(Multi-Gaze Content warning! Just in case.)

Covered in spines, their face either a skull or a mask crafted from one (which might explain the antlers), the approaching creature seems to be a Mirror dragon, more or less. One lean and ragged enough that it is easy to miss the wiry strength beneath scraps of leather, dulled metal, and tattered dull-brown feathers covering various bits of dragon.

Covering, that is, parts which are not already occupied by spines, or claws, or by the long row of large, pale green eyes down each side of their form.

The Mirror moves in a wary skulk, every eye scanning their surroundings except for the more usual two pairs located on their head. Those eyes are fixed on the curiosity they have found. Their voice, when they speak, is a low, disused rasp, the flow of words erratic as though this is not a much-used skill, and the way they dart in to scrabble briefly at the plaque naming the statue suggests a greater interest in the material than the lettering upon it.

The hasty retreat to safe(?) distance after that moment of boldness is made in a single sidelong leap, as though the Mirror wants as many eyes as possible trained on the statue.

The Mirror circles partway to one side of the curious statue, at what can only be hoped is a safe distance, continuing to mutter much the same. The bony head(?) is held low, their tail lashing, wings nervously a-twitch; fight-or-flight impulses battle a curious drowsiness which causes the Mirror to now and again give a wiggling shake to stir drooping eyes back to full alertness.

This would not, after all, be the first 'dragon statue' Oura has encountered which turned out to be very much alive.

(Having seen the mention in your clan profile, the question is basically 'who is/was Mekong'. Unlike Oura, I am not assuming that the statue itself can speak, but feel free to have another dragon or something do the answering, answer sans roleplaying, or maybe Oura gets no answer to speak of at all. Up to you!)

I think there is a certain... mystery that comes with the magic of Water dragons. For the other kinds of dragons, it's quite easy to understand how they work, and what goes into their magic. But for water dragons, there's no such studying. Not many dragons have seen how or why their clairvoyance works the way it is. And it is the job of a mage to discover the inner mechanics of magic, no matter where it comes from.
[/columns]

Care to fly with me for a bit?” The Obelisk shakes out his wide wings, and his smile almost seems to not reach his eyes as he talks. It’s hard to tell with his mask on. You decide to indulge him in whatever he is planning, regardless. The two of you talk for some time as you fly over the Mangroves, Hymn’s eyes lighting up as you talk about the caverns where you live. He’s launched into a story about how unappreciated Sparkling Stingers are as his attention moves on to something in the distance. As you look out, you see he’s taken you to a beach, the ocean stretching out in front of you as far as you can see. “Remember when you asked me what location most stood out to me? Well, this is it. The ocean that separates the Viridian Labyrinth from the Southern Icefield is the most spectacular thing I have ever seen. Dare I say it puts the Tidelord’s domain to shame. Inside it’s endless waves and sky lie every color dancing together for what seems like forever…I can never paint it the same twice. Only its beauty could ever draw me away from The Windsinger’s home. It is why I live here at the World’s Edge. Now, would you like to see me capture its beauty once more…?” He starts to lay out art supplied before the two of you as he talks. He doesn’t wait for your answer as he starts to explain how to mix colors for the undercoat, though he never once looks away from his pallet to see what you’re doing while he talks.
The crystalline chamber was silent and not a single dragon stirred within the walls. Faces cast in eternal slumber were nearly obscured by the facets of crystal. The two pillars of crystal near the center of the chamber, opposite of each other yet similar as they supported floor and roof, were dark. The chamber itself felt still and stagnant as if the air held its breath. That was until a cold breeze rushed into the chamber. Ancient banners, faded from age, fluttered against the crystalline walls. A violet light pulsed from within one pillar, the light flashed as if it were being shuttered and the repeated flash soon grew rapid. The light went dark before coming back in a brilliant flash, shining through the facets of the crystal pillar to reveal that the source of the light was the violet left eye of Arcyng. His eye was just as faceted as his crystal prison. His body was frozen within the crystal and his four wings were locked in a protective fold as if he were shielding his core. Nothing of Arcyng moved save for the slight relaxation of his eye lid. A deep masculine voice echoed off of the crystal walls, disembodied yet clear as if spoken free of the crystal barrier. “As was tradition with my father before me, I only have three retainers.” The voice echoed and faded until there was nothing but the rustle of the banners. Silence reigned for what felt like forever. A sigh echoed off of the walls. "Their loyalty to me is absolute and chosen out of merit from among the best. The criterion for selection is stringent. All three performed great services to the Clan. Vigilans'Praesul, Myrdin Divinus'Ignis, and Jason Aureus'Oculi are all cunning and mighty warriors in their own right. I am honored to count them as my friends. As I sleep, they patiently await my return." [rule] Response post, please skip!

How do you choose your royal retainers?

The crystalline chamber was silent and not a single dragon stirred within the walls. Faces cast in eternal slumber were nearly obscured by the facets of crystal. The two pillars of crystal near the center of the chamber, opposite of each other yet similar as they supported floor and roof, were dark. The chamber itself felt still and stagnant as if the air held its breath.

That was until a cold breeze rushed into the chamber. Ancient banners, faded from age, fluttered against the crystalline walls. The light went dark before coming back in a brilliant flash, shining through the facets of the crystal pillar to reveal that the source of the light was the violet left eye of Arcyng.
