For some reason I'm just imagining telling my mom who's fluent in chinese that "mirror" is actually one of the breeds in this game.
"??????????????????" "??"
But jing ling for faes is actually adorable to me oml
For pearlcatcher, I asked my dad and he went with "zhua1 zhu1 long2" I think just translates to "grab pearl dragon" or something.
"pearl grabbers"?

edit: oh ofc it's all question marks, how could i forget
I've never though about this! Let me give a try for german. Shouldn't be that hard, you can make a name out of almost anything, just smash the words together. Banescale - Fluchschuppe/Unheilschuppe (not really great...) Bognseak - Moorschleicher (cute but suspicious, I like it) Coatl - Coatl Fae - Fee Gaoler - Gefängniswärter (awful. you could shorten it to Wärter though) Guardian - Wächter/Hüter/Beschützer (I think these are all a good fit) Imperial - Kaiserlich Mirror - Spiegel Nocturne - Nocturne Pearlcatcher - Perlenfänger (that's a cute one) Ridgeback - Kammrücken (quite literal) Skydancer - Himmelstänzer (also a cool one) Snapper - Schnapper Spiral - Spirale Tundra - Tundra Veilspun - Schleiergesponnen (doesn't really work... especially since it's past tense) Wildclaw - Wildklaue/Wildkralle (that's a okay. sounds like a warrior cats name tho)
I'd probably go with 'Schleierweber' for Veilspun... it would actually mean Veilspinner (or Veilweaver.....) but it sounds nice. Also I'm a fan of Unheilschuppe, it sounds so over the top and dramatic [emoji=banescale laughing size=1]

Banescale - Fluchschuppe/Unheilschuppe (not really great...)
Bognseak - Moorschleicher (cute but suspicious, I like it)
Coatl - Coatl
Fae - Fee
Gaoler - Gefängniswärter (awful. you could shorten it to Wärter though)
Guardian - Wächter/Hüter/Beschützer (I think these are all a good fit)
Imperial - Kaiserlich
Mirror - Spiegel
Nocturne - Nocturne
Pearlcatcher - Perlenfänger (that's a cute one)
Ridgeback - Kammrücken (quite literal)
Skydancer - Himmelstänzer (also a cool one)
Snapper - Schnapper
Spiral - Spirale
Tundra - Tundra
Veilspun - Schleiergesponnen (doesn't really work... especially since it's past tense)
Wildclaw - Wildklaue/Wildkralle (that's a okay. sounds like a warrior cats name tho)

I'd probably go with 'Schleierweber' for Veilspun... it would actually mean Veilspinner (or Veilweaver.....) but it sounds nice.
Also I'm a fan of Unheilschuppe, it sounds so over the top and dramatic
There're actually a list of commonly used translated names among Chinese players! Some of them are literal, some are smart and weird at the same time lolll Bogsneak is *NECK* (I guess it's because that's pronounced bozi so-) They even have translated names for all genes, colors, etc. I am actually very amazed every time I think about that because I usually just stay in english-speaking online spaces and don't really interact with that group of player. I may be late to the party, but this subject interests me and while Finnish translations have already been provided, I thought it might be fun to try to work them a bit more.

So here goes, Finnish 2.0. Apologies for the massive post, I am a nerd. If anyone actually reads this, you have my sincerest thank yous lmao.

Guardian: Vartija / Kaitsija / Kaitsin
”Vartija” is a direct and fitting translation, but as that same word can be used for Gaoler, I thought ”katsija/kaitsin” as an alternative. It also implies guarding as a form of caretaking rather than restricting, so lore-wise it might be more accurate even.
Mirror = Peili
Only a rather direct translation for this feels accurate, tho I’d personally wanna push ”Peilinkäinen” as a fun diminutive that makes the word roll off your tongue a bit better and feels more like a species name than a simple ”peili”.
Fae = Keiju / Keijukainen / Haltia
Direct translation as well fits here, though I might also suggest ”haltia” if we go for a more elven-like feel of fae.
Tundra = Tundra
Boring direct translation again, no alternatives to offer and it works as tundra is in common usage.
Snapper = Napsija
In reference to snapper turtles, ”napsijakilpikonna”.
Spiral = Spiraali / Kierre / Kierteinen
Spiraali is an anglism of the word spiral, so alternatives could be a direct translation (kierre) or an adjective of it (kierteinen).
Coatl = Coatl / Koatl / Koaatli
If I’m correct, this is in reference to the Quetzalcoatl so I think just ”coatl” works fine as it’s naturally rather easy to pronounce in Finnish. But since C is not a native alphabet in Finnish, it could be replaced with K to imply proper pronunciation. I think I’ve also seen in the past Quetzalcoatl finnish-fied as ”Kvetsalkoaatli”, so I threw the Koaatli in there as well.
Ridgeback = Harjasselkä / Harjaselkä
I think ”harjas” in this case is the most accurate translation for ”ridge” as it can mean a mane and shares the root word with mountain ridges (harjanne). ”Harjaselkä” could be another version to get rid of the double S in the middle as it makes the word sound a bit clumsy imo.
Skydancer = Taivastanssija / Taivaantanssija
Taivastanssija would be a direct translation and it works, but imo taivaantanssija (dancer of the sky) rolls off the tongue a bit better.
Wildclaw = Villikynsi / Salokynsi
Villi means wild as an adjective/descriptive, while salo means wild as in wilderness. I’m not sure which is the correct meaning here, but ”salokynsi” I think sounds more like a species’ name than ”villikynsi”.
Imperial = Keisari / Keisarinen
Direct translation would be ”keisarillinen” but I think just Keisari (emperor) works better as a species name. Although it runs into problems with, well, actual Emperor dragons. Keisarinen might work as -nen is a diminutive and could imply something that is less than or a small emperor.
Nocturne = Nokturno / Yölaulu / Yökkö
Very difficult to translate, honestly. Nokturno is the translation for nocturne as a musical term but it’s a loan word and doesn’t in and of itself mean anything in Finnish. ”Yölaulu” means ”night song” so it could work though sounds a bit clumsy for a species’ name. ”Yökkö” is a colloquial word for a moth with root word in yö (night), implying something that lives in the night, so it might be a fun way to call Nocturnes as well.
Pearlcatcher = Helmisieppari
Rather direct translation. Catcher can also be translated to ”pyydystäjä” but it implies some form of active hunting, while sieppari necessarily doesn’t and is used for instance in the word dreamcatcher (unisieppari).
Bogsneak = Suohiipijä / Korpihiippari / Lettolusmu
Basically I just wanted to go ham with this and find a fun word that rolls of the tongue easily. Finnish has several words for different swamp types, so while ”suohiipijä” is a bit of a boring but direct translation, korpihiippari and lettolusmu (my fav) are somewhat synonymical alternates that I think have a bit more fun rhythm in them.
Banescale = Surmasuomu
”Bane” can be translated rather differently depending on the context. I went with ”surma” (death/murder) because of the alliteration with suomu (scale).
Veilspun = Harsokutojainen / Hunnunkutoma
I constructed two variations for this as I’m not entirely sure if my English skills are good enough to understand veilspun correctly here. Harsokutojainen is a diminutive of ”one who spins gossamer” and hunnunkutoma is just basically ”spun by veil”.
Gaoler = Aarni / Wardija
If I’ve understood correctly, gaoler is somewhat archaic form for jailer? So I tried some archaic or mystical versions here. Aarni is not a true translation, but it’s used in mythology to describe hidden, mysterious treasures usually guarded by something. Wardija is a finnish-fied version of the etymological origin for the Finnish word for guardian, vartija, also used when talking about prison guards specifically (vanginvartija).

Hmmm this is an interesting one! Ok I will give it a try! But I will also add a direct translation for the lols.

In Romania it would be:

Banescale - Urgia solzoasa - Scaly wrath. (Sounds very fairy tail like)

Bogsneak - Misunatorul mlastinii - Swamp cralwer. (This one strait up sounds like some urban or folk legend old women tell to kids to stay away from murky lakes.)

Coalts - Carbuni - Well coal...

Goaler - Temnicer - Turnkey.

Fae - Zana - Pixie

Guardian - Straja - Sentry.

Imperial - Regal - Royal or Majectic.

Mirror - Oglinda - Also mirror or Glass.

Nocturne - Nocturn(lol) - Same thing OR Night dweeler.

Pearlcather - Prinzator de perle - Pearl seeker.

Riddgeback - Spate crestat - Notched back.

Skydancer - Dansatorul cerului - The dancer of heaven.(Oh this one came out super fancy! Eat your hearth out light!)

Snapper - Spargator - Breaker.

Spiral - Spirala - Same thing or Winding!

Tundra - Tundra - Tundra...duh :'D.

Veilspun - Tesator de voaluri - Weaver of veils. (Again very fancy!)

Wildclaw - Gheare salbatice - Same thing.

Some of these were fun while others were confusing!

Please, I've done this for a topic- and location-based short fanfiction that wouldn't have had the right feeling in English... and it felt so weird. *searches for existing things in that overrated language* yay
I can't be the only one who enjoys calling Snappers Schnappi in my mind? As for Moorschleicher... I really like that. I called them Murschleicher in my story for *cough* location reasons (man, who would have thought elementary school history would make the base for my favorite self-written stories?), but yeah, Moorschleicher is definitely my favorite. *curses myself for not using Imperials more, Imperials and Bogsneaks are basically perfect for pseudo-realistic stories in that setting*

Bognseak - Moorschleicher (cute but suspicious, I like it)
Coatl - Coatl
Fae - Fee
Gaoler - Gefängniswärter (awful. you could shorten it to Wärter though)
Guardian - Wächter/Hüter/Beschützer (I think these are all a good fit)
Imperial - Kaiserlich
Mirror - Spiegel
Nocturne - Nocturne
Pearlcatcher - Perlenfänger (that's a cute one)
Ridgeback - Kammrücken (quite literal)
Skydancer - Himmelstänzer (also a cool one)
Snapper - Schnapper
Spiral - Spirale
Tundra - Tundra
Veilspun - Schleiergesponnen (doesn't really work... especially since it's past tense)
Wildclaw - Wildklaue/Wildkralle (that's a okay. sounds like a warrior cats name tho)
