use pre-cut hash browns) 1 cup carrot, cut up (can use frozen veggies, thawed) 1⁄2 cup onion, cut 4 teaspoons butter garlic powder, (seasoned) salt, pepper non-stick cooking spray, aluminum foil Spray a large square of aluminum foil with cooking spray. Place some of the meat in center of foil. Place some of the vegetables on top of meat. Season with butter, salt, garlic powder and pepper to taste. Fold top and sides of foil several times to seal in the food. After a year of relative isolation, I felt ill-equipped to deal with some of the encounters I was anticipating despite my preparations. After emerging, I stood for a bit still poised to return to the safety of my shelter if warranted. However, the warmth of the sun was pleasant, and there was an intoxicating scent of fresh blossoms on the air. I found the lack of any immediate threat encouraging and decided to proceed and venture a bit farther from my base. Before fully realizing, my feet had carried me some distance. There was a gentle wind moving a myriad of leaves around me, or so I thought for a moment. Birds took flight from their hidden perches, filling the air with their feathered wings. Yet, as the leaves continued their movement, I cautiously moved in for a closer look. A set of pointed ears poked up, and a soft, furry paw reached playfully from the branches. Detaching a bit of twine from my pack, I was able to lure the timid creature from his hiding place. He appeared hungry, so I shared some of my rations. I could have sworn that I had only started out quite recently, but in my fascinated exploration, I must have lost track of time, for I noticed that the sky was beginning to darken. As I started back, my new friend seemed eager to follow. Upon reflection, I believe that much more investigation will be required. I find it likely that I will no longer be conducting my studies alone.
