So I've had a stock the pond style couple since long before the official thread existed, heck they aren't even properly stock the pond rules anymore because the color wheel update made them not perfectly across the wheel from each other. I like making weird dragons and always have.

In 2017 I had an idea for a similar concept that is a bit harder to execute as XXXs are easier to get then other specific color combinations, and I made an approximate pair that I regularly breed but never fully committed to executing the concept as originally thought up.

The concept is mating two XYX, XXY, or XYY dragons, where The Xs and Ys are on far ends of the color wheel. The point being, a stock the pond couple will always produce offspring of the same half of the color wheel, no stock the pond pair will ever make a, say, ruby/orchid/radioactive dragon, which is a fun combo, That only two dragons have.

Heck, you could do this with a two XYZs too, although again it might be a little more challenging to two perfectly opposed dragons.

Is this something other people have considered? Is there any other many player breeding challenges like stock the pond that have different rules? I don't go in the quests and challenge forum often, so I don't really know what other people are doing in this regard.

Yeah! I think about this periodically for XYZs. But it has proven quite difficult to find the opposite-side XYZs of colors that interest me. At least more difficult than I'm apparently willing to undertake. But every now and again I do a search to see if I can find a good pair...

I have also thought about this but haven't sought out dragons for it. I'm sure there are people with pairs, but it's less flashy than the XXX Stock the Pond.

I like the idea. I've vaguely thought about it, but haven't done it.

You could also do it with a triple & a near-miss. Like instead of XXX nightshade with XXX tangerine or pumpkin, you do XXX nightshade with pumpkin/tangerine/pumpkin. And you could breed a near-miss fairly easily by nesting a triple tangerine with a triple pumpkin.

I can't remember if I have any of these, but I do have number of generic wide-range pairs, that is, not on opposite ends but not exactly narrow, either. Most of them are breeding for rare genes to yeet onto the AH.

I think my Stock the Pond guys sell the best, though. It's a wonderful program!

It's definitely a thing in Stock the Pond! I had the same general idea as you when I first saw the thread and asked the thread runner if they'd be cool with me doing double and XYZ pairs instead, and their response was basically, "Go for it." I ended up with five pairs, though I'm only actively breeding two of them these days because my self-imposed offspring naming themes got to be too much to keep up with. :P Still, I found pairs for XXY, XYY, XYX, and XYZ (twice), which are the last five pairs in this tab for anyone that wants a quick look. One of the XYZs is actually the dragon in my sig, too. ^_^

You can also see a handful of double and XYZ pairs listed at the bottom of the Active Anglers post in the official thread, though the post hasn't been updated since 2022 so who knows how many more there might be. (Not that I blame the thread runner, the STP idea really took off and that'd be a lot to keep updated.)

I've definitely seen a lot of different STP pair types! Getting a pair of doubles and XYZs can be really tricky though so I can see why most people stick to XXX pairs. I myself recently finished my only XYZ pair where one dragon's gene slots splits the color wheel into thirds (kinda hard to explain but you can see her here) and then her mate just has the opposite colors for each of those. The only issue was I had to breed and gene both her and her mate myself so that took a while. I'd love to do something similar with an Imperial pair to get more weird colors into that pool but man I really do not want to go through that work again lol. :x

But yeah definitely go for it if you're interested! Being able to get weird and interesting color combos is basically the point of STP and there's only so much a XXX pair can do for that. The more variety the better! :D

Yes, I've definitely seen these in the STP thread :)

There are no hard and fast rules, so if you want to breed two dragons that are say XXY with the Y being the other side of the wheel than the Xs then go for it :3

Also XYZ could be hella fun, but i'd imagine finding them an opposite mate would be hell xDD

I know the STP discord accepts XXYs, XYXs, and even XYZs that are opposites! It still matches the spirit of STP, after all. Bonus tidbit, they also have trios to get the entirety of the colorwheel. While I've only seen these with triples myself, I know I've tried finding another for my XXY pair (featured below).
