Next, he prepared the Fresh Trunk by cutting the meat into slices and simmering the meat with Sweet Potato Vine sauce and onion. The aroma of the fresh trunk as it sizzled in the pan made Vulcan excited - he could almost taste it from the smell alone! The unique bowl had to go with something! Errato fashioned some tiny flowers from the wild onions to sprinkle onto the dish, cracked a Black Orpington egg over the donburi, and carefully placed a decorative Bullephant Mask to the side of the bowl to represent the main ingredient. Now that the fanfishes were cleared of their fins, she peeled off the fish skin, picked off the bones, taking the fish's prime cut - a top loin - and slicing it daintily in medium-sized slices. Next, she dug through the stash of ingredients™ to take out Deep Sea Lobster, cleaning its meat out and setting it aside to slice. Finally, a Broadstripe Uaru was cleaned and finely sliced to compliment the Fanfish sashimi and lobster! [/columns] [item=Deep Sea Lobster][item=Killer Fanfish][item=Broadstripe Uaru][item=Ancient Knife] [columns] [nextcol] [emoji=ridgeback winking size=1] Errato Errato was really excited to put this dish together! Using the Blue Lobster as a base, she put different fish sashimi on each shell link of the abdomen, fanned out the lobster tail, and propped the lobster head upright. She decorated the carapace by using the leftover Killer fanfish fins, as well as bamboo horns, wild onion whiskers, and a decorative bamboo mask to imitate the Cloudsong. [/columns] [columns] [emoji=tundra laughing size=1] Vulcan "I've got just the right items to enhance the dish!" said Vulcan. The tundra added some Bamboo Leaves to bring out the taste of Cloudsong Fanfish sashimi more. He lined the dish with delicious Olympia Oysters, and placed a small plate of soy sauce beside to taste. Pressing finely-weighted Winter's Delight in a process known as débourbage, Vulcan produces wine with a pure taste of the fruit. He mixes the wine with Fogflower hearts to give a distinctive taste and siphons it to get rid of any particles suspended in the blend. In the second fermentation process, Vulcan adds Stardust mite essence mixed with Dusk Aconite to give that sparkling flavour in the champagne. He hopes the aconite would help bring out the stardust essence a bit more and give it a special memorable nighttime flavour, perfect to end off any fancy meal in a starstruck mood! Carefully, he pours the finished champagne into a flute glass, chilled, to serve. She reached into the big box and took out some chocolate box that looked like premium artisanal material! Serenity had a very good eye for these things, being a gourmet herself, and she confirmed her conjecture by eating the chocolates. Oh, it tasted so rich! A ganache center, coated in fine grade chocolate and sprinkled with hazelnuts, it melted in her mouth instantly and made her ecstatic! In the fancy box, a scroll was tucked neatly into the corner. Serenity unrolled the piece of paper and looked at it with interest. [ Challenge yourself to Shock Switch and you would gain more than mere treasure ] Is this some kind of fortune? Serenity didn't need money, she wanted good food. Though, it didn't hurt to try out the Shock Switch stall for fun and curiosity anyway!

"Ugh, I don't know." Vulcan looked nauseous. "It was some chocolate from the same box you took, but it tastes like... snot..."

After getting some bandages and an ice pack to soothe her bruise, Serenity decided to try out the new chocolate booth!

This is what being in one's element looks like.

There's no sound except for the clack of knives on a cutting board and the sizzle of oil in a pan.

Gladys gives the acorns, chestnuts, mushrooms, and fogflower hearts a toss in a skillet with their chosen herbs and spices. She's not looking to fully cook them; just develop a nice crust and bring out the flavor.

Spire meanwhile, slices the bullephant tusk into rounds. Some flour and oil in the base of the pot, and she sets the chunks of meat to develop a fond.

"How's the mite-powder coming along?" is the first sentence spoken since they started working.

"Just about ready," Gateau nods, holding up a mortar full of glittering stardust. "This stuff is great for warmth enchantments. Sometimes I put it in sweet loafs to keep them warm long past their time in the oven."

"That'll come in handy," Spire nods.

Gladys makes fast work of their veggies; onions are finely chopped, potatoes are cubed, and carrots are cut into discs.
It's a conscious decision to scrub the carrots and potatoes well, but leave their skins on.
The flowers are washed well, but won't be added until near the end.

For a while, the they just have to let the stew cook. Gateau had a yeast starter going so they figured some bread would go with it, so the oven is in use as well.
The aroma fills the air, making cleanup seem like it takes forever.

"...Are you sure this fits the delicacy theme?" Gateau asks "not that I have a problem with a fresh bowl of stew, but it's not what I'd call fine dining."

"Delicacy doesn't mean fancy; it just means something that's prized," Spire explains from watching the stew. "Whether you're enjoying it out of fine china or a tin cup, it'll still be delicious."

"You do have a point," Gateau nods "Hmm...I can't wait to have some; cooking is hard work."

Finally, it's time to plate up their dish.

A big bowl of stew with flowers sprinkled over top and some makes a fine sight.

They give it a taste to decide if they think it's fit for the judges.

After accounting for just a bit more salt (potatoes seem to sap it out of every dish, don't they?), they decide they're satisfied.

"Mmm, nice and warm," Gateau dunks her slice of bread into the stew "This makes me feel all cozy in bed."

"Aswoni food does that to you," Spire smiles "I gotta keep my hunters in good shape."

"...Spire? I know that at the start of this we were teasing each other a lot, and I wanna...I wanna thank you," Gateau twirls a lock of fur around her claw "You've taught me a lot this week, and I feel like I owe you an apology for all the teasing."

"Hey, don't get all mushy on me; only Gladys is allowed to do that!" Spire laughs, mock-punching the obelisk in the shoulder.

"Hey! Why are you bringing me into this?!" Gladys tries to frown, but she's too close to laughing.

"You've been really quiet lately, are you okay?"

"I'm just glad you two are getting along; I don't wanna butt in," Gladys sticks her tongue out sheepishly.

"Excuse me?! We want to hang out with you!"

"...You're going to start selling them?"

"Of course! I'm going to credit you guys since I wouldn't have been able to even think about that kinda project if you didn't help with all the prep!"

"How are we going to get better if we don't get tips from the best in the business?"

Gladys stares at the ground, blushing

"Well...if you're sure...."

The whole "Let's go to the chocolate roulette table!" idea was Gateau's idea, for the record.

Nobody called Spire a coward, and Gladys was a good sport.

Gateau got a box so she could get repeats (she claimed it was in the name of science, but her companions suspected she wanted to prank an unsuspecting clanmate)

"We each put the whole chocolate in our mouth, and close our eyes; no cheating!" Gateau explains.

Spire looks unenthused, but Gladys seems optimistic.

"Ready? Go!"

Spire and Gateau's faces ease up after chewing for a moment.

"Ohh, Cinnamon loach~!" Gateau chirps in delight. "For a moment I was scared it was hot pepper!"

"Salted Caramel. That's pretty good."

Gladys, however, momentarily furrows her brow before swallowing.

"Wasabi."

"What? No way, you're lying; if that were wasabi you'd have way more of a reaction," Gateau insists, searching the box "What did it look like?"

"It's the oval one," Gladys points, before Spire offers her a Salted Caramel truffle to wash the horseradish flavor away.

"That's mint, Gladys; you probably felt the cool and mistook it for heat," Gateau pops one in her mouth.

...

...

"THAT'S WASABI," Gateau shoves the box into Spire's paws. "OHHHHH THAT IS WASABI!!!!!!" She bounds off to go get some water.

"Should've trusted you," Spire shakes her head.

"I think she forgot that I'm a sushi chef," Gladys titters. "Oh, hold on; there's something in my teeth--"

She pulls out a small piece of paper.

"...'Your flight's deity smiles today."

...Hmm, is Ursus handing out fortunes too?
