Flight Rising Discussion

Discuss everything and anything Flight Rising.
TOPIC | Tell me some weirdly wholesome lore!
1 2 3
What it says on the tin; share some lore that would be unsettling/creepy/disturbing but it actually is just hiding something wholesome I.e. a random dragon falls in love with an eldritch horror, and the eldritch horror actually loves them back!

I might use your stories as inspiration too for my own, or not.

NOTE:
I put this in flight rising discussion because idk where else to put this topic.

Not sure if this counts (seems more sad than wholesome) but: Nasher here is stuck in a rather vicious cycle with his sister Acalendra, but is trying to break it. Acalendra went through some pretty bad stuff at a young age, but unlike her brother she never learned to control herself, and so when she goes into bouts of frenzied hunger it’s up to Nasher to keep her down so she doesn’t hurt anyone or herself in the process. Typically this involves a long and painful fight, culminating in Nasher using magic to put Acalendra to sleep until the frenzy wears off. Until she wakes up, he guards her with his life. This is a necessity, since Acalendra’s presence threatens the power balance among others in the Rift- she’s seen as the top of the hierarchy, and many beings often come to attack or challenge her in hopes of ascending. I headcanon that the Lionfish markings on his body are where scars have healed badly, permanently red and furious. He struck a deal with another dragon- in exchange for his help in patrolling the Rift and eliminating any beings they deem threats, Acalendra will be given full protection and care in the event of his demise. Nasher knows it’ll come sooner than expected, and so is doing his best to teach his sister everything she needs to know before he goes. He hopes she’ll learn everything in time, and holds great faith in her. Hrm. I'm having a hard time judging from my own perspective what counts. Like what is spooky and creepy enough while also wholesome to count. Maybe Hank counts? He's a personality formed from the union of parasite and host, being largely a worm that parasitizes the warm-blooded breeds of dragon. He's upsetting for all the reasons any mind-controlling parasite would be upsetting. But he's also extremely nice and his only desire in life is to become a doctor, which he is currently studying to be. On account of being very nice and extremely co-operative. Hank may be a worm but it is in his wormy nature to like dragons. I probably have more of the reverse, of situations and people that seem nice but are actually creepy and spooky.

Alan is a soul bound to a set of armor. his original clan serves a strange entity who eats the souls of their exalted, and Alan was slated for that very same fate. as a final protest, he enchanted a set of armor to trap his soul upon the event of his death. some time after all had come to pass, Cerys found his armor on a scavenging mission, and made contact with his spirit. she wasn't sure if he was malevolent or benevolent, but she made the executive decision to trust him because she's foolhardy and too curious for her own good. now he protects her and her family, and the proximity to positive energy helps heal some of the damage dealt to his soul in return! Hm... I think the closest I have is a weird found family trio that consists of a dangerous information broker (Desire), a mercenary for hire (Stratus), and a silly little guy who can't take care of himself because he's too busy living in an imaginary world (Paracosm). 2/3 of these dragons can and will make you disappear (usually if it puts their group at risk), and the last one seems innocent, but he knowingly helps the other two dissect the psyche of clients and potential targets. So uh... a mix of "wait that's not good" and "aw but they're wholesome and care about each other :)"

I also have a group of pirates called the Red Tide that look scary and dangerous on the outside, and they are, but they're also a big found family dynamic. Not sure how well they fit the creepy/disturbing but wholesome vibe, but there's a cursed Gaoler who looks somewhat like an eldritch horror, but he's actually a big softie. Also a poison-obsessed Nocturne, who's also a great chef (and for some reason everyone has complete trust that he won't poison them all). Oh yeah, and a cyborg who's more of a robot, who makes weapons and is a weapon himself, but also has a deep appreciation for all living things and is surprisingly compassionate despite his cold demeanor. There's a bunch of weirdos on that ship /affectionate

The last ones I can think of that kinda fit are:

Sardonyx, who collects cursed objects and subsequently is cursed because of it. He's generally regarded as a cryptid of some sort, mysteriously appearing in the dead of night to procure any cursed possessions that are discovered. He's plagued by horrific visions, but is unbothered by them, and is just having a great time collecting stuff. As an added bonus, he's saving lives by safely securing dangerous artifacts before they can hurt anyone. Or, hurt anyone else, anyway.

Fade, a dragon who works in a supposedly haunted museum, usually serving tea to guests. She doesn't speak, has a very unsettling presence, and is often followed by strange shadows. There's definitely something... off, about her, but she seems to really like the museum's owners, and is happy to help maintain the building and tend to its guests.

my icon dragon, Dreamer, is a Plushie Obe. my headcanon is that StitchPatch Obes turn into soft cuddly plushies when they enstone; Dreamer, being a permababy, stays in the nursery and cuddles with all other hatchlings in the clan. very comfy!
I have two other Plushie Obe permas, Toybox and Partypatch, but they don't have lore yet.

i don't do "frightening but wholesome" so much as "frightening but just chilling out" so the closest i have is probably One, a living nightmare who is business partners (read: soulmates) with my resident dream mage. his part of the job is sitting around and looking pretty

my clan laughs at the antics of the dragons the arcanist sends to study luminax some smaller dragons actually nest in a hole in the thing's side and come to my clan to wash up. So much foul language so much stench, but magic recharged and much sweets given to their hatchlings.

I have two abbies, Gristle and Grimshild. They're two nasty murderous twins. They were adopted by the clan as hatchlings when the clan found both of them wreaking havoc in their hoard. They've now raised these blood-loving hellraisers to help hunt and to help protect the clan. The two twins are very close.

I also have a plague mirror who looks very scary but is probably the biggest softy in the entire lair. He's the one that saw these two nasty abbies that had just destroyed a month's worth of food supply and said "Aww, can we keep them?"

I've also got a dragon who regularly accidentally summons eldritch horrors at the mage school. The rest of the mage school treats it like a running joke. "Okay, Luxnoctis, what did you summon this time?" "Oh, there's a giant five-legged spirit wandering around crushing everything? Must be Tuesday."
