Extended Lore:
In secret laboratories and college dorms, scientists experiment with life itself. They find scraps of abandoned toys from the trash and scraps of dead flesh from the graveyards. They stitch together a new being. Infusing these creatures with life, many immediately abandoned their creations, setting them free in the world. These were the most common ways of creating the Misfit Toys in the beginning, and a toy's most common emotions in the first few days are often fear and confusion.
For many days and weeks (and sometimes even months), these creatures wander Sornieth lost and afraid, often not being able to speak the language or find assistance. The first few days of a Misfit Toy's life are cold until they find another just like them, not a normal dragon with a stitched pattern but a toy like them. In the most common cases, this toy will lead them above and away from the mainland of Sornieth. And on an island separate from the flights, they will find paradise. This is the Island of Misfit Toys.
Here, toys from all around once gathered and lived together, happy and free to be themselves. The island was first established by toys many years ago, and generations had gone by in peace and isolation from the rest of the world. This island was the home for the toys and the families they formed here. It was like paradise. However, the one thing we should remember from the old fables is that paradise is often fleeting.
A hurricane, greater than any since the hurricane that swept away the Tidelord himself, barreled through the island, destroying everything in its path. Buildings and greenery were leveled, and toys were swept away in the wind left and right. Families separated, lives uprooted... Misfit Toys face many hardships in life, but this was the worst tragedy that could ever befall a toy...
Many toys were swept back to the mainland of Sornieth, including the separated mates of Gwydion and Clement. Many felt they were left with nothing, falling into a deep depression. However, many like Gwydion and Clement saw light through the dark. They had learned so much from the island and had survived so much -- they could take on anything in the world. Clement set out to find Gwydion while Gwydion began training as a mage.
Their hope and optimism paid off. Within months, they were reunited. This proved a few things, that the society of the Misfit Toys was not gone for good, hope and love shine through all hardship, and that misfits stick together. And so, they out to find and document the former citizens of the Island of Misfit Toys and maybe even find those who never found the island in the first place.
Since they made this resolution, they have established the Council of Misfit Toys to document and categorize toys, have reunions, and target the unethical creation of Misfit Toys by rogue scientists and now, more recently by factories in the Shifting Expanse. Clement is trying to spread the idea that the island is not necessarily a physical place but a place in their hearts and minds. They do not have to have their own island to be a society.

Facts:
Contrary to what it may seem, Misfit Toys can reproduce with other toys (and sometimes with dragons). The children of Misfit Toys are able to avoid the sad, dark days of newly created toys while retaining the traits of their parents.
The lifespans of Misfit Toys differ from those of dragons and differ based on the method of creation. Frankenstein's Monsters, being made of old and rotted parts, usually live only half of the lifespan of an average dragon of that breed. This is due to the degradation of these parts. Haunted Dolls and Animatronics usually live longer, depending on how old the toys that make them up are. Strange Ones usually live the same length as an average dragon of their breed as their bodies simulate those of dragons. Producables usually live longer than dragons do (however this is not confirmed due to the newness of the type), being made of brand-new parts and put together by state-of-the-art machinery. Despite the lifespans of their parts, one perk of being a toy is that they can replace their parts (as they were never theirs to begin with), meaning toys can be functionally immortal. However, this can be a painful process, so many toys will only do this if their body is on its last leg (figuratively and sometimes even literally).
The newest discovered type, the Novelties, are said to live longer than the Animatronics and the Haunted Dolls but shorter than the Strange Ones. This is, however, yet to be confirmed.
Most toys are immune to sickness. However, the most common ones, Frankenstein's Monsters and the Strange Ones, are susceptible to many dragon illnesses. For monsters, this is because of their dragon parts, and for Strange Ones, this is because of their parts, which simulate dragon parts. Death from illness is rare but not unheard of for toys.
Concerning death, any number of things can shorten a toy's lifespan such as fire, sharp objects, and or even mold.
The Council has it as a long-term goal to offer a service for replacing parts.
