For me Stained save most of dragons with terrible color (especially some Gene 1), I personal like it a lot because it sometimes become incredible for some dragons The color for this girl is Black/Overcast/Teal And i believe there won't be a better tertiary gene for her For stained you don't need to worry your new generation's tertiary color any more

I like it, but only in very, very specific situations. I imagine I'd like it more if I had any G1s with unfortunate terts, but I'm really picky! I tend to end up with dragons that have terts I want to show off, not hide. And the price is just... no. I'd really rather give a dragon shimmer or glimmer. And I don't like the way most stained dragons either have really washed out colours, or look like they've got a basic tert. I have a dragon who absolutely needs stained, though! Sometimes it fades out the colours in a way that really works, like here. She looks so ghost-y. Summary: it's way overpriced and very hit-and-miss, but when it works, it works (which is true for all genes imo).

I don't like how it makes the other colors look so dull. I understand it can help a bad tert, but personally I would always use Spines to save a dragon.

Also, I don't think the gene should be worth 1200 gems.

Stained is not the gene you can throw on any dragon and it will work. Stained is not Underbelly. It works if you know what you're doing. Also personally, most of the recent gem genes have no business being gem genes. Petals, Butterfly and Stained should all have been treasure releases. Glimmer is the last gem gene that truly deserves to be a gem gene.

I have one dragon I purchased Stained for and feel it was worth the money. It either looks great or just washes a dragon out. Kind of like the Marmite of the tert world P:

Without Stained:

I was never that fond of stained myself, it's really rather expensive for something that's essentially just a filter. But then again; All of these have pre-expansion colours, can you guess which colours? (If you're guessing, no peeking.) The coatls are both gen1s that I gened from scratch, it was expensive, it took a long time. It was worth it!

I didn't like stained first, and I'm still a bit meh about it. However, I think pieabald/paint/stained is a pretty nice combo

I think it is with most genes - some are okay with it while others not so much. Stained in particular has some salt brewing because of the price. The first stained dragon I ever bought was actually just showed on the first page of this thread. The Grey Poison/Grey Toxin/ Pistachio Stained Imperial. I fell absolutely in love with the dear. Stained gave him a subtle pastel appearance. Of course, for lore reasons, I ended up giving him away. x'D But all the same...

Stained can do beautiful work for some dragons. Not every dragon needs to be SameColor/SameColor/Different Color or Similar Color. The gene is particularly successful with PoiTox combos since it can GREATLY mellow down any eyeburning factor. <3
I think the hardest thing about stained is that it only looks good in very specific cases which makes it not a fun gene to breed with, and because of the price, players aren't buying it as much for a single dragon as they would a treasure gene.
Seconding this. I've seen some absolutely gorgeous uses of Stained, but in my opinion, you have to be very picky with what colors will work, which makes it hard to make a breeding pair where the offspring have some variation but all look nice. Thus, there aren't many dragons with Stained bred into them that look as stunning as their parents. In terms of buying scrolls to apply the gene, the price is high enough that people pretty much only do it if they're absolutely sure they like the look.

Most of the time, dragons are so cheap that if you'd need to use Stained to save a dragon's colors, you're better off just getting a new dragon with a different tert, so I'd imagine most people who actually buy it are using it on irreplacable dragons (low/unusual ID, progens, special date G1s...) and not all of those are bred.
