SHOGGOTHS

Shoggoths were genetically engineered by the Elder Things when they arrived at Sornieth (long before the First Age). Shoggoths were bred to be durable, adaptable, and easily hypnotized - a docile slave race, optimized to perform intense physical labor. Eventually, the shoggoths mutated independently of their master's influence and gained sentience. Many revolutions were brutally suppressed before the shoggoths were able to gain their independence.

Shoggoths are roughly 15 feet in diameter, although they can mold their form at will. Their rubbery skin secretes a slimy residue. They reproduce through fission.

Originally deep sea dwellers, they are now amphibious in nature. Even though shoggoths could easily become the apex predator of any environment, they prefer to hide away in habitats deemed inhospitable to most other species. Currently, a population is known to dwell deep in the Southern Icefield, where they prey on aquatic birds.

STARRY WISDOM

Dragonkind is quick to persecute anyone worshiping deities other than Sornieth's eleven, so most assume that "forbidden" worship must be limited to ancient times, beastclans, or insane loners. Evidence is immediately destroyed, and most stories are smothered before gossip can escape.

However, cases such as the Starry Wisdom cult reveal that entire congregations secretly worship the Great Old Ones. At its peak, at least 200 dragons abandoned the Tidelord and instead called to Nyarlathotep for visions of the future. Their main ritual object was the Shining Trapezohedron, a multifaceted gemstone of alien origin which they used to summon an avatar for Nyarlathotep out of the Shade.

Even though they preformed ritual sacrifices, Starry Wisdom was able to operate in secret for 33 years before their clanmates discovered them and drove them out. Other heretical congregations have survived for even longer by hiding in remote areas or by allowing only relatives to join.

Locals know to quickly seek shelter from storms - not out of fear of the unpredictable elemental clashes, but of the creatures that hunt during the downpour.

These creatures are primarily subterranean. Research suggests they travel through a network of tunnels branching out from a central hive. While it remains unclear what causes them to surface during extreme weather events, it is well documented that they emerge in large packs to feast on any unsuspecting souls caught in the deluge.

Current attempts at study or eradication are hindered by paranoia. Rumors assert that the "creatures" are truly draconic in nature. They site the creatures' dissimilar eyes (one blue, one brown) to claim they are the biproduct of an unnatural pact between Earth and Lighting flights. More evidence is needed.

HASTUR

Hastur, or the "King in Yellow," is an Outer God that resides near the star Aldebaran. Not much is understood of him, at least to dragonkind, as even secondary sources seem to quickly incite madness. As such, this entry is heavily redacted, and its purpose is solely to identify and avoid Hastur's cult.

His most recognizable avatar is ironically referred to as the "The High Priest Not to Be Described." A few facts are generally accepted: the High Priest wears flowing yellow robes with red accents, along with a silken mask and gloves. Its outfit thoroughly disguises the outline of its body, but it generally appears to be short, stocky, and lumpish - perhaps a moon-beast in origin. Its most recent sighting was in a labyrinthine stone monastery in Leng (a cold wasteland near Kadath).

Hastur seems to have an affinity towards the arts. He is associated with flutes, similar to Azathoth (another Outer God whose name should not be spoken). His High Priest has also been seen collaborating with Nyarlathotep.

YITHIANS

Far before the deities of Sornieth were formed, an extinction-level event on Yith caused its dominant species to flee to other galaxies. Unable to survive space travel, Yithians invented devices that would allow them to swap minds with more durable hosts. The "Great Race" abused this power to gain immortality; every time their current body began to die, they would commandeer a new body. This forced swap resulted in the mass extinction of other species.

At some point, Yithians gained the technology to send themselves forward and backward in time to bring back knowledge. While less destructive than genocide, this practice was still traumatizing and non-consensual. Minds borrowed by the Yith are often haunted with memories of being displaced.

Although Yithians were eventually hunted to extinction by a rival race, they can still be encountered due to their time travel tendencies. Clanmates suffering from out-of-body experiences after a long bout of amnesia should be directed to councelling.

YOG-SOTHOTH

Yog-Sothoth is one of the Outer Gods. He lives outside of space and time, making him virtually omniscient. He is known, on very rare occasions, to share some of his knowledge with brave and curious dreamers. However, dragons should be careful what they wish to know; the unlimited access can lead to very dark discoveries, and the sensation of limitlessness can drive them insane. Dragons should also be very wary if they hear Yog-Sothoth's name mentioned during an incantation; these spells are very dark and powerful.

Yog-Sothoth lives on a plane with more than the three dimensions known to the dragons of Sornieth. Because of this, his polyhedron shaped form is hard for dragon minds to understand, and he is usually described as a group of glowing spheres. On other occasions, he will remain invisible, with his voice echoing inside the dragon's head.

Zoogs are intelligent creatures with a strong social hierarchy. Young zoogs engage in play, and even adults may discretely stalk anything that peeks their curiosity. As such, they have a vast knowledge of Dreamland, and sometimes make brief forays into the Shadow flight's territory. They would make a wise ally for any Dreamer, but their skittish nature makes them hard to befriend. They also have a longstanding enmity with cats, the typical Dreamer's companion. That aside, they may teach their "fluttery" sounding language to any dragon that is patient enough to earn their trust.

However, evidence suggests that many beings and races inhabited Sornieth before the official pantheon came into existence. On the most recent expedition to study the Shoggoths, researchers uncovered carvings that speak of yet another race active before the rise of the 11 current deities. The Star-Spawn dominated the ensuing war, eventually gaining complete control over the land. STAR-SPAWN

Sornieth's accepted history starts with the advent of the "First Four" of the "First Age." However, evidence suggests that many beings and races inhabited Sornieth before the official pantheon came into existence. On the most recent expedition to study the Shoggoths, researchers uncovered carvings that speak of yet another race active before the rise of the 11 current deities.

Dubbed "Star-Spawn" by the carvings, this new race travelled the universe with Cthulhu until they became stranded on Sornieth. Trapped until the stars would aligned more favorably, they were forced into a conflict with the existing colonies of Elder Things. The Star-Spawn dominated the ensuing war, eventually gaining complete control over the land.

Unbeatable in combat, their downfall came when a sudden flood (likely caused by the birth of the Tidelord) caused the main continent to sink, forcing them to take refuge in their city of R’lyeh. There, they hibernate until Rhan-Teggoth heralds their return to the stars.
