If you answered YES to both questions, your dragon is a Stogwen!
Feel free to ask about their lineage if you're unsure - not all Stogwens are currently recorded in the directory, though slowly and surely more older dragons are being discovered and added.
This is Stogwen. He isn’t particularly intelligent or impressive - in fact, by Coatl standards, he's a bit dull. However, he doesn't let that bother him at all. Born on the Windswept Plateau, his first home was the Ashfall Waste, a place where he was mocked and dismissed for his dull plumage. Stogwen, however, was oblivious. After the odd tryst or two, he ended up with a couple of children who were sent away to live in other lairs. That should have been that.

Except, it wasn’t...

6628882_350.png

Two of his eldest children Audacity and Lacaille, both from different mates and born of different elements, set out to prove that their dark plumage was not bad luck or misfortune. Though the two of them went to live in different clans, they both decided to take mates and become parents, to show that their children would be as healthy and strong as they were. Their children then had children, and though now many of these descendants are bright and colourful, many honour the dark colours of their progenitor and work hard to dismiss the Coatl prejudice that those with naturally dull or pale plumage are to be treated with disdain.

7914644_350.png After Audacity lost his sister, he reached out to try and find her children. To his surprise, his family had become quite large, and were beginning to populate many different parts of Sornieth. He also found out that his father had now moved from to the Southern Icefield, and that he had more half-siblings born of another element. Out of curiosity, Audacity began to map his family tree, and then discovered, to his initial horror, that his father had somehow stumbled across one of his own descendants and taken them to mate. Audacity attempted to reach out to his father, but on his journey he discovered that Stogwen had moved on to the Starfall Isles and had taken a new mate. Perhaps his father had realised, Audacity decided, and returned home.

He was wrong.

Stogwen had no idea.

However, it wasn't long until Audacity noticed this had happened more than once, not with Stogwen, but with other descendents of the line. He realised that many of his father's lineage had spread so far and wide across Sornieth that many of them did not know who they were or how they were related to each other. He in fact discovered that his own son, Sunfish, had taken a relative to mate. By now though, the family tree was humongous, and Audacity found that he was no longer able to keep track.

At first, Stogwen had no idea who Audacity was, but at some point he has begun to realise he has other relatives within the clan - however, the ones he's noticed are all Audacity's progeny. What a happy coincidence, Stogwen told his son, it's nice to see you have had lots of children.

But, with how prevailant and infamous the line has become, how long until Stogwen uncovers the fantastic, terrible truth?

BACKGROUND { INFOMATION }

Project Stogwen is a breeding line project descending from Stogwen the Coatl Blacksmith! He has no idea that his family tree has inadvertently gotten this big (to the point we've definitely lost track of it over the 8 years), so while he lives on in blissful ignorance, the aim of this project is to make his family tree as big and convoluted as possible until he inadvertently rules the world and perhaps every Coatl in Sornieth is somehow related to this big happy family....

The Stogwen Project was THE FIRST community breeding project that was started on Flight Rising. As since the start of the project, there are no limitations except that for a both parents of a dragon had to be Coatls, with one (or both) of them a descendant of Stogwen. The initial motivation behind this project was four friends joking about the fact that Stogwen was would be completely oblivious if he accidentally became famous - and he still doesn't know. Currently, our goal remains the same - to breed as many Stogwens as we can, trying to add all possible genes and seeing how many generations (and generation combos) we can reach. You can find the original thread (from 2015) here and the second version of the thread after I took over the project here. We are on version three as I thought a fresh start to the thread may be more appropriate after I returned to FR in 2023 following a 4 year absence. Whilst Stogwen breeding activity did not cease during this time, it certainly slowed, but now I'm back we're kicking back into full gear!

The first goal of the project was 'reacharound', designed to breed a Stogwen that was far enough removed from Stogwen that he could breed with this Stogwen and create Coatls related to Stogwen twice. We completed ‘reacharound’ back in 2016, using Muse - in which we gained our first 'Double Stogwen', Lacis:

Since then, we've got Stogwens related to our progenitor 4, 5 and 6 ways. Though the project was not active for several years due to the original creators of the lineage being absent from the site, by 2020 we had recorded over 1000 descendants of Stogwen, and that is only counting Coatls that the community added to our spreadsheet.

The next achievement was in 2022 (whilst the project was technically inactive) when we managed to achieve a dragon related to Stogwen a WHOPPING 10 TIMES!!

Meet Decio.

75847255_350.png

Decio is a Generation 6, 9, 11, 12, 13, 13, 14, 15, 16, & 18 Stogwen descendant; gen 13 is listed twice because he's gen 13 two ways!

- -

As the project was brought out of hiatus, an attempt was made to replicate Decio's status with having another dectuple Stogwen - except this keeps ...getting worse and the momentum kept going, and as of Janurary 2024 we have Stogwens related to our progenitor 15 different ways.

March 2024... these Coatls are related to Stogwen 20 ways!

April 2024, we made it to 30 different ways...

@Sonne I am always happy to poke my nose into a lineage project. I do have one Stogwen derg Haris just strikes me as the kind of guy who can choose a wine and has lots of investments and such. No idea why. Anyway, I was totally excited to hear this plan (and I admit this is despite not being crazy about coatl's) and have already taken steps to aquire a beloved for him.

Sure I'll hang on the ping list. I don't remember which of my coatls is or was a Stogwen though... I may need to get a new one.

@Sonne Sure, keep me in the ping list! I still have one Stogwen I've held on to. I'll see about finding her a mate soon.

@Zaratyst you were selling some Stogwens in the post I picked you out from, and doing some investigating it looks like their parent has been exalted since then so maybe you don't have any Stogs lol (besides your new acquisition) whoops. I guess I assumed everyone selling Stogs might want to be involved in the revived project haha.

@Newtinmpls he is a very pretty Stog

@Bluesette oh she's absolutely lovely. I feel I'd be interested if you ever do breed her.

@Sonne you over-estimated my attention span, that's all! I have been here 9 years, I can't even begin to guess how many projects I've been in! But I'm pleased to participate.

Added Cosmos as a stud (finally decided if I'm gonna keep him as he's the only Stogwen I have with lightning eyes and I was in lightning flight for a while...)

Cosmos and Hyacinth both currently have 26 days left on cool down, but Sunfish and Cislunar are sat on a nest right now that hatches tomorrow!

Not sure if I should put pairs in this thread as well as in the sales thread, but I do have 2 pairs of dragons I intend to nest regularly for Stogwen babies (Audacity w/ his mate Vespa for gen III, Sunfish and Cislunar for TRIPLE STOGS).
