It is notable as a Wind territory because it has a high concentration of beastclans. This makes the Cirocco territory somewhat dangerous for outsiders to traverse. Fiora was a dragoness without a clan of her own. Unfortunately, she had her work cut out for her. Being a fae, the lack of trees on the plateau presented a problem But she was nothing, if not persistent. She spent her days digging a burrow, lining it with sap from the stiff stalks of bamboo. Though her claws were not meant for cutting through dirt and rubble, she chipped away. Her lair was small, and her hoard was smaller, but it was something. When she wasn't resting, digging, or eating, she would pray. Adoring herself with the fragrant flowers that grew on the steppes, lighting bundles of herbs like incense. She spent nights making pleas to the Windsinger. She wished for more dragons to join her. And the Windsinger was faithful.[nextcol][color=transparent]_____[nextcol]There came a day where Fiora was digging, when a shadow loomed over her, and powerful claws tore through the earth before her as though it were nothing. When she looked up, a maned beast with a soft smile looked down at her, [i]"It looks like you need help; I can dig!"[/i] Ajax, who at the time was a tundra as gold as the sun, would join Fiora. He dug out a proper burrow for the two to live in, and provided protection. Fiora would gather food; bounding after the swift crickets that populated the cliffs, and stripping the bamboo of its leaves for Ajax to eat. As time passed, she honed her skills; she went from hunting measly crickets to large locusts. And from plucking leaves from bamboo to finding fresh fruit and tubers. With more nutritious food, they could work longer. Though in their routine, they decided they were best suited as friends, rather than mates, there would be no clan without hatchlings. So they cleaned the ground with brushes, fashioned from reeds that Ajax tore from the earth, and lined it with soft grasses. Stakes of bamboo protected the nest from when the winds were so eager, they could tumble over rocks. They tried for hatchlings. Fiora continued her prayers. And the Windsinger was faithful again.[/columns] Weeks turned to months. Hatchlings were raised. Travelers in the territory stayed for the night and then could never bring themselves to leave. The tiny family grew into a sizable group of dragons. And though he may not always give the clan exactly what they want, the Windsinger has always, [i]always[/i] been faithful. Winters in particular are brutal, as the high altitude, powerful winds, and rocky terrain makes it difficult for plants and animals to grow. Most dragons that live in Galehart live in "The Hearth"; a large cave network within the mountains. However, there are more solitary dragons that form their own lairs, and keep to themselves. Longneck are the primary non-dragon race that lives in this area, though small centaur herds are not uncommon in the lower altitudes [nextcol][color=transparent]__________[nextcol]Calpernum, to the southeast of Galehart, is far more temperate, and is the only subregion with significant forest growth. Calpernum is the most heavily settled of the regions, and is frequented by scholars and magic users. This region is ruled by Fiora's eldest daughter, Leiora. The Aswon Wilds is in the midwest of Cirocco, and is one of the more difficult regions to live in. The ground is difficult to farm, and the southernmost border is heavily populated by Harpies. Most Aswoni dragons are hunters, though artisans and crafters are also vital to their community. They tend to pack up for safety. The Shengu valley lies between the two mountain ranges on the westernmost side of Cirocco, with access to the Windstar bay. It's the most fertile of the subregions, and farmers, fishers, and other artisans tend to live here. The most prominent beastclan are Maren, though Serthis will occasionally dock in the ports. Outsiders to the territory, especially those not native to the Windflight, often don't know the routes to take to avoid beastclan interaction, meaning misunderstandings between Cirocco dragons and beastclans happen, and can cause tension if not immediately pacified. Cirocco dragons are often hesitant to allow outsiders into their territory without guides, because of this, which other clans might interpret as being unnecessarily secretive or strict. Another point of tension is religious freedom; many beastclan natives have integrated into Cirocco society, but wish for the freedom to worship Talona, who dragons believe is actively against dragonkind. This is a hot-button topic in politics, and can spark huge arguments between dragons that otherwise get along just fine. On one hand, dragons are allowed to worship any deity they wish, even if that deity might not be the Windsinger. On the other hand, not much is understood about Talona and her followers, meaning that there's a lot of fear surrounding the idea of allowing Beastclans to worship her in the midst of dragons. [nextcol][color=transparent]_____[nextcol]Interclan relationships are difficult to explain and manage; Fiora is very pro-Beastclan, and considers refusing Beastclans anything that dragons would consider basic rights a hate crime. However, not all dragons share this belief, meaning that she is usually not vocal about this rule in her own territory when talking to other leaders. She knows that being silent on the matter doesn't help Beastclan natives, but is wary about making the wrong move or angering the wrong ruler. While the Cirocco clan doesn't pick rulers based on heritage, but rather on leadership abilities, Leiora, Fiora's eldest daughter, is the Duchess of Calpernum, and is currently in line for the throne when Fiora steps down. Leiora is adopted, and feels as though she had to fight to prove she deserves to be a leader, so when Fiora's youngest, Mimi, was born, and looked exactly like her mother, there was a great deal of tension. Mimi currently lives as a priestess, doing anything the can to avoid Leiora's wrath.
