When I grow up I'm gonna be the biggest, strongest rope you ever did see!!! #18 - Bed roll - 10 points Some sort of portable bedding. I spent 11 days thinking this one was easy, I have 2 self inflating camping mattresses, they were perfect. Then I spent 2 days wondering where I put them. Then finally, on the last day, I remembered giving them back to my mum. Ok, plan B - a portable cat bed will have to do instead!! #19 - Portable light or lantern - 10 points My very own light sabres!! With additional magnets, but without the ability to hack people to pieces, which is probably just as well #20 - Water container - 10 points Stay hydrated! I reckon these are perfect snacks to take on an adventure. Full of yummy goodness and energy, and easy to transport! #22 - A cool hat - 10 points The mark of every true adventurer! Not one that I made myself, but the most appropriate for long treks in the sun! #24 - Jungle (leaves) - 10 points A nice jungly looking plant with huge leaves! #25 - Savannah (grass or scrub) - 10 points Totally a grassy savannah... #26 - Tundra (ice) - 10 points Um.... yeah... it may be winter here, but snow doesn't exist and hail is rare... so these are my favourite type of icebergs! Edit: We're actually having a cold snap at the moment and there was actually snow on Bluff Knoll (the only place in Western Australia that gets snow) - but I decided I wasn't going to go for an 11 hour round trip drive, plus 4 hour hike, just to see some snow that's probably already melted. #27 - Wetlands (any outdoor body of water) - 10 points This is looking upriver from the city, toward the (relatively) new bridge and stadium, from Heirisson Island #28 - Mountains (rock) - 10 points A mighty mountain rising from the ocean... well, a chunk of limestone on the rivers edge #29 - Forest (tree or branch) - 10 points How many trees does it take to make a forest anyway? #30 - Wastes (dirt) - 10 points A house got knocked down just up the street from me... looks like a wasteland now :'( #31 - Meadows (a flower) - 10 points A little past their prime, but there's flowers. And grass. It counts! ENCOUNTERS There's nothing quite like the great outdoors (until it starts fighting back). Get out there and see what you can discover of Nature's beauty! #32 - Bird - 10 points This is a Willy Wag Tail - they are tiny but mighty - they'll actually chase crows away from their territory even though they are heaps bigger! #33 - Bug - 10 points "Ok, I'm an Aussie, how hard can this one be - there's gotta be a spider around the house somewhere!" I ask, only to find the house is actually bug free at the moment. But this little critter has been coming in to check out the cat food bowl, between midnight and 2am most nights for the last few weeks. The cat doesn't even seem to notice - he actually ate his food even though the slug was on the other side of the bowl one night! #34 - Footprints or tracks - 10 points What on earth made that?! See photo #35. #35 - Mammal - 10 points How many places in the world can you get a photo like this?! #36 - Sunrise or sunset - 10 points Totally not discussing how much I hate mornings or the fact that I've always said I'm more likely to see a sunrise if I've stayed up late than if I get up early... or that sunrise is at about 7am at the moment. On the other hand, a better photo than any of the sunsets for the last few days. #37 - Seeds - 10 points Two examples of dukkah, a middle eastern blend of spices, nuts and seeds. Get some Turkish bread (or ciabatta), dip in olive oil, then dukkah - yum!! The one on the right is actually made by my mum, who sells, pickled olives and a variety of jams and marmalades. Being ground finer helps it stick to the bread (also, the commercial one has very little spice) #38 - Brick or stone structure - 10 points Oddly, I struggled with this a little in terms of fun ideas/opportunities. So, you get my 'garden' shed. It's tiny, but I don't have a lot of garden anyway, so I cope. RELICS One of the most exciting parts of an adventure is all the artifacts you can collect. Find your own "treasure" (something of value to you) for each of the following. Ok, I've made it a habit in all my travels to buy a small piece of art and some fridge magnets of the places I go, so I'm gonna use photos of those for this section. #39 - Black - 10 points And straight away, I'm breaking my own rule - I was gonna use the same thing for green and black, but thought of a non art piece I can use here instead - I bought this jacket when I lived in Glasgow, and I adore it. It's pure wool, and a really nice fit. It's warm and even waterproof in a light rain! #40 - White - 10 points Well, I guess ice counts as white! This is in Banff, Canada in November 2005. I had 4 days there while visiting friends in Montana on my way from Australia to Glasgow, Scotland where I lived for 4 years. Obviously! #41 - Brown - 10 points This would be the oldest item from my collection - I got this in Pisa, Italy when I was 13. I think it's so clever using all the different types of wood to create the picture - and intricate!! #42 - Red - 10 points Not exactly high art, but roses and red are my favourites, so I couldn't resist this when I was in Vienna with my best friend and her sister in December 2009 - a last European trip before I headed home after 4 years in Glasgow Scotland. #43 - Orange - 10 points This picture is of a Negrita Puloy, one of the older icons of the Baranquilla Carnavale in Colombia, one of the largest carnavales in the world, which I went to in 2019. And I can tell you, getting to Colombia from Western Australia... is an effort!! #44 - Yellow - 10 points This is the most recent item in the section! I stayed in Mexico City on my way home from my trip (see above) in 2019... wow, only 2 years ago! The statue is called the Angel of Independence. #45 - Green - 10 points I tend to not be drawn to the green spectrum as much, so struggled a bit for this one, so this will have to do. It's another 'early' part of my collection - it was done entirely using spray cans by a street artist in Airlie Beach, Qld, Australia, where I got it on a road trip around Australia I did by myself when I was 22. #46 - Blue - 10 points I got this one in Greece in 2008. I was torn between this one, which was much more representative of the area, or another one which didn't really look Greek, but was pretty with a autumn trees, a sunset, mountain and waterfall... so I got both! #47 - Purple - 10 points And finally, Thailand - where I went in ... 2012 I believe it was! Or maybe 2013. I was gonna make a joke about spending One Night In Bangkok, but you're probably all too young. KEEP YOUR ENERGY UP! #48 - Outdoor food - 25 points (no photo needed) Make sure you supply yourself with some good nutrients. Share a recipe for something that can be prepared in the great outdoors. This is a recipe for Damper, an Australian, yeast free, bread that you can either cook in a camp oven in the coals, or do what we sometimes did. Find a long stick, that's still a bit green (fresh, so it doesn't burn), that is bark free and clean. Make a 'sausage' from a section of the dough, then wrap it around the stick. You want to not have large gaps between the rounds. Hold the stick over the coals, just like roasting marshmallows. When it's cooked, you should be able to (carefully, cos it's hot!) slide it off the stick without it sticking. Then you pour golden syrup down the hole (hence not wanting gaps!) and eat - NOM! Damper Recipe DOCUMENTATION You did bring a journal, didn't you? Keep track of your findings for posterity. #49 - Cartography - 40 points Be a cartographer and test your map-making skills. Create a map of your lair or the territory you explored (real or imagined). Ok, I've got 3 maps like this, Australia, UK and USA. I thought about a Europe one, but a lot of places there were flown to, so that's harder to mark in all the routes I've taken. The lines had faded a lot, so I've re-marked it - red lines for trips I've done myself and black for trips taken with my parents when I was young. There's also a bit in the south east there I did with someone on a motorbike! It looks like there's a lot of Australia I've not seen - but you do have to bear in mind how much of it is desert - there are no roads in some of those empty spaces!! In fact, some of those routes I've marked are 4WD only, and the eastern side of that loop in the middle of Western Australia is basically a series of sand dunes. #50 - Epic tale - 40 points (no photo needed) Like a true historian, write a story about your adventure (real or imagined). gah - creative writing is NOT my forte - just ask my English teachers from school... Day 1: Excellent start to the adventure - I made the first post on the thread, and it's at the very top of page 2!! So much easier to go back to and find each time I edit it. Day 2-4: Attention not on task - helping the team Catch all the dragons being sent in for Glademomma taking priority. Still, some thoughts have been percolating, and I have made up my ID tag. Also got in some photos of art for most of the colours section. Also discovered when taking a photo of my shoes that purple highlighter on yellow paper doesn't show up very well in the sun, so make a second ID. Day 5: Had to crawl out from under the pile of dragons to go for a walk and get some fresh air for a bit. Saw several good opportunities for RLSH photos. Doh!! It's ok, I've still got time. Goes back and gets comfy with dragons again. Day 6-7: Forgetting what RL actually means, but the the Dom Push is almost over!! Now just to ensure all the tickets have been recorded correctly. Mind you, the weather is so horrid outside, going out to take photos wouldn't be happening anyway. Day 8-10: RL hits with a vengeance - work!! The worst of the four letter words! Managed to get in a few more photos around the house. Day 11: Day off!! Freedom!!! And it's not raining!!!! Yay!!!! Take a wander outside and get some of the photos I couldn't get the other day. Then jump in the car to head to Heirisson Island, because I know there'll be good opportunities for the Exploring and Encounters sections. In particular, I'm hoping to see the kangaroos. 75% of the way there.... and I realise I've forgotten my ID again!! After heading home to grab that, I finally get to the island am pretty happy with the photos I get. Now. Sunset. Obviously sunrise is out of the question, cos I'm never awake at that hour. But I have an appointment right about sunset time tonight, so.... hmm. As I'm driving to the appointment, I see the sky light up with a beautiful sunset - maybe I can find a good spot on the way and quickly grab a photo? After scooting around the streets, I take a couple of terrible shots and am late... oops. Day 12: Work again. On the way home, I note that there's a spot where a photo of the sunset would be doable (although not great), but it's too early at the time I'm there. No further photo ops on the way, and by the time I'm home, sunset is well over. Plus, I forgot the ID, again! Day 13: Took my ID to work today!! Hang around at the spot near the bus stop and take a bunch of photos, but the sunset just doesn't look sunsetty tonight - too much cloud for the colours to come through. Get home late, looking forward to catching up with a friend for the evening. Only 1 more chance at that sunset. Day 13b: My friend leaves. It's after 4am. I make the incredibly clever decision to work on some more photos for the RLSH, and maybe get the sunrise. Get distracted looking at some old photo albums - found a photo of me at 9!!! Go outside as it's getting light and get those sunrise photos at 7am. Crawl into bed. Day 14: Nearly there! Finally remembered that I don't actually have those sleeping rolls anymore. Finally find some markers to redo my map. Finally snap some of the easiest shots, because they were so easy I hadn't bothered with them yet. Finally finished uploading the last of everything to my post. Done!! Now all I have to do is 'write a story'. Gah. No idea what to write. No idea how to make it a story. Only 1.5 hours left. Aaaah. Start jotting down notes of how the fortnight went. It's 2:15pm, I haven't yet had lunch, or breakfast for that matter. You know what, too bad, this will have to do!!!! But - as far as I can tell, I've done every section, so that makes for a happy little completionist [emoji=gaoler tongue size=1]
Woo!! I am so excited for this event!! - and heehee - I got top of page 2!!!

ENCOUNTERS
There's nothing quite like the great outdoors (until it starts fighting back). Get out there and see what you can discover of Nature's beauty!

#32 - Bird - 10 points

This is a Willy Wag Tail - they are tiny but mighty - they'll actually chase crows away from their territory even though they are heaps bigger!

#33 - Bug - 10 points
"Ok, I'm an Aussie, how hard can this one be - there's gotta be a spider around the house somewhere!" I ask, only to find the house is actually bug free at the moment. But this little critter has been coming in to check out the cat food bowl, between midnight and 2am most nights for the last few weeks. The cat doesn't even seem to notice - he actually ate his food even though the slug was on the other side of the bowl one night!

What on earth made that?! See photo #35.

#35 - Mammal - 10 points

How many places in the world can you get a photo like this?!

#36 - Sunrise or sunset - 10 points

Totally not discussing how much I hate mornings or the fact that I've always said I'm more likely to see a sunrise if I've stayed up late than if I get up early... or that sunrise is at about 7am at the moment. On the other hand, a better photo than any of the sunsets for the last few days.

#37 - Seeds - 10 points

Two examples of dukkah, a middle eastern blend of spices, nuts and seeds. Get some Turkish bread (or ciabatta), dip in olive oil, then dukkah - yum!! The one on the right is actually made by my mum, who sells, pickled olives and a variety of jams and marmalades. Being ground finer helps it stick to the bread (also, the commercial one has very little spice)

#38 - Brick or stone structure - 10 points

Oddly, I struggled with this a little in terms of fun ideas/opportunities. So, you get my 'garden' shed. It's tiny, but I don't have a lot of garden anyway, so I cope.

RELICS
One of the most exciting parts of an adventure is all the artifacts you can collect. Find your own "treasure" (something of value to you) for each of the following.

Ok, I've made it a habit in all my travels to buy a small piece of art and some fridge magnets of the places I go, so I'm gonna use photos of those for this section.

#39 - Black - 10 points

And straight away, I'm breaking my own rule - I was gonna use the same thing for green and black, but thought of a non art piece I can use here instead - I bought this jacket when I lived in Glasgow, and I adore it. It's pure wool, and a really nice fit. It's warm and even waterproof in a light rain!

#40 - White - 10 points

Well, I guess ice counts as white! This is in Banff, Canada in November 2005. I had 4 days there while visiting friends in Montana on my way from Australia to Glasgow, Scotland where I lived for 4 years. Obviously!

#41 - Brown - 10 points

This would be the oldest item from my collection - I got this in Pisa, Italy when I was 13. I think it's so clever using all the different types of wood to create the picture - and intricate!!

hYdaqRPm.png

#42 - Red - 10 points

Not exactly high art, but roses and red are my favourites, so I couldn't resist this when I was in Vienna with my best friend and her sister in December 2009 - a last European trip before I headed home after 4 years in Glasgow Scotland.

#43 - Orange - 10 points

This picture is of a Negrita Puloy, one of the older icons of the Baranquilla Carnavale in Colombia, one of the largest carnavales in the world, which I went to in 2019. And I can tell you, getting to Colombia from Western Australia... is an effort!!

YWAIhm6m.png

#44 - Yellow - 10 points

This is the most recent item in the section! I stayed in Mexico City on my way home from my trip (see above) in 2019... wow, only 2 years ago! The statue is called the Angel of Independence.

#45 - Green - 10 points

I tend to not be drawn to the green spectrum as much, so struggled a bit for this one, so this will have to do. It's another 'early' part of my collection - it was done entirely using spray cans by a street artist in Airlie Beach, Qld, Australia, where I got it on a road trip around Australia I did by myself when I was 22.

#46 - Blue - 10 points

I got this one in Greece in 2008. I was torn between this one, which was much more representative of the area, or another one which didn't really look Greek, but was pretty with a autumn trees, a sunset, mountain and waterfall... so I got both!

NnmgiQam.png

#47 - Purple - 10 points

And finally, Thailand - where I went in ... 2012 I believe it was! Or maybe 2013. I was gonna make a joke about spending One Night In Bangkok, but you're probably all too young.

KEEP YOUR ENERGY UP!

#48 - Outdoor food - 25 points
(no photo needed) Make sure you supply yourself with some good nutrients.

DOCUMENTATION
You did bring a journal, didn't you? Keep track of your findings for posterity.

#49 - Cartography - 40 points
Be a cartographer and test your map-making skills.

#50 - Epic tale - 40 points
(no photo needed) Like a true historian, write a story about your adventure (real or imagined).

gah - creative writing is NOT my forte - just ask my English teachers from school...

But - as far as I can tell, I've done every section, so that makes for a happy little completionist
