I’ve heard of something called a stud used in hatcheries, my understanding is, it’s a dragon that player can request to breed with their dragon(s), is that right? If so, could you elaborate on that please? Like what exactly is the etiquette and protocol and whatnot

I've never used a stud service myself, so I don't know what the typical etiquette is.
I do however rent nests from others, and I imagine the process is similar. Any time a service is provided that require someone to send their dragon to someone else's nest, mutual trust is required. The specific rules probably just depend on the owner of the stud.
In the Dragon Trading forum, you may be able to find threads of breeding associations or other clubs that offer stud services from vetted members. Even if you don't order a stud through them, browsing their rules will probably give you a good idea of what to expect.
If I were looking for a stud, I would be prepared in a couple different ways. If I could afford one, I would purchase a Boon of Fertility to use on the nest so that the mating is instant. This is just nicer for everyone involved. If I was planning to host the stud in my own nest, I would make sure to have enough food on hand that I could return the stud to its owner at full energy. I would also be prepared to give collateral, with a few options to choose from. If I were planning to have the stud's owner host the nest, then I would vet them to the best of my ability to make sure that they were honest and reputable by renting through a breeding association, or by checking through their old forum posts to make sure no one is accusing them of dragon theft or something.
