Coming in to say after scrying more that the females belly really does look uncomfortably bloated. That's not how fat looks and acts on animals or people. The males and hatchlings look like they have natural fat, the females look really smooth and the way the neck adruptly starts makes it look super unnatural

Hmmm I feel like I should just state plainly that I'm not opposed to fat dragons or fat people. In fact, one of my dragons even celebrates being kind of flabby. Personally, I don't like having extra chub on me (but I do have it) because of inconveniences I don't like (not social ones. Physical ones. It's physically uncomfortable) and because of health reasons. (There's a range of healthy weight and it varies from person to person depending on things like anatomy, preexisting conditions, and genetics.)
A lot of people have done a good job, I think, explaining what they mean when they say they don't like how "fat" the dragon is. It's less about body fat and more about line art/disproportion/where the lines contour in relation to the dragon's anatomy.

Thanks for your kind comments on my edited female, i bring you the male. :) I tried to make them long enough to touch the floor? Maybe? My depth perception is bad.

Agreed, I just want them to look proportionate and healthy. Rhinos look super healthy, elephants look healthy, just proportionate.

i'm fine with a bloated belly. they're not mammalian. maybe she's got eggs in there
edit - or even if they are mammalian - check this out

im very frustrated with the response. i understand not wanting more bug looking dragons but i would perhaps recommend we stop comparing bug dragons to mammals and humans in terms of "health." have you ever seen a tick eat? bugs do not have the same health flags
this isn't directed at any one person and i understand the proportions feeling off - but this sentiment of disease is confusing to me as an entomologist and fantasy enjoyer

Genuine question to the people bringing up the female pose's artwork being "bloated", how could it be changed to not look that way? To me it just looks like how, say, a sausage might look if you bend it in that way. It'll get a bit stretched out sure, but it's not giving "diseased" to me at all. Could it be a suspension of disbelief thing?
Minor edit for spelling.

I skimmed and didn't see anyone answer yet, but yes. It absolutely could be adjusted to look less like the female pose has a digestive disease.
The main issue is that the stomach balloons outward suddenly both under the first arm and at the base of the tail rather than a sloping outward look like bogsneaks have. The shading is also nonexistent in any way that would suggest a texture to the stomach like you see on Snappers, so it looks like the belly is held taut around liquid more like a water balloon than a living breathing creature.
Dusthides have the same issue looking way too smooth to the point they still read as aquatic.
Edit: There's also the sketch here of them with actual strong legs that could carry them properly, and balances their profile out. Even actual caterpillar type legs would have fit better than the tiny skinny things they got.

Thank you for your response! I think I can see it, especially seeing how far back to the tail the extended belly starts. Most examples I was looking at get super busy around that part of the pose so I missed it. The lack of texture is also something that I've definitely noticed as an issue for Dusthides, but I can understand it here too as well.

This is a super small complaint but I kind of wish the male and female poses were swapped.
They seem to be repurposing the underlying architecture of the Fathom design to make the adult poses and I just wish they had swapped male and female like the Skydancer and Coatl.
[b]Overall the female pose feels crowded which will make complex genes feel cluttered.
