I know why the change was made, but I liked when we threw whole familiars in Baldwin’s pot and the goofy image edits that came out of that. Speaking of Baldwin...

I don't think any of the other NPC dragons have gone through a breed change since him. The intrigue and hype his gradual transformation generated was incredible.

Yeah, I also want two letter names back :( I have a couple before they went away, but I had to butcher another dragon's name because the OC's name (I base/name the majority of my dragons after my personal OCs) is two letters :(

Old seafoam. Never forgive, never forget. (hyperbole obviously but I do really miss it!)
I'll add OG maize to that. RIP. I don't know why they changed it with the expansion without saying anything :( I had to replace a beloved dragon who was triple seafoam because I just don't like the "revamped seafoam"

People have lives off of computers.
^ this. and that's all i'm gonna say on that matter, talking about forced item retirement makes me angry LOL as for the OP: i also wish we'd gotten the alternate hatchling art, especially now with hatchling accent/skins and the silhouette scroll.

Yeah as someone who has been around since 2013, who missed the first Brightshine by a month and can now never realistically obtain a Light Sprite, do not bring back item retirement. There are literally zero good arguments for it coming back and no reason for it to exist on what is supposed to be a casual pet collection sim. Not even big games like FFXIV permanently retire annual event items (all previous event items can always be bought on the online store and are always put on sale when said annual events roll around). They also occasionally re-run non-annual events such as crossover events, wherein new players can still get the same rewards that old players did.

Anyway, I can't really say that I actually miss all that much since my site activity has been pretty sparse up until recently. Most major events like the colorwheel expansion completely went over my head and I never even noticed the changed colors, ect.

I have to agree though that the old trading post art was a lot more fun, you could say. I get that the buttons are easier to navigate but if you ask me, button mode should've just been a toggle for the people that want/need it. It also makes me wonder what the grand exchange would've looked like if they had gone the art route instead of buttons.

i *really* wish flight rising kept its registration windows, there really was no better time to be a newbie than during those times because it really felt like people celebrated all the newcomers and in the process you slowly got to understand the site's forum culture.
nowadays, it's a bit of a lost feeling. sure, people are nice to you if you're new and looking for guidance/aid, but in the downtime between registration windows i feel like it gave you, The New Guy, an ample amount of time to also be one of the people welcoming others and effectively doing Your part as a member of the community.

it wasn't a perfect era and was the effect of having such limited server power compared to now, but i've learned to really appreciate it especially in a modern age rat race of rapid fire social media and endlessly poorly handled discord servers. is it wrong to yearn for those walled gardens again? is it just my 2014 flight rising nostalgia through rose-tinted lenses? probably yes to both of those. but i miss forum culture and those early web 2.0 walled gardens, it really felt like you got to know people once you were let in and its an experience that sticks with you

As someone who joined during a registration window, I absolutely wouldn't want them back, because a lot of people just...gave up on the site because they couldn't sign up.

Please never bring that back.

For most people, festivals are just business as usual, and a free week of dom for the festival flight.
And why is the way to go about that to punish anyone who, for any reason, can't participate?
In what world is rewarding participants of an event translating as 'punishing' people who don't do it. This is such a bizarre take, and it's real concerning to see how pervasive it is among so many gaming communities.
Bc that's how it feels. Even if it's not always logically true, that's how it feels to people who can't participate (esp for reasons beyond their control) and therefore miss out on things out of circumstance. A lot of people don't feel like "being present" is enough of an advantage to warrant a retired item that is forever out of reach for the rest of the population. I'd argue that eggrot was more of an active punishment than the concept of being unable to get things because you weren't present during a specific window of time, but the latter still feels like being penalized -- and I believe that Staff should do their best to avoid that kind of FOMO. You want people coming to the site because it's fun, not bc they're anxious they're going to miss something that will never come back. On topic: I also hope that one day two letter names will be allowed again.
