These are called "Faux Hybrids" and can contribute to creating a subspecies. An example would be sending a [gamedb item=640] towards a Bilworper. This will change the Bilworper dramatically by giving it (as an example) 4 legs and a horn, which is a near complete remake in every aspect of the afamiliar.
