I think what could be throwing some off with the female pose is that nearly all of the legs are bent. It's difficult to tell how long they are, and it makes them look too short to touch the ground, so it's just standing on its belly. Or is it posed in flight?

Honestly, I was expecting something like a combination between a glow worm and a gecko. Would've been cool with that for sure. Maybe some feathery bits (like this thing's wings, but actually even smaller.) For me, it's the proportions being everywhere. The head and legs are too small, the horn is too big, the body is too bulbous, and the legs are WAY too stick-like. That's my take on why I personally don't like it. That combination is just so everywhere and lacks cohesion imo. And when you have that kind of lack of cohesion, it's unsettling.
Also, I don't like big-bodied bugs because of how they squish when you crush them. Just ick.

I will admit that I am a little disappointed in them. They are just not what I expected from Light. The hatchlings are something to be desired imo in that I don't think they are that cute (it is the head, body is fine) and I love pretty much all hatchlings. I like the male pose a little more than the female however. I will still get a few of them as I've done with all ancients. They will just be in the same vain as Banescales and Undertides for me as much as I really wanted to love the Light ancient.
Hope one of these days we can get a breed that is more equine like or bird like or maybe dog like. We got enough bugs imo. ^^; I have no problems with them being chubby and do wish the Everlux breed's legs were a little bigger. I do like the name of them though!
And there is always a chance of them growing on me.

Genuine question to the people bringing up the female pose's artwork being "bloated", how could it be changed to not look that way? To me it just looks like how, say, a sausage might look if you bend it in that way. It'll get a bit stretched out sure, but it's not giving "diseased" to me at all. Could it be a suspension of disbelief thing?
Minor edit for spelling.

I skimmed and didn't see anyone answer yet, but yes. It absolutely could be adjusted to look less like the female pose has a digestive disease.
The main issue is that the stomach balloons outward suddenly both under the first arm and at the base of the tail rather than a sloping outward look like bogsneaks have. The shading is also nonexistent in any way that would suggest a texture to the stomach like you see on Snappers, so it looks like the belly is held taut around liquid more like a water balloon than a living breathing creature.
Dusthides have the same issue looking way too smooth to the point they still read as aquatic.
Edit: There's also the sketch here of them with actual strong legs that could carry them properly, and balances their profile out. Even actual caterpillar type legs would have fit better than the tiny skinny things they got.
As someone who’s pretty chunky in person , these new dragons make me feel kind of gross . :(
I don't get this whatsoever, either.
I'll come right out and say it: I'm both short and fat in real life. (I'm also an old lady, so sue me! X3) These guys don't make me feel bad (or any type of way, really) and considering that they have absolutely no human characteristics and are very clearly not a dig at any part of humankind, I honestly don't see how or why they would make anyone feel bad. I'm not trying to be rude, insensitive, or anything at all, but as another "big" person, I just don't get it.

It makes me feel gross because even if there is 0 human characteristics , the immediate view of it’s fat-ness is viewed to be in the stomach and the tail ; these are places ( stomach + “rump” in place of tail ) I often have been “romanticized” for my fat , and without seeing a very even display of the fat around the body , it comes off in that very same bordering inappropriateness to me
I would love a droopier neck , way more visible folds , sagging/hanging skin more prevalent on the wings and/or behind the arms/legs (or make it more noticeable? As some places look it could be sag but also could be muscle) , etc ! It would then feel balanced if there was just a bit more fat on the rest of the body ; this is why I like the hatchlings because they look evenly fat and grubby to me ! But the adult versions again only look fat in the “desirable” places of fat — and hence why as a fat person , I feel gross looking at it

they are awesome. why can't a bookwyrm--which fits with the light lore more than an "angel" does--be a chunky caterpillar?
The design is peak and totally slaps, but can we please stop getting bugs? There's so many other animals that they can be combined with them, but it feels like we keep retreading the same ground.
Lore-wise these guys fall quite neatly into Light Flight, who are historians and scholars. Books are light flight, they are the seekers of knowledge, so a literal bookworm makes sense there.
Also these guys are honestly the least grotesque of light flight's breeds. You have the Pearlcatcher which chews up its eggshell and barfs it up to make a pearl, and continues to spit on it to grow it larger and shinier, and you have the Imperial, a stitched together amalgamation created from strips of leather and corpses(hence why they turn into emperors). A simple fat lil grub dragon fits quite nicely into this IMO. Their lil nose horn and general body shape makes me think of light as well, in a weird way, these guys just look like beings of Light to me.
That outta the way, these lil broskis are quite adorable, i struggle to find a complaint with them. The devs have delivered a wacky unusual ancient like a ton of people(myself included) have desired! They are not my absolute favorite breed but I will be having several in my lair for sure.
The Aether being a bookworm thing is a valid argument and it is weird to have two breeds be so similar(although on opposite sides, Aethers are likely the mortal enemy of Everlux).
TL;DR if i had to choose between a dragon that spits on a wad of eggshells, a literal zombie, and a flying bookworm, I'd say the bookworm fits Light Flight's lore and aesthetics best.

I think they're rad as heck and I immediately thought light flight when I saw them. Major metamorphosis light abomination vibes and I'm so jealous y'all got this glorious spindly legged hero while nature got a snake.
I will be so mad if people cry about it being to fat and get it changed. You got your skinny dog dragons for years man let us who wanted stuff like this vibe
