7 was standard when I was new, and I've just kept that number up since. I'll do 5 if I'm particularly lazy, though, or just trying to get through fodder quickly in a battle or something.

level 10.
I know 7-8 is the "normal" level, but I like the 15kt payout! It's more even and easier to calculate with

10. I just like how nice the number is. Also it helps with math if I'm doing something like paying for foddart.

Even when I do consider stopping at 7 my brain always goes "But that's close to 10".
I just love seeing that 0 at the end and as stated it is easier to pay for foddart with 10s that I struggle more finding a level 1-9 than 10.

I level to 12 if I buy the fodder (they're usually very expensive during a push since the cheapest ones sell very quickly).
I can reach 10 if I hatch them tho (I dislike odd numbers, except multiples of 3)

50 dragons from level 7 to level 10 is 49,416*50=2,470,800 xp points.
If you spend the same amount of grinding doing NEW dragons instead, you could have gotten 2,470,800/20,239=122 dragons to level 7.
122*10500=1,281kt. The difference between lvl 10 and lvl 7 in your example was only 225kt. So that's 1,056kt more if you just level more dragons to level 7.
This is why I don't level to 10. Even if you assume your first 50 dragons are free and the 122 are bought at, say 7kt (which is well above fodder floor right now), you still come out 202kt ahead of leveling to 10.
And you get the same amount of loot.
