I probably think
way too much about what breed/genes/flight to make my fandragons, so be prepared for some infodumping.

Yugi Moto (Yugioh)
Spent two years trying to breed this beautiful gamer boy! Namely because of eye types. I wanted him to have Shadow Uncommon eyes to represent the shade of purple he has
in the "Season Zero" continuity.
And also because I miss Tundras having white schlera. Banana Spines represents his bangs, Blood Toxin turns the mane into a deep black with purple edges, and the Blue Poison represents his school uniform (and vaguely evokes the deep black shadows that the Season Zero artstyle uses on said uniform). Tundra is definitely the best breed to represent the shape of his hair with. Also, it makes me deeply happy that the flight that gives him the most accurate eye color, that wields shadow magic like his "other self" uses... is ALSO the flight most heavily associated with card/board/dice/etc games.

Ralsei (Deltarune)
Ralsei's talksprite has more detailed shading than that of other UT/DR goat characters, which is the main reason I gave him Iridescent and not Basic. Pearl Constellation turns a dragon's mane into a lovely shade of pale pink that looks good alongside Iridescent, and the pastel purple color of Pearl Constellation wings act as a nice visual bridge between the pink mane/horns and green clothes. Rose Glimmer gives him shiny pink horns like his talksprite, and the overcoat and sweater cover up the belly so I can pretend they're not
also a shiny pink color. Ralsei is a "dark world being", but his healing magic involves "heavenly light", so Arcane flight seemed like a good middle ground. (Also, the Arcane flight is also associated with stars and dreams, which are thematically connected to
Asriel in the original Undertale. Ralsei is an anagram of Asriel.)

Lion (Steven Universe)
The unusual distribution of belly and main colors for Rose Basic on tundras is a godsend for making Lion accurate to his
respective character! Likewise, the "bleaching" effect Pink Hex has on the mane allows me to make the primary and secondary parts of the fur blend in almost perfectly, enhancing the impression of a massive leonine mane. The belly part of Lace is invisible on an XYX tundra, so I mainly gave him Rose Lace (instead of Underbelly or Basic) to add a little flourish to the edges of the wings. Lion's abilities lean into the more psychokinetic, less plant-based aspects of Rose/Steven's powers, so I went with Arcane eyes.

Clamgirl (Undertale)
Clamgirl...
is an obscure minor Undertale character. Her head is literally the pearl of a bivalve mollusc, so I gave the fandragon Saffron Glimmer to tint the pearlcatcher's pearl an appropriate shade of orange. Storm matches her sprite's body color, and Slime feels appropriate for a mollusc object-head who's found in the "Waterfall" region of the game. Cerulean Blend is used to represent both the teal rim of her shell and the green... leaf? On the top of her head. Since Camgirl's eyes are always closed, she doesn't have a canon eye color... but not only is she an aquatic creature found in a water-themed area, but her dialogue foreshadowed the release of Deltarune. So I felt like Water flight, the flight of oracles and prophecy, was the absolute best fit.

Alley Cat (Petz by PF Magic)
Alley Catz are infamous in the Petz community for being constantly sick and ridden with fleas. It's kind of ambiguous if the light-colored patches on Alleys are bald spots or discolored fur, so I used genes to represent both interpretations! Orange Fade/Blend for areas that are normal but discolored, and Peach Opal for mangled, scarred, incorrectly-healed flesh. Mirrors' big and little eyes are nicely reminiscent of the asymmetrical eyes of Alley Catz, which is one of several reason I chose
that breed instead of something more conventionally catlike.

Kaburagi (Deca-Dence)
Kaburagi is from a
criminally underrated anime that aired this summer. He has
quite a few designs, but I chose his
robot/cyborg form as the basis for the fandragon. Brown Mosaic adds asymmetrical blue patches, Umber Breakup adds teal patches that are kinda like the color of his suspenders, and Fern Capsule (and the supercharged alchemist tools) is to represent the glowing green "oxyone" fuel his little robot body runs on. The Lightning Innocent eyes both represent the blue-green color of his entire screen-face and the big shiny appearance of the eyes
on said screen. (Also, literally every cyborg character in Deca-Dence is an employee of a corporation, so there's
another one for the "fits with FR flight lore suprisingly well" books.)
